Best wishes to Bernie Nicholls, whose mother is scheduled to undergo heart surgery. Nicholls had been scheduled to participate in the Kings’ “Hockey Fest” on Sept. 11 in El Segundo, but former Kings defenseman Jay Wells has been added to the event and will participate in the “Life of a King” panel with Jim Fox, Luc Robitaille and Marty McSorley. The Kings also announced that Nick Nickson will host a panel called “Winning Culture” with current Kings who have played in the Stanley Cup Finals. Those panels, plus the “State of the Kings” panel with management, the “Kids Press Conference” and a pep rally with players highlight the event, which will also include fundraising activities for organizations related to 9/11. More information can be found by clicking here.
A prayer and two pumpernicholls to the Nicholls family. I’d love to see Wells, what a huge heart. It sounds like this is getting better every year.

Is Wells still married to a ex playmate??? If yes….will she be there???

My thoughts, and prayers go out to Bernie, his mum, and all of the Nicholl’s family. A prayer, followed by a pumpernicholl is definitely in order! I am very pleased to hear Jay Wells will be there. It’s going to be a great Hockeyfest!

Prayers for Bernie’s mom and the entire Nicholls family. Hoping for a full recovery.

Hopefully Bruce Mcnall will make a cameo appearance at Hockey Fest because I forgot to give him his going away presents back in 1994 when he went on vacation to the lovely city of Lompoc, California for 6 years. What were they ? Well, here’s a hint..They were popular Christmas presents back in the day from Brut and Old Spice !

@puck73,
I am not sure Bruce needed any of that. Not even the hardest of criminals (pun intended!) could mount that big boy!! The important thing is that felons will soon get the right to vote; its tough to argure with free sex, free food, and the patriotic love of country.
In any case, we should not make fun of the one who brought us 99. What we really need is a president/GM with the caution of Dean, mixed with good hockey sense of Dave Taylor, mixed with the money and “do whatever it takes” attitude of BM.
I have never been to prison, and I like chicks, but I miss the soap on a rope. How did it ever go out of style!?!
The true test of your manhood used to be measured by hanging a soap on a rope in the shower without having it slip off!

@Doc. Mark 1968, Your analysis on the soap on the rope is true ! I got more of it and Almond Rocca at Christmas time then I care to remember ! As for Dave Taylor, his biggest downfall was that he drafted poorly on defense and goaltending and Dean has slowly but surely corrected that. As for the “Crook”..I have stated many times that he threw other peoples money at problems at a time when the league did not have a hard salary cap like they do today. IMO with these kinds of restrictios today, neither one of those guys could balance drafting and developing players and figure out how to stay below the cap the way Dean has.

@puck73,
Do you remember the old “Roman Brio” soap on a rope?
It was like a huge ancient coin with a Roman warrior head on it.
It used to smell great but I always felt bad about scrubbing my crack with it because the warrior head would wash away and I always felt guilty!!
I am having too much damn fun on this blog!!
Its time for hockey season!

@Doc. Mark 1968,
Frankly I preferred the 7up adds that briefly appeared on TV.
99, great but not with other people’s money. A crook is a crook regardless of what he did for LA hockey. That could have been your money or mine.

What about Kopitar? Will he arrive there by then or maybe for the Golf tournament after that?

My best wishes to the Nichols family and hopes that the surgery is successful. My wife just had open heart surgery two weeks ago, and I know the stress and worry they are going through right now. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

Heartfelt thoughts and wishes go out to Bernie and his family. Hopefully all is well with his mum and she pulls through with no complications and a speedy recovery. Get well soon Mrs. Nicholls!
LMK how the event goes folks, bit far for me to fly for something that seems to be so scaled down compared to last year.

So has the STH State of the Franchise meeting been officially moved into this ticketed event?

Since this is the latest post, I will have to take it here. There are some rumours circulating that Kings are willing to trade Jack Johnson for either Dustin Penner or some other forward.
Isn´t that crazy? The whole reason we did not offer Ilya K a higher offer was because of the ability to resign DD, WS and JJ.
Most of you dont like IK anymore, but if we offered him a lot more from the beginning this circus may have been avoided, and everyone would have been happy about Kings aquiring one of the best snipers in the league. Then we could have traded Jack Johnson realizing we would never been able to resign him. We could have gotten a offensive defenseman, or a 2nd line center, with longer allready renewed contracts.
But hey, maybe it is just rumours…what do I know

@MacSwede, No, it’s A rumor,not rumors. And where did you see this? Of course, Matthew Barry. I think it is safe to say that he is wrong 95% of the time. Are his writings entertaining ? Quite often , yes, but dont get too worked up about his opinions because, like a lot of the stuff we write, most of it is speculation.

@puck73, Thanks fo the english lesson, now I might pass the tricky grammar test i failed a couple years ago
Yeah I know that you have to take Barrys reports with a grain of salt. I usually do, but this one seemed possible, and I just wanted to investigate in here with you fans what you would say IF it happened, IF Jack was traded. I know that no one (exept Kopitar and Doughty) are unexpendable (is that a word?). But the logic behind not giving Kovi a higher offer becuase of the importance of resigning Jack. It would upset me very much if DL traded him.
I still think that we missed a real opportunity with Kovalchuk, one that wouldnt come by again for a decade. I am still not over it, sorry..hate to bring up the ol’ Kovi debate.
Maybe I will get over it when we aquire some player of importance up front. It is very sad if Kopitars wingers next year is Smyth and Williams, he deserves better..
Just my 3 cents (joking)

@MacSwede,
What about Parise becoming available next year? While his yearly offensive numbers are not as high as IK, his average goals and assist numbers are pretty close. From what I have seen and heard, he plays defense also, something IK is not known for. He has 3 less years of wear and tear but 28 more games of playoff experience. I have a feeling his cap hit is going to be signifcantly less than what IK is seeking.
MacSwede Reply:
August 30th, 2010 at 11:18 pm
@MacSwede, That depends on how he plays this season. But I think NJ will do what it takes to resign Parise, so he will not be avaliable next summer.
And I dont want to talk about next summer, here we go again! We did it with Kovalcuk, hey, we even talked about him 2 summers ago. And now when the summer arrives what happen? Everyone in here keep saying we dont want him anymore and that he is a greedy russian. I didn’t hear that last summer…hmmm..
So, no more talk of an avaliable player next summer, been there before..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9u81Jq20g8&feature=related
Then we wouldn’t have to deal with the Anaheim Schmucks.

@Lime, that is acually pretty funny, but the Real reason you have to deal with the “Anaheim” Ducks is because Bruce Mcnall accepted 35 million dollars from Michael Eisner for the right to be within 100 miles of the Kings. Not sure if the bi-laws of the NHL are still that way but those were in fact the rules at that time. Looking back on it, its easy now to see why Mcnall took the money. The fact is, he needed it because his little ponzi scheme was coming apart at the seams and that money would give him some relief for at least another year before he went to the slammer.

It is a lot of talk about Schenn breaking the team this year, and that he might be our new 2nd line center. But what about Andrei Loktionov? When do you think his time is? I love the player, he had really bad luck when he got sent up. Does anyone know if he is 100% healthy?
He had great numbers in Manchester last year, and in windsor the year before. He has great skill. Could he be the next Sergei Fedorov? Then I think our 2nd line center problem is solved

I still wanna ask Marty what he was thinking when he prepared his stick during the Stanley cup playoffs against Montreal.
