As you probably already know, the Kings will take the ice Saturday wearing special purple-and-gold vintage jerseys to help commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Vancouver Canucks joining the NHL. The Canucks played their first-ever game against the Kings on Oct. 9, 1970, a 3-1 Kings win in which they got two goals from Bob Berry, one from Ross Lonsberry and 24 saves from Denis Dejordy.
The Kings will also wear the vintage uniforms during three home games this season, with those dates yet to be announced. To get a look at the uniforms, click below. Jarret Stoll and Ryan Smyth show them off, and there are also a few shots of players practicing with the helmets, gloves and pads that they will wear Saturday.
The purple and gold are way better than the black uniforms. I wish they would wear these full time.

Those should be their alternate jerseys, not the trendy-lame silver and black 90s one they overused last year.
Those can be thrown away imo.

Yeah!! The original Forum unis were cool; they should have never changed them. The only mistake they made was wearing yellow pants with the yellow sweater. They should have had the purple pants with the yellow sweater.
There is a reason why the ‘Hawks, ‘Leafs, ‘Wings etc. sweaters are so cool. Its because multiple generations of fans have grown up with them. Its one thing to try to create a retro look; it’s quite another to have a classic logo that has never been tampered with.
I looked to see what the Whale might be wearing but there is nothing on their web-site. I guess they will go with the big V around their shoulders. But if the Kings are wearing old purples, they must be wearing their old yellows…
It will be a true 67 flash-back, if you know what I mean!!

@jayhay, I actually really like these jerseys a lot more than the gold ones, or the later mid-eighties ones with the stripes down the sleeves, hated those. Of course my first time seeing the Kings they were sporting them. Saw them when I was a kid, my Grandpa and my Dad took my brothers and cousins and I to a game against the Leafs at the Sports Arena. Also went to the very first game at the Forum against the Flyers. Back then, as they do now, they would wear dark jerseys at home and light on the road. I think that changed in the late seventies and stayed that way until recently.

@Scott,
My first game was, according to my dad, in the Finals versus MTL. I grew up in the black-and-silver era, but I remember, as a young boy, scanning through all the old media guides. You know, with the red Forum on the cover and seeing old photos of these old purple/gold jerseys.
Even though they had ditched them by the time I was born, let alone got into the LA Kings, and the fact that purple and gold were indisputably Lakers colors, the old jerseys from the early-70s were the ones that I identified the most as “Kings uniforms”.
Although, yeah, I never liked the crown. Like everybody else, I’ve messed around with the colors on NHL 10-11 Create-a-Team, and the current logo, while I think it’s a very sharp logo, it just doesn’t look right with gold.
