Muzzin fitting in

It appears as though the Kings might have quite a decision on their hands when Matt Greene returns to the lineup, presumably within the next couple weeks. Rookie defenseman Jake Muzzin earned a spot on the roster out of training camp because of Greene’s inability to play, but Muzzin has looked comfortable and poised in his play so far. On Friday, Muzzin played a season-high 15:21 — up from 10:59 in the previous game — and recorded his first NHL point on an assist on Justin Williams’ second-period goal. Muzzin’s partner, Davis Drewiske, also had a solid game Friday, with an assist and a team-high four blocked shots. As for Muzzin, he seems to be earning the trust of Terry Murray.

MURRAY: “He’s only six months out of junior. He’s playing really well. We’re showing a lot of confidence in him. We had a good look at him in the American Hockey League playoffs, and he showed the same kind of composure, coming out of junior, playing the next day basically, and playing in those playoffs. He settled right in. He didn’t show a lot of nervous play. He was making good decisions and he’s kind of doing the same thing here right now. This kid is getting rewarded. He put a lot of time in in the summertime, doing the right stuff here and working out. He’s physically ready to play. He’s strong enough and he’s got a good head on his shoulders for the game. He’s getting a nice taste of the game right now.”
