Kings prospect Brayden Schenn is one of 23 players who will participate in a photo shoot Wednesday in Toronto, with the photos designed to be used for “upcoming trading card and memorabilia launches.” It’s called the “2010 NHLPA Rookie Showcase,” so it seems as though at least someone out there likes Schenn’s chances of making the Kings this season. The other prospects included are: Taylor Hall (EDM), Tyler Seguin (BOS), Nazem Kadri (TOR), Jordan Eberle (EDM), Kyle Beach (CHI), Jonathon Blum (NSH), Joe Colborne (BOS), Scott Glennie (DAL), Erik Gudbranson (FLA), Calvin de Haan (NYI ), Zach Hamill (BOS), Ryan Johansen (CBJ), Jacob Markstrom (FLA), Ryan McDonagh (NYR), Chet Pickard (NSH), Jordan Schroeder (VAN), Kevin Shattenkirk (COL), Jeff Skinner (CAR), Magnus Svensson Paajarvi (EDM), Tomas Tatar (DET), Mattias Tedenby (NJ), and Mats Zuccarello-Aasen (NYR). Remember, as noted a couple months ago, that Dean Lombardi said Schenn’s contract is structured in such a way that he wouldn’t have a huge salary-cap hit if he made the Kings this season. I don’t yet know what the exact figure would be, but that fact can’t hurt Schenn’s chances of making the roster as a fourth-line center.

He’s already made the big time… He’s in the new EA Sports NHL 11 Hockey game!
And not a bad 4th line center might I add!

I really hope he has a good camp and makes the team…same with Clifford.
Schenn would give us incredible skill on the 4th line..also it’s a way of breaking him into the NHL without exposing him to top 6 minutes and top checkers night after night.
The kids have a great chance to break into the linup this year. It’s all up to them how they perform during camp. That’s the way it should be. Nobody has a job, they all have to earn it. It can only help the Kings as we go forward.
Too bad guys like Teubert and Voynov are injured and won’t have the opportunity to compete for a job in camp. but again, one man’s misery is another’s opportunity. A guy like Hickey has the opportunity to realistically compete for an NHL job..I hope he makes it. I still recall seeing him leading the canadian juniors to the gold. The skill was there. Like the others, it’s all up to him.

4th line center, who works his way up to the 2nd line during the season as Stoll gets less and less ice time and eventually is traded near the deadline.
is it oktober yet?

@Mike, We will see if guys like Schenn,Clifford, and Fransson are ready for prime time. As far as your assessment on Stoll, totally disagree! He will eventually be our 3rd line guy as our team improves, but you do not trade your best faceoff man, and a guy that kills penalties, and can play on your powerplay, plus is a character guy. How does trading him away help ? To me, that just creates another hole

@Mike,
Even if Schenn made his way to the second line, Stoll would still have a place here. It’s called depth, and we’ll need it in the playoffs.

Damn straight!.. Then Jan 10th against the Leafs Brayden will avoid a check frum brother Luke, sending him head first over the boards into our bench, where Matt Greene and friends whisper sweet nothings into his ear. Brayden will continue dwn the ice and eventually score a beautiful goal causing Brian Burke to throw another old man bitch-fit for not pickin up Brayden in the draft… All peace will be restored in the universe at this precise moment in time… Then End.

@KINGSfan, It’s been like this for everyone for quite some time now. I’m not sure if they are trying to fix it or not. Same with the glitch they are having with the mobile version, not sure they are doing anything about it. I’m on a home computer and sometimes when I hit the refresh button, or just click to read the comments, I get brought to the mobile version. I do not like that format and wish they could fix that one stat.

I hope that’s not to confusing.

4th line? Will he see enough ice? Is that how he should be developed? I’m thinking, like Moller, he should see 1st or 2nd line duty in Manchester instead of 4th line work here in LA.

@JJ4Pres, Great point about Schenn not being able to go to Manchester yet. I mean, lets face it..on the one hand, he has nothing left to prove in the juniors, and yet on the other hand he almost certainly has to make this team because I dont think management wants to send him back down..precarious predicament ?

I know more than a few do want to hear anything from the likes of Ron Wilson but he was spot on with comments he made about Kadri and I believe it applies to BS as well.
He said something to the effect that Kadri can not be brought up as a third or fourth line center. He was drafted to be a top 6. To put him anywhere else is to put him in a situation where he will not be successful. You have to put human resources where they have the greatest chance of success.
BS on the fourth line? I’ll go with it if that is what they thought when they first drafted him. But even then, if they drafted that high for a fourth liner, it was a wasted pick. If Dean was not thinking along those lines, having him on the fourth line is an even more stupid decision.

Hey Rich, Can you give us an update on Ryan Smyth and his broken leg, will he be ready for training camp? Also, will Brandon Kozon be given a chance to make the Kings going into camp or does he need more seasoning?

Canada beat Latvia 6-1 in a pool-play game today at the IIHF World Championships, but Kings winger Ryan Smyth, Canada’s captain, is finished for the tournament with a broken ankle that he suffered in practice. Smyth told Canadian reporters that an MRI revealed a fracture. Smyth told reporters, “We’ve got the whole summer to heal. I’ll be itching and ready to go when September rolls around.”

I really can’t wait for the rookie camp, it will be the first live look at Johan Fransson. He looks great in the SEL highlight films, but really highlight films can be 1 out of 20+ type moves that look incredible when pulled off. It was obvious though that his skating skill/speed is high end. Consistant puck skill is what I want to see.

LucLivesOn Reply:

@tuan jim, Just more BS made up by that idiot Mathhew “Dancing” Barrie to give his blog some face time. While the Kings may like the idea of adding Penner to their lineup, giving up Johnson is NOT a viable trade partner unless they added more players. That rumor makes as much sense as saying the Kings are close to a deal with Edmonton trading Eric Ersberg for Taylor Hall!! However, don’t rule out DL trying to swing a legit deal for Penner using some of the “assets” in Manchester and recent draft picks NOT named Schenn.
[Reply]
I am from Brandon (where Schenn plays junior). Do Kings fans not think it would be poor for his development to stay with the Kings this year to play 4th line minutes? Why keep a kid around to sit on the bench. IMO, if he doesn’t make the third line send him back to junior. He will captain the Wheat Kings this season, light up the WHL and possibly even captain Canada at the World Juniors. Lots of ice time and responsability back in junior would serve him better than the bench in LA.
Ps. You guys have an AMAZING prospect on your hands. The only fault in his game at all is his questionable skating which he improved greatly last season.
