Sorry to hear this. Keep your chin up Jake, the future is very bright.
[Reply]
What an unfortunate shame. I don’t get it, all of the forwards stay up and he goes down?
I am with Belexes though, “the future is very bright.”
Hell, trade him to the ‘Hawks, my other favorite team!

@Doc. Mark 1968, It’s good news. They don’t want Drew to wait until Thursday. And once DD8 comes back, they won’t need Muzzin.
[Reply]
I think this is a stupid move IMO. I have not liked any of Whiskey’s games this season other than the 4-1 win over Vancouver. Muzzin looked to be gaining experience and confidence and was playing rather well especially for a rookie. I hope to see him back up with the big boys this year without having to have it be a recall for an injured D-Man.

@number1fan, Drewiske ≈ Muzzin. Muzzin’s not that much better. Would you rather waive Drewiske or send Muzzin to Manchester?
[Reply]
Sad to see him go, but must mean Doughty isn’t bad.

@Kwvin, @Kozak, exactly!
No reason to send a player down and not put Drew on IR if they’re not optimistic he won’t be back sooner than Thursday.
[Reply]
Drew not on injured reserve? I take it he will be back sooner rather than later.
That is GREAT news

@kozak, I think it’s possible from that he may be back anytime from Monday onward? Safe assumption but can’t be too sure.

Maybe doughty will be back quicker than we thought…

This is definetly good news in terms of DD’s return.

Great, we get to see the midget Harrold play defence…Muzzin>Harrold any day of the week!

@puck73,
Yeah, as much as I hate to say it, we have a lot more to worry about with what’s up with JJ than any other player on the ice. We should not have to worry about him, but JJ is definitely NOT playing like he should. We need JJ to be playing like his post-Olympic self, especially right now with Dewey out.
Cmon Jack, get your game together, get that edge back, please!

@Kingsfanone, My patience with Jack is wearing very thin. He’s been given a huge chance to be the man with Doughty out, and excuse the expression, but he totally **** the bed against the Coyotes.
Isn’t Drewiske on his new contract now? And would have to pass through waivers to go down?
If so, then easy move for Dean & Terry?
Hopefully this will just make Jake that much more hungrier & better.
Looked very solid when he was up though.

@Freezang,
Not the easy move. You cut/waive Harrold. Murray is loyal to a fault. Harrold sucks and isn’t better than Muzzin nor does Harrold have the potential that Muzzin does either. Who cares that he can play both forward and D? When you have forwards like Loki, Lewis, Clifford that are in and out of the lineup there isn’t a need for a Harrold. Pathetic.
The team is improving and the Gary Shuchuks must go.
[Reply]
Muzzin is the only defenseman we could send down without having to clear waivers (I believe, not sure). IMHO it obviously had nothing to do with his play. I’d say Muzzin played better than Harold, DD2 and JJ for that matter, but its a numbers game and a waivers game.

@KC23,
Yes I think you are right; I just read Rich’s reply on the other post. Not having to be on waivers is the only circumstance that makes sense of the situation.
It does not mean that I like it though.
I said during the summer that, at the conclusion of this particular road trip, we will really be able to make some sound judgements about this team. I am very interested to see how the next few games play out but this move is certainly not a positive.

@KC23,
The only players on the Kings who are waiver-exempt are Schenn, Clifford, Loktionov and Bernier. (and Muzzin)
Drewiske was, until his 60th game, which was opening night. Westgarth and Lewis (and Clune) were until this season, now not.
[Reply]
No one should be surprised since Muzzin is the only one waiver exempt. I’m sure the Kings aren’t ready to send Schenn or Clifford back to juniors to keep 8 defensemen on the roster.
[Reply]
Monarchs just got an awesome upgrade to their defense. They will be tuff to beat.
[Reply]
Muzzin has done a strong job, but this was the necessary move, if Doughty’s return is actually imminent.
Muzzin is of course the one who can most easily go to Manchester. Drewiske would have to go thru waivers — some other GM would certainly claim him. He is better IMO than the 5th or 6th d-men on many NHL teams and his age is just about ideal to make a good waiver pickup.
Drewiske has been playing generally well, playing smart despite a couple of errors, I have no problem with him in the lineup right now.
[Reply]
I think it’s fairly obvious that our entire d-corps has been playing well all season, with the exception of JJ, who has gone back to his old ways in the past couple of games. I believe he and Scuds had a lot of issues with the PHX forwards which led to that quick lead for them. Hopefully JJ smartens up, picks his opportunities better, and gets back to the form he was in the first couple of games.
Drewiske has not been a liability, and Harrold is generally dependable, if prone to getting burned one on one and less effective on the pin and seal. With the return of Greene and his toughness we should be a little better off vs. COL. This is a game we should expect to win, so let’s see 2 points tonight.
[Reply]
It’s how the Kings got Quincey from the Wings. The Kings are just lucky Muzzin isn’t eligible for waivers, otherwise I’m betting another team would’ve snagged him.

@unhinged,
Agreed. Being able to send Muzz down gives DL a viable option to not lose a player to waivers. The club is also not too badly affected keeping DD2 up as he’s playing pretty decent and not hurting us too badly.
DL doesn’t want to lose a player that esay without getting an asset in return. Sending Muzz down is also not gonna be spinning his wheels, as he can use the playing time to hone his skills more.
[Reply]
DD with minor injury > muzzin being sent down for us kings fans. It’s just the beginning of the AHL inevitable. Cliffie, lotki, schenners. Someone will be going in 3 games anyway.
[Reply]
YEA on Doughty being back soon!!!
BOOOOOO on Jake Muzzin going down before DD2!
Rich, can we get their reasoning on this? Thanks!

@roadtripper
It’s been stated already, there isn’t really much need to have the Kings say it. DD2 has been playing well and would have to clear waivers, which almost certainly would not happen. Muzzin has been surprisingly good for a guy six months out of juniors, but he’s waiver exempt and could benefit from playing big minutes in Manchester.
Easy choice.
[Reply]
I knew I shouldn’t have sent my game-worn Muzzin Monarchs jersey to the cleaners this morning
Oh well… Not surprised at this point in time, but this kid has an NHL future. He did not look out of place in the least. When the Kings are ready to trade a defenseman for a top 6 forward, Muzzin will step in very nicely when the time is right.
[Reply]
Too bad for muzzin, Hell be fine. On the other hand, Doughty’s return seems eminent , which is VERY good news. I was worried, but now we will have our full defense, which seems like drewiskie got that last spot. Our defense will be very strong once Doughtys back..I hope drew plays against Chicago.!! Go kings!
And line 1 , line 2? Look great! Go kings!
[Reply]
he’ll be back….
[Reply]
He can also be recalled at any time. It’s not like he has to drive back.
[Reply]
I wouldn’t assume Doughty’s return is imminent either.
[Reply]
I think Muzzin has been ok, but not great. His psyche will survive being sent back down.
[Reply]
Muzzin has looked as good as, if maybe not better, than Drewiske, and he’s a puck-mover to fit in with Greene’s stay-at-home style, so I am a little surprised.
I don’t know if Drewiske would have needed to clear waivers though perhaps? If so, moving Muzzin is certainly the right thing to do.
Muzzin will be fine with getting sent down, of that I have no doubt
He knows the deal.
