Ersberg cleared waivers

Erik Ersberg has cleared waivers and the Kings are in the process of terminating his contract, which will allow him to join a KHL team. The Kings were able to terminate the contract because Ersberg left the team (Manchester) without permission.

I hope he has a long career in the KHL, makes lots of money, has ten kids, and they all become starters in the NHL.

EE you will be missed! From day 1 we knew you had the potential to be the #1 goaltender for L.A. but unfortunately it was not your calling for this team. Good Luck & we hope we never have to play against you ;-)

EE you will be missed! From day 1 we all know you could have been the #1 goaltender for L.A., with all due respect for JQ, but unfortunately, for whatever reason it was not meant for you to win in L.A.. We know you’ll do well wherever you end up, we just hope we never have to play against you in the future ;-)

I think it is apparrent that Eric Ersberg definately rubbed everybody the right way around here. EE..where ever you go, the best of luck to you. Thanx for the incredibly high work ethic and team player mentality you showed while you were here. IMO, I am a TM fan for the most part, but I really didnt care for the way he disrespected and utilized EE last season and consequently burned out our #1 goalie going into the playoffs. Best Wishes EE !

Best of luck EE! Thank you for your service and professionalism.

Rich, in case he doesn’t read this directly, I hope you can pass on all of these kind words to EE for us.

i second SD’s request of passing this on to ersberg. he should know that even though terry murray didn’t support him much, the fans did. he got shafted last year and it not only hurt his market value but hurt the entire team down the stretch and into the playoffs. hope you get back in the NHL soon and (as much as it hurts to say this, but) get a shutout in your first game against LA. After the final buzzer, skate by TM and give him a friendly wink.

Gotta be hard for EE but that’s the life of a professional hockey player. Everyone wants to play in the NHL but very few do. Take it as a pro and go back to Manchester and work hard. Don’t be a quitter you fool. If JB took your approach a couple of years ago then he wouldn’t be were he is today

Rich, you know much more than you reporting. Nobody leaves “without permission” and particularly guy like Ersberg. He had talks with Kings about letting him to play in Europe – you reported it. What has happened? It does not make sense what you are saying. I know you repeat official line. Is this all you do?

    [Reply]

    Rich Hammond Reply:

I’m not sure what you don’t understand. Ersberg was under contract. He decided to leave and play in Europe. He left the team. The Kings terminated his contract because of it. They could have “loaned” him to Europe, as they did with Fransson, but chose not to, in order to get his contract off the books. Leaving an NHL team to go play in Europe isn’t like getting permission from your parents to go play in the park. There are contracts involved. I’m not sure what is complicated about this. I have already reported all of this in plain English. Thanks for the insult, though.

    Alberto Reply:

@Rich Hammond, I do not buy that. If he wanted to terminate contract he could have done with mutual agreement with Kings. Why to leave without permission and have stain on his reputation? It does not make sense. Bunch of guys play in Europe on load – this is standard procedure. He may want to return to NHL.

I’m sorry I can’t help you further. I’m not even really understanding the point you’re trying to make. I did my best to explain the situation. It’s mutually beneficial. The Kings get a contract off the books and Ersberg is free to pursue any options he chooses. If you don’t “buy it,” that’s your prerogative.

I’m not sure I get why some are wishing EE all the best. Sounds to me like he went AWOL even though he was under contract because he wants to play in the KHL.
I also thought the NHL and KHL just made a hand shake agreement that the KHL would NOT sign players that were under contract?

    [Reply]

    fsd1 Reply:

@Eddie G., we let him go awol so he could be released from his contract, it was mutual

  21. Eddie G says:

@fsd1, When I read “without permission” that doesn’t sound “mutual”. Sounds like since he wasn’t going to report, the Kings terminated his contract. I find it hard to believe that if Quick or Bernier went down for the year the Kings wouldn’t want to have Ersberg ready to fill the #2 spot.
