  1. What a great interview by Bob! Miller as always was hilarious telling his old stories. You could tell Hradek and La Greca loved doing that interview!

Rich, I know I post this alot, but thank you so much for all you do. My experience of being a Kings Fan has been elevated so much by your presence with the organization this year. This is yet another great interview that I enjoyed enormously that I certainly would have missed.

    Fantastic interview. Thanks Rich!
@Jet, Hawks fans are great but a little disappointed by the Tribune, even if they were just having fun. Even if you hate Pronger, you have to respect what he has done over his career and in the series. At least the poster points out that you love him if he is on your team.

@HawKings, All papers have to go to the lowest common denominator these days to pick up every possible reader. It is either become a tabloid, or shut your doors. Sadly, Rich’s old gig will likely be gone 12 months from now.

Why Bob does not get any broadcasting gigs outside the Kings is beyond me. Mike Emrick is fine enough but if I hear the word “waffleboarded” one more time…

Bob always comes up with a great treasure trove of stories and puts a funny twist on all things hockey. We are lucky.

I’ve been around since the Jigs McDonald days and I do have one wish for Bob. That the King’s win at least 1 cup for Bob. I can die happy if that happens.

Not only was the interview fun, I enjoyed even more the way Hradek and La Greca spoke of him at the end of the show. They wished the entire show could have been spent with Bob. It’s this kind of admiration and respect that Mr. Miller deserves. A true class act.

Mr Miller I hope you never retire, for you are are Stanly Cup, until of cource when one day they will win the Stanly. If you get tried in your late 70s just do are home games until you are 99.

    Your fan since 78

I’ve been following the Kings since ’73, when Bob was doing his first years with them. It was Bob who turned me into a serious hockey fan. Back then it was all radio with a smattering of games (road only) and usually teams that would beat the crap out of us, Montreal, Boston, etc…. but when you listened to Bob on the radio you could visualize what was going on, he made it so exciting to hear. My moniker of Goring 19 is obviously a tribute to Butch Goring who was one of Bob’s favorites from the early days. Bobs seen a lot of players come and go over the years, still always with hope for the ultimate prize, Lord Stanley’s cup. I’ve accomplished several things in my life, my Anaheim Angels winning the world series, hiking a 12,000 foot mountain to catch a golden trout, but I still need that L.A. Kings championship that I’ve wanted since I was a kid, but I want it just as bad for Bob and all King’s fans, because there’s a special something amongst all of us, a bond perhaps. Anyway, Mr. Miller, I can’t wait ’till the start of next season to once again hear your magic of calling Kings games. Thank you for all the years. Rock on Bob.
    A loyal Kings/Bob Miller fan

If Bob Miller is waiting for the Kings to win the Cup before he retires, I half-hope the Kings never do win it.

So I guess we can start the arguments now. Comcast Sport Net up in the bay area is reporting that Rob Blake is retiring. We all know the love/hate relationship Blake has with Kings fans. So….

    1) Is Rob Blake a hall of famer?

    2) Should the Kings retire his number 4?

    My answers:

    1) Yes. He’s had a significant impact on the game. In his prime there wasn’t a better hip checker in the history of hockey.

    2) Yes. I know Kings fans don’t like Blake’s money grab moves, and neither do I. But he was the face of this franchise along with Luc and Gretz for over a decade. Retire #4.

@Paul From Oxnard, Agreed on both counts.

@Paul From Oxnard, I say ‘no” on both accounts. Blake had an excellent hip(butt) check but far from the best in hockey history.

Back in the day when they televised few games, I would listen to Bob Miller on the radio. He made the game so exciting that I would lean forward in my seat when he got that edge to his voice as a goal seemed eminent. He could make the game seem more exciting on the radio than it appeared on tv.

I briefly met Bob at one of his book signings and told him that I missed him doing the similcasts. He said he missed doing them too.

Of course, if Blake’s retiring, we can hang his uniform from the rafters at Staples . . . with him in it.
