Greene interview

After he finished his session in the kids press conference at Hockey Fest, Matt Greene came in to talk to the media about his recovery from the surgery he had on his left shoulder in July. Greene is expected to miss the first month of the season… Question: How is the recovery process going? GREENE: [...]

Numbers game

The answer to the summer’s biggest question has arrived. Willie Mitchell will wear No. 33 for the Kings this season. Kevin Westgarth, who had worn that number during his brief stint with the Kings (and in Manchester) will switch to No. 19.

Panel recap

I watched the first hour of the “State of the Kings” panel with Dean Lombardi, Ron Hextall and Jeff Solomon before I headed over to the rookie practice. Here are some of the highlights from the panel. All questions were asked by fans, either those in attendance or those who submitted questions via Facebook. Many [...]

Ace and Mark

Nine years ago this morning, Kings director of pro scouting Ace Bailey and amateur scout Mark Bavis died when their hijacked plane crashed into the World Trade Center in New York. Today, there will be a connection with Bailey and Bavis in New York, as a horse named “Aces Mark” will run in the eighth [...]

Bob Miller update

The Kings have said, through Bob Miller’s wife, Judy, that all went well with Bob’s surgery today. I’ll be sure that Bob is made aware of all your well wishes…

Schenn (real) update

An MRI on Brayden Schenn’s knee revealed no structural damage, and he is considered day-to-day. Schenn will be re-evaluated daily and will continue to train while he does rehab work.

Rookie roster/packet

For those heading out to any of the rookie camp this weekend — or for those who simply want to read more about the prospects — I’m including a link to the packet of roster and bios provided by the Kings. A reminder that tomorrow’s practices are only open for those who purchased Hockey Fest [...]

Schenn (not really) update

There’s not expected to be any definitive news on Brayden Schenn’s knee injury today either. For the record, Schenn is still expected to undergo an MRI, but it appears as though Monday will be the day when we actually learn something. His agent, Jay Grossman…sorry, I was having bad flashbacks… Anyway, even if Schenn’s injury [...]

Camp preview: goalies

Here’s the third installment of the training-camp preview, looking at the Kings’ goalies… GOALIES Jonathan Quick set franchise records for wins and games, and was considered one of the most valuable players on a team that finished sixth in the Western Conference, yet there are as many questions now about the Kings’ goaltending as there [...]

Best wishes to Bob

Best wishes to Bob Miller, who is scheduled to undergo a non-emergency surgical procedure tomorrow, with the hope that he will be back and ready for the Kings’ season opener on Oct. 9. Incidentally, the home opener (Oct. 12) will be Bob’s 72nd birthday. It’s been said many times, but it can’t be said enough. [...]

Schenn (sort of) update

Brayden Schenn did not have an MRI on his knee today, and is now scheduled to be evaluated by the medical staff tomorrow, so we won’t have an update for another 24 hours or so.

Hockey Fest streaming

Those who aren’t able to attend Saturday’s Hockey Fest in El Segundo will still get a chance to check out some of the activities. The Kings announced today that they will stream, through Kings Vision — on LAKings.com — five of the events: the “State of the Kings” Q&A with Dean Lombardi, Terry Murray and [...]

Camp preview: defensemen

Following yesterday’s training-camp preview look at the Kings’ forwards, here’s a breakdown of where things stand with the defense… —– DEFENSE If the Kings could fast-forward through the first month of the season, they would probably be thrilled with their defense, which is shaping up to be the best unit of the Dean Lombardi era. [...]

Any questions?

As you probably know, two of the big events at Saturday’s Hockey Fest will be question-and-answer sessions with Kings management and alumni. Dean Lombardi, Ron Hextall, Jeff Solomon and Terry Murray will be doing a Q&A in the morning, and at the “Life of a King” panel, Jay Wells, Marty McSorley and Luc Robitaille (on [...]

Schenn injury

According to the Kings, prospect Brayden Schenn suffered a knee injury during a training session in Canada. Schenn is headed to Los Angeles for an MRI tomorrow, and at the moment there is no timetable for his return to the ice. Schenn recently completed training camp with his junior team, the Brandon Wheat Kings, but [...]

Camp preview: forwards

OK, let’s get this going. Of course, training camp doesn’t start for another 10 days, but the rookie camp starts in three days, and from that point on, I’m sure we’ll be deep into discussions about the Kings and who has the potential to make the team, etc. So I thought I’d take the next [...]

`Kings 1, Canucks 0′

Per reader request, here’s a cool video of Willie Mitchell up in Vancouver, participating in a charity fishing tournament that he helped start as a member of the Canucks. Mitchell won the event with a 47-pound catch, and got in a little pro-Kings dig at the end of the video. Click here for a link [...]

Voices and words

A couple interviews from the Kings’ universe today. First is a Q&A with Anze Kopitar, talking about his summer and his thoughts on the upcoming season. Then there’s Jim Fox today, on XM Home Ice, talking Kings. Finally, a podcast with former Kings defenseman Jay Wells, who will be appearing at Hockey Fest next week. [...]
