After the game, Terry Murray said Drew Doughty would not accompany the Kings to Phoenix, but left open the possibility that Doughty would join the team later in the trip. Murray did not elaborate on Doughty’s upper-body injury, other than to say that it took place during the first-period collision with Erik Cole. Doughty was not available for comment after the game.
wat the hell is going on?

I’m guessing it’s not too bad then if TM says he might be back during the road trip. *fingers, toes an eyes crossed*

That was a bull Sh…. Late shoulder to shoulder blind side hit WAY after DD was anywhere near the puck. That is a two day suspension, automatically. Complete crap.

@fourtunato, Maybe we better ask Hazy for his valued opinion.

I feel okay. Terrible that he is out. But We played 2 periods of SOLID defensive hockey without him. The only goal given up after the first was the softie which need not be named.
Whiskey has played two VERY solid games, and Muzzin is looking more and more like an NHL stay. I think it’s okay if Doughty is out for a game or 2. Plus Phoenix is really hurtin in the goal department AND they will be without Martin Hanzal and Shane Doan tomorrow night.

@Jay, JJ didn’t play a lick of solid defense tonight.

@KC23,
That’s true but he is 1 of 5 defenders on the ice through 2. The other 4 guys locked it down.
Hope he’s ok, my prayers are with DD.

So so news. Doesn’t sound like anything major, but it’s so hard to tell with TM when it comes to these injuries.

Best wishes, Drew.

I sure hope Johnson steps up during Doughty’s absence. He was sub-par in a major way tonight.

This is a good opportunity for the team to show just how good they are. DD will be missed but we have a great defensive team that should be able to step up when a challenge like this comes along.
Along those lines, “THE SKY IS NOT FALLING”.

Rich,
What is the timeline on Greene’s return? Obviously we need another blueliner immediately. Is Harrold to be brought up? Thanks

I just hope DD is good.
Get better Drew!

Muzzin and DD2 have been absolutely solid and Greener is almost back. Sky is not falling but still hopefully this isn’t serious.

My guess is a separated shoulder, 3-4 weeks.
[Reply]
What time in the first? I didn’t notice the hit. They did not catch it on the telecast..
[Reply]
The hit by Cole on Doughty is with 1:03 left in the first… He stays on & goes to the bench with 0:36 left in the first looking a bit woozy… My guess is possible concussion? I think he got his bell rung…

@Kings win, Ducks lose, I was at the game and I swear Cole hit Doughnut in the head and I would only believe either a concussion or a shoulder injury. After the hit, he looked very shakey on his feet and looked off for the time he was on the ice. Cole should receive an automatice suspension if the league wants to hold onto their “No Blind Side Hits.”

@Hockey G, Here are a couple of Scuderi quotes I found on twitter that lead me to believe it is head injury:
#LAKings defenseman Rob Scuderi said this about Doughty: “When you’ve been around a little bit you can tell if a guy’s got his bell rung …
More Scuderi on Doughty: “It didn’t look too bad. He was walking around, he was talking OK – certainly a positive.” #LAKings

1:03 left in the first period… looked a little late by Cole…
[Reply]
It does look like Doughty took one on the chin. Cole is an ass.

Sadly to admit, ruined my night! ahah
Anyways, Lokti looked tremendous tonight, he made SOOO many good plays, good little passes, good transitions, and set up some BEAUTIFULL scoring chances. Im glad kopi got on the bored, and JJ had a good preseason, but is kind of scaring me at times at the start here.. And obviously, doughty’s injury is bad news.

@Michael_DD8, Not really. Other than the goal, he looked like an AHLer all night. Worse, he was cherry-picking and didn’t get involved defensively.
[Reply]
If it is a head injury (Bell rung, Mild Concussion, or more serious concussion) Let’s just hope he is symptom free in the morning… I would guess it’s all based on how he’s feeling… Pray for no headaches!
[Reply]
Ok Doughty is out, Greene is in. So what will the Dmen look like tomorrow?? Michell-Greene? My opinion has changed with Drewiske. He has been playing responsible the past two games.

@pat, I’m thinking they’ll put DD2 with mitchel and Greene will come back a game earlier than planned and play with Muzzin.
[Reply]
Had to work late so I was watching a recorded feed from Carolina and they isolated the play. My first impression is that Cole turned into Doughty and did dip his shoulder into him with what seemed to be not alot of force but caught Drew off guard and left shoulder was affected. Didn’t look major but I’m no expert. All I can say is it doesn’t look too bad and I pray it’s not.
[Reply]
Well now after watching the same isolation of that play , I concur with others that he took the brunt of the hit off his sternum and his head did jerk back and a mild concussion might be the cause of his injury.
[Reply]
So why did the Carolina broadcast review the play but nothing from Bob and Jim?

@54FIGHTING,
Most likely because they don’t want to advertise to other teams how he was hurt in LA. It’s silly but probable. Both games were broadcast by Fox Sports, same camera crews but different producers.
