Thank God! I really want to see how the kid does. And now that the drama concerning that certain left wing is over, I can end my self-imposed silence.

WHEEEEEeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwww…..
Hated the thought of a 6-12 month “recovery” from this so early in the young man’s career.

I was so looking forward to seeing him on sunday, I couldnt wait any longer. But im really happy its nothing major. I dont know if he will be ready for training camp, really want him to make the team this year!

So far so good! Hopefully Brayden won’t feel pressured to participate if he’s not 100%

Every center prospect behind Brayden just got a little more bummed.
Not me though…>WHOHOO!

I have a good feeling about Nic Deslaurier. Can’t find much about him, but what I hear are extremely good things. I still can’t believe that after 30yrs. being a Kings fan, I actually get to care about the prospect pool. Thank you Dean Lombardi.

@MIK3Ysfv, How bout a plus 22 with his junior team last season ? And remember this, he is not known as great offensive defenseman like Doughty or Johnson. when you look at defensemen like Sean Odonnell, Willie Mitchell, or Rob Scuderi, they dont produce a lot of goals or assists either but take a good look at their plus minus stats throughout their careers and generally they are almost always in the plus category. So anyway, you definately have reason for optimism with this 19 year old kid !

@puck73, I will call you and raise you on Deslaurier! Fast track developer. Came from nowhere. Not highly regarded at first by some scouts, but now locked on radar. Good camp last year. Couldn’t help but notice this kid…good hands, puck skills, smooth skater and powerful strides, good instincts and not afraid of anything. Has all the intangibles and plenty of skills. He will be a good 4-5 NHL D-man IMO. I rate him over others more heralded in this camp at his stage of development. Been watching NHL for 45+ years and finally good to see LA with viable kid groups at camp! When I played D, it was put em on their keisters and keep em there..let the forwards take the puck. Now its D-man handling the puck alot, skating it out and making scoring plays or outlet lead passes for outnumbered attacks. Amazing changes in this game over those years! Watch for Voynov(19 also?) and Franzen(25?) with good skill sets and fine skaters. Experience in favor of Franssen, but Hickey might be a sleeper. If healthy Hickey has top end NHL wheels and puck skills. Needs to fill out some, but he is real deal. Everything below the neck is usually acceptable with these kids, just between the ears that has to come along. Phenoms have it altogether head to toe, the rest gotta find the game in their heads to rise up. Small but excessive difference! Where did all the forwards go? I see mostly fringe 3rd and 4th liners, save for Clifford, maybe Schenn and the unknown is Loktionov. Lok looks like a sure #2 center, Schenn not sure. Alot to ask for 19-20 year olds to lead the way and relieve Kopi from pressure to score goals. Clune, Westgarth, Lewis, Cliche, not much from this group. Next younger group is better potentially, but yet no real goal scorers. Perhaps little Kozun down the road. Parse has a chance to be a lamplighter if he applies himself at this level…comes and goes! Good kid from a good family and he is a smart kid! My nickles worth!

Great News! I watched Brayden in the playoffs last season and he looks like he has all the tools. I hope he makes the team.

Good News for Brayden. Let’s not think that this young fellow has to become a second line center this season at age 19. There are only a handful of Kopis out there who can make that kind of huge jump. Remains to be seen if Brayden is a #2 center iceman. The pressure should not be put on him to perform at that level…let it happen naturally, if it is going to happen. Management has not produced much this off season to improve this team for whatever assorted reasons. Let’s not have an environment that puts heavy pressure on untested youngsters to perform beyond their years in order to improve this club. Not a healthy environment for some of these kids to feel such pressure. You will notice that the Calder winners come usually from winning teams that put no pressure on their rookie standouts. Kings going in will have to fight for goals once again, save for a miraculous discovery in camp. Pressure is even greater on Kopi to score goals, and that is not necessarily a good thing. Schenn, IMO, is not a goal scorer type centerman much like the rest of the center cast. LW is woeful in goal scoring dept, and RW is best of the rest but no real gunners or snipers there. I am not a fan of addition by subtraction. Goalies will again be put to test to win 1 goal games at 2-1 or 3-2, under heavy pressure for young kids! Lets hope management will decide to take a chance to get a deal done sooner then later. We have many bullets in the gun to use as chips from the development side. The team needs managements’ help with goal scoring..please help and then we can see low pressure performances from these kids just having fun and being loose! My dimes worth!

