Murray postgame quotes

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts…

(on the win and improving to 4-1…)
MURRAY: “Four and one is good, I think we made it a lot harder than what it should have been tonight, with our play with the puck, but the bottom line is we got some big plays at the end of the game with some special teams and penalty killing. Bernier was real sharp and found a way to get it done. … Sometimes you have to win ugly, absolutely. They gave us everything. They are a team that found their legs after the European trip. They played very well last night and had their legs going again tonight. So any time you get down by a goal, against another conference, there’s no safe play. You just go. Your defensemen are up on the attack and they’re pinching every play. They made it interesting for us.”

(on the penalty killing…)
MURRAY: “Penalty killing, we saw at its best at the end of the game with two big penalty kills. It’s been good, right from the very start, and that’s what you have to have if you want to win one-goal games in this league. You have to have your penalty killing going at the right time, and your goaltender has to make the timely saves and Bernier was good here at the end.”

(on the power play…)
MURRAY: “We would like to get that going. We’re giving it a lot of attention. The players are dialed in and there’s a lot of focus and a lot of work, a lot of time at practice put into it, and it will start to click for us.”

(on defensemen stepping up in Doughty’s absence…)
MURRAY: “Defensemen like that. If somebody goes off with a skate problem or an injury happens, you get down to five [defensemen]. Tonight the guys stepped up.  There was good play, Muzzin played well, Drewiske, I thought was very good tonight, he carried the puck and was strong defensively and very involved. I can say the same with Scuds [Rob Scuderi], Mitchell, and Jack.  Everybody dug in a little bit more and they thrive on that extra minute.”
