Tuesday morning practice

The Kings had their first training-camp scrimmage this morning and the “white” team, with Jonathan Quick and Martin Jones in goal, got a 3-0 victory over the “black” team, with Jonathan Bernier and Jeff Zatkoff in goal. Brayden Schenn on a rebound from close range on the first goal. Anze Kopitar beat Zatkoff on a penalty shot with a nice backhand, five hold. Oscar Moller scored on a top-shelf backhand that probably would have gone to a video review in the regular season…

Seeing a scrimmage brought to light the emphasis Terry Murray has put on improving offense this season. It’s only one early-camp scrimmage, of course, but already I saw a lot more of players carrying to puck over the blue line and heading for the net, rather than some of the dump/chip/chase stuff we might have seen in the past. Andrei Loktionov made a couple nice defensive plays and, nor surprisingly, Rich Clune was a disruptive force.

The scrimmage players are going through a conditioning skate now, and a third group of players will skate this afternoon before the travel roster leaves for Denver late this afternoon.

Am I the only one that looked at that page and only got out of it: Wow, that font is different.

Now I have to back and re-read it.

love that multi-font illusion. And, is a “five hold” goal something that involves crotch grabbing?

Went to camp today to watch the game. Looks like things are progressing well for this early in camp. After the game I walked over to the Olympic ice and wound up talking with DL for about 10 minutes. First and foremost, I thanked him for standing up to all the negativity of the FIX IT NOW fans and taking his time to rebuild the right way instead of the old band-aid method. As we stood there talking about the new kids and a certain younger veteran Dman who he thought really needed to step up his game this year I couldn’t help but get the feeling that he was watching over them like a proud father would. Its great to see DL right there watching the kids with the rest of the fans, standing at the glass willing to talk hockey with the anonymous fan. It reminds me why I love hockey and why it the greatest sport we have. Down to earth people from top to bottom….. And then there’s that Rich Hammond guy. I would have talked to him too but he never came out from behind his glass, hiding in the corner to escape contact with the commoners. Sorry Rich, I couldn’t resist. Its gonna be a great year.

@Otto Ped, you hit the nail on it’s head! When it comes to the game of hockey, from the gm down, they are all humans, know where they came from and are all approuchable. I have always been able to either go up to Gretzky, McSorley, Taylor, Robitaille as players and now off the ice in different positions-titles in the game now and talk hockey with them. It also helps that I grew up with the game and myself played at a high level so I am on the same level with them, just not at the PRO level. Lombardi is doing the right thing, building within as in draft picks, year after year, making the team get better and better. Thank GOD he did not put Kovalchuk in a Kings uniform. Learn from other great winning teams as he is doing, Oilers, Islanders, Devils.
