The game took a significant turn when Wayne Simmonds got a five-minute major penalty for “butt ending” on TJ Galiardi. The Kings killed off nearly the first three minutes, but after a scramble in front of the Kings’ net, Hejduk scored on a wrist-shot from close range for his second goal of the game to make it 4-4 with 8:27 remaining.
effing Simmonds…
But thank god for Richardson.

@Jay,
i like simmer but that was a butt-end.
anybody who has every held a hockey stick knows simmers’ motion with his hands caught him and the intent was there.
simmer is not a dirty player and thats not his m.o
but its not a crime if you don’t get caught. simmer got caught.
regardless i hope the suspension is not long
go kings go.

I hope Simmonds gets suspended by the league for that gutless act. I might be a Kings fan, but I played the game for years and that was selfish and spineless.

@puck73,
i don’t think that was his intent. Simmonds even called for the Avalanche trainer when he saw Galiardi hurt.

@puck73, Really, did you even look at the replay. It didn’t look like any type of intent, and it most certainly didn’t look like any type of intent, although I’m not in Wayne Simmonds mind, but then again, neither are you. Doesn’t seem like his MO over past few years however…

@Lexigirl,
of-course the intent was there.
simmonds intended to take the butt end of his stick and jam it into galiardi’s ribs.
so, if thats not intent then what is?

@puck73,
On the replay, it looked like Galiardi grabbed his stick or his arm. He may have just been trying to get him to back off or Galiardi may have skated into his stick as they came together (as another player was also pushing past Simmonds on the other side).

@Danielle, This, although from where I was sitting up in the nosebleed section at the Pepsi Center, it was hard to tell…not to mention the wonderful fans throwing trash at me (like I did it).
I’ve played for years. I’ve had this happen to me, and I’ve done it myself. It happens.
What I saw (granted, it was far away from where I was sitting, and the replay they showed in the arena barely showed anything), Galliardi was grabbing him, trying to slow him down, and on the “swing” with him arms, Simmonds nailed him.
I have no clue if the intent was there, but my guess, it was. Simmonds is a good hockey player, but, he is no angel.

That didn’t look like a penalty to me. Was there another view because it looked the simmonds was pushing off with his free hand (not even on his stick). Almost like Giraldi popped his shoulder out.

@54FIGHTING, nah dude it’s like Foxie said, a lot of players use the butt of their sticks to push tmeselves off of other players. Puck was just dumped in Galiadi stepped in front Simmer went to do that, and after another look seriously misjudged it and butted him right in the manhood.

@Jay,
Was watching the Avs feed and thier color guy even said it looks like his hand wasn’t even on the stick AND then after the penalty is called he says, ‘yeah he took a full swing’ – nice.

@54FIGHTING, If you watch the Right hand of Simmer it does go inward toward Galiardi. His left hand comes off but his right hand goes toward him. Looks like just stride or maybe he WAS trying. I mean as a ref i totally sympathize…if it was intentional or not it happened, and you gotta make a call.
I didn’t see anything penalty worthy, much less 5 minutes worth.
the stick was there but there was definitely no swinging motion.
Although the Avs player could have been called for interference for cutting in front of Simmonds like that.

@Dan H., Yah, and the Avs player did it on purpose to delay the game. Please, just stop it already..And Cole and Doans hits were accidental…PLLLEASE !

@Dan H., Dan…there is no swing with a butt end. All you do is slightly release your grip from your top hand, and jab with your lower hand, that’s it.
When the players are that tight together, it’s nearly impossible to see.
In a normal game, it happens anywhere from 10-20 times. I do it probably 2 or 3 times a game to keep someone from holding me. I have it done to me probably 2 or 3 times per game for the same reason.
I just don’t hit anyone in the nards, and haven’t had that done to me…you get jabbed in the gut. Just enought to get you to back off for a 1/2 a second.
