Manchester update

The Kings won’t be on the ice in El Segundo until 12:30 p.m. today, so here’s an update on the Monarchs…

After a season-opening loss Saturday, Manchester beat Bridgeport 2-1 on Sunday. Justin Azevedo’s goal, 9:19 into the third period, broke the tie, and Erik Ersberg stopped 27 of 28 shots for the win. Dwight King had tied the game for the Monarchs in the second period. Assists in the game went to Oscar Moller, John Zeiler, Bud Holloway and Brandon Kozun.

“The win over Bridgeport is a step in the right direction,” said Monarchs coach Mark Morris. “Erik Ersberg gave us a superb effort and we got greasy goals from hard work around the Sound Tigers’ net. Both goalies played well but our last goal held up. Our compete level as a group was much better than last night. We still have lots of work to do to be more consistent. It’s important our guys understand how to stick together and play as a cohesive unit.”