@5holer, These are the changes from the end of last year that I can see.
Lost Gain +/- 1 to 5
#4 D-man Randy Jones Willie Mitchell +5
#6 D-man OD One of many prospects. -1
#1/2 Goalie E. Ersberg Jonathan Bernier +5
#1/2 Goalie Tired J.Quick Rested J.Quick +2
#3 LW A. Frolov Ponikorovski 0
#10-12 Forwards R.Ivanans Westgarth/Clifford +1
F. Modin, J. Halpern Parse, Schenn, or Moller +2
Remaining Roster Young 1 year + playoff Growth +2
By this set of evaluations I see a drastic improvement.
Also look at the Ducks & Dallas abit weaker, and SJ & Phx making some important changes that may be even or cause them to slip.

@luc20rules, There is alot of hope so in your evaluations. I only am hoping so with you! I think alot is tossed aside about experience being a great plus. The old adage is true, especially in hockey I think, experience is worth alot more than youth. The rare kid goes straight to the top and never misses a beat from peewees to midgets, to juniors and on up the ladder to NHL. But most have to get some notches carved into their belts with experience against men. Like all walks of life, experience is the best teacher no matter what you do for a living. I see alot of potential with your evaluations of those kids, but I also see your optimism overshadowing your analysis. We are woefully short on goal scoring, and that is not a news flash. Yes, I see us better on D, but that was our strength the last couple of years. So our strength got strengthened, but our weakness may have taken a fall or at best has gotten no better. I hope for a “miracle at Toyota Center” this camp, but I am not expecting that it will happen, just hoping so. I hope so just like you! Kings failed in playoffs because they had never been there…experience! The Canucks have for several years and it showed! 6 games is not enough to put on a long resume, but its a start. Experience out this year, youth in, so we shall see. Two acquisitions by early season is my guess! I am not a believer in addition by subtraction, except in rare cases (Avery, Nagy, some of that ilk maybe). OD ‘s ship has sailed, Jonesy was a bust after his injury in Dec. Fro will be missed for puck control. Mitchell & Poni a plus. Bernie will be #1 in goal as year progresses. Other kids largely unknowns, or just teenagers yet! Soon to be something but not quite there yet IMO!
My loonies worth!

@5holer,
Based on your analysis I would think you would sound more upbeat. Your apprasial makes beliee the team is better than last year despite what you have written.
Most experts think champiionships are won with defense. If we improved our positive, I suspect that means our defense will be better.
If Bernier is our goalie as the year progresses, then team will be improving at another key position.
There weren’t many changes from 2008-2009 team to the 2009-2010. Yet, maturing seemed to improve the team sigficantly. Should we expect no improvement this year? Fro puck control might be missed, but I never saw him check anyone. My sister checks better than Frolov does.
I think your analysis is right on. So I thank you angain. I’ve been a Kings fan for 43 years. And I know I live in Murphy’s world, I remain optomistic.
Go Kings go!
Go kings go.
@Puck73, I also understand that Deslaurier is one helluva fluid skater. I think it was Kyle Clifford or JF Berube or someone who said the kid is capable of some jawdropping coast to coast rushes.

@BakoCAkingsCondorsGuy, Thanks for that link! Its a fine tribute indeed. I saw Ace play at the LA Forum in the late 60′s and 70′s. Garnet, his father, played for the Maple Leafs in the late 20′s and 30′s. The elder a Leaf centerman was nearly killed in the Eddie Shore tripping accident at Maple Leaf Gardens, and Ace, the son who was killed on 9/11, a fine winger with the Bruins. Derek Sanderson with “Ace” Bailey on LW and Eddie Westfall on RW…Good line! Fine Canadian hockey family from Saskatchewan. Mark Bavis got a shot with the NYR Blue Shirts, but I do not remember him as a player much. Here’s hoping the Horse goes wire to wire at Belmont!! Let’s remember to bow our heads in their honor at training camp/Hockey Fest opening on Saturday 9/11/10. WOW 9 years ago! Gods Speed!

Good to see Brayden is gonna be ok, cant wait to see him again in the exhibition games. Last season, Schenn and Clifford played very well in those games and really made TM and DL think long and hard before sending them down.

Hey Rich,
I purchased my Hockeyfest ticket online. I know its last minute but I never received an email to print the ticket out or a hard copy in the mail.
Any ideas?

Great news! Now let’s see what he can do in camp! I wouldn’t expect him to crack the top six, but a 3rd line center is a possibility.
