A travesty

I’m really not sure how this happened, because I thought the issue had been settled, but it seems as though Five Guys has been named “best burger” by Zagat’s as part of its annual survey. In-N-Out finished second. I’m thinking of getting the results voided and calling Richard Bloch. Let’s hope this situation gets resolved next year, because while it’s perfectly reasonable to debate Tommy’s vs. In-N-Out, and Five Guys does have tremendous fries, this is not a just result. Perhaps it’s time for a Kings player “burger survey” in training camp?

Also, just so this sort of resembles a hockey post, NHL.com did a season preview of the Kings. It’s a little tough to start thinking about season previews, given that there’s still a very good chance that the Kings’ roster will have a different look in mid-September, but it’s almost that time…

    Five Guys burgers are amazing, but don’t come close to the unique taste of In N Out. Just keep in mind they are different style burgers. I get my five guys with mushrooms, mustard, and god knows what else. In N Out is a doubledouble with grilled onions AND non-cooked onions.

    With that said, the Five Guys hot dogs are even better than their burgers.

    I have recently had several of the burgers that people have named as contenders on this list:

    * The Habit – As salty as opening your mouth in the ocean. Also, the ambiance was terrible with fingernails-on-the-chalkboard chairs going in and out all meal. Ugh.

    * The Counter – Good, but WAYYYYYYYY overpriced. It’s easy to spend $15 per person!!!

    * Five Guys – I have to admit, I liked it slightly better than In-N-Out. I mean by the width of a hair. But, at double the price ($8 per person instead of $4), it’s just not that much better.

    I hate Tommy’s because it’s super greasy and makes me sick. That said, I haven’t been to one in a long time.

    @stillkingly, Poni comes close to replacing Frolov in terms of production. I’d rather have Fro, but at least we have something.

    One factor no one talks about is the individual improvement almost key player should have this year. Kopitar, Doughty, Johnson, Simmonds, Quick, and Bernier are all younger than 24 and should ALL be better. Brown is due for a better season, as well. We still have a bunch of prospects in Manchester that we can use to get another Modin (or better) down the stretch. And if Smyth and Williams stay healty, we won’t need to have Richardson playing on the first line.

    I don’t see any team that finished below us in the standings that is now better than us. We’re now better than Chicago. And I think we’re close to the Wings and Coyotes if not better. Vancouver and SJ are still problems, but would adding Kovy make us the top team in the West? Don’t think so..

    Not fast food, and not particularly upscale, my favorite burger is from Petrelli’s Steakhouse in Culver City. Can’t vouch for their steaks, but the burgers, ground from aged beef on site by the owner- an old school meat cutter by trade, have great sizzle and flavor.

    Unfortunately the fries that come with the burgers are sub-par, best bet is to order them up “crispy”.

    @fourtunato, just get to south philly and you cannot go wrong. Pat’s and Geno’s are the classics. Also, give yourself a break and go with a pork sandwich from Geno’s one day. Geno’s is the one where you are required to order in english. This was your prototypical Itialian neighborhood with a baseball game across the street every Sunday afternoon until the mid 90′s. Now they just play soccer, so the older residents feel pushed out. Their are still some classic Itialian houses. Pat’s usually has a slightly shorter line, but Geno’s usually moves their line faster. Enjoy and bring one back.

    I got your reply about the Defensive pairings, and your right while we can try DD-JJ, Scud-Fransson, #5 – #6 the truth of the matter is atleast last year DD-JJ were too aggressive as a pairing and cost us some goals last year 5 on 5. So a valid question is do we think they have matured enough to be the 1 & 2. We may need to bring in a D-minded guy to round out the top four and work in Fransson at #5 maybe double shift or PP time if he deserves it. If we go that route we will likely see our #6 be a big heavy type that plays 5 to 10 minutes a game and may even be asked to be the enforcer in some games. Which makes me favor Muzzin over Martinez, DD2, Harold, or a smaller offensive prospect at D(Hickey, Voynov, Desaularies).
    What are your forward lines?

    The most interesting part of this post by rich here is where he says there is a ‘very good chance that the roster will have a different look by September’. Anybody find this at least curious? Would signing WM give a different look, I don’t really see much changing this the roster at this point. I guess I am just wondering what he ment by that. Hopefully a trade in the works, or maybe we are still looking at Koval-bleep. Any word on if/whether fines will be issued in the circumvention cases? NHL.com says some of these contracts are still under investigation. When should we expect this to be resolved?

    [Reply]

    Tookie Reply:

    @OldmanSleepin,

    I don’t see the roster staying the same, It could, but with Greene going down I don’t see it.

    There are a lot of teams who need to shed salary and we have a lot of room currently. I think we trade Ersy and a prospect/picks for a D-man. I would like to see us get Mitchell however that’s like 4 injury prone players on our roster.

    I wouldn’t necessarily mind seeing 2 young guys get a shot, but preferably just one. I could see Drewiski and Muzzin rotating 6 and 7 d-man.

    I don’t think the forwards will change unless DL gets an enforcer somewhere. Smyth and Williams are injury concerns so maybe he gets another forward in a seperate deal…mayyyyyybe.

    In conclusion….I think the team will look different, just not in the next couple weeks. Not as fast as some would like. Before training camp.

    Tookie Reply:

    @Real 9,

    Potential wise sure, don’t forget that he was doing a good job between Labs and Quick. There’s gotta be a team out there who’d take him with his cheap contract, and some NHL experience. It’s not like he’ll be the only piece either. Add in picks and prospects and we should be able to some descent returns…just need the right trade partner.
