    Cool.

    Will he be subject to waivers next season?

    Also, is the contract one way or two way?

    Quisp Reply:

    @Tompa,

    Since three years have passed since he signed his first contract, he is no longer waiver-exempt.

    Successfully turned my head last season. Could be one of our answers at the LW position. Possible replacement for Fro…

    Good contract for D.L., would have thought Scott might get a bit over $1 mill.

    @Chuck,

    Looking at JJ’s and Quicks I would say no way but what is Richardson going to get? That’s the real question.

    @GP, Has he proved to you that he’s a superstar? Good contract IMO. Deano can always give him more money if he proves to be a winner next contract.

  11. Good for Parse, hopefully good for the Kings AND Parse, long-term…

    Any chance for an interview, Rich? In addition to the contract, I’d love to hear his reaction about the Monarchs’ great post-season…

    Over payment IMO, too much for a guy who hasn’t proven much. 600-700k is what it should have been

    Masked Man Reply:

    @Tim, What has he done to hurt you? :) You gotta offer him something he’s not going to scoff at and run to Anaheim with. lol

    @Tim,

    Parse kicks ass! He will be the kind of player who is very important if the Kings are planning on having more north-south capability next season.

    Richardson is the next must sign RFA.

    Bro, as far as salary is concerned just remember: Almost half of what he makes goes to taxes!!!

    [Reply]

    DougS Reply:

    @Tim,
    If Parse had been RFA, I might agree with you. But my understanding is that he was UFA, which means that the Kings had rather less leverage than if his free agent rights were still restricted.

    I think it’s a reasonable contract. Another team might or might not have offered him the same, but from the Kings POV, do you really want to take the chance of losing him for nothing?

    Besides, you’re talking about a difference of $200-300k. That’s not even the value of an ELC these days, which means all it gets you is a bag of pucks and a round of drinks at the stadium club.

    Already been said, but looks like a win-win situation for both parties.

    If Parse can get a bit more consistency in his game, he’ll be a great asset to the team.

    Congrats, Parsely!!

  15. Newf says:

    very nice. now if he can just stay consistent.

  16. KC23 says:

    Yeah, appears to be win-win. After two years he’ll be a restricted free agent, or?

    Eric C. Reply:

    @KC23, No, he was already a UFA this year.

  17. To help fuel the In-N-Out vs. Tommmy’s debate, it should be noted that In-N-Out has today announced it is expanding into the state of Texas…

    I’m moving to San Antonio in July for a year and then back to Cali next summer. Like In-N-Out and Tommy’s but prefer 5 Guys to both. Have all 3 in San Diego.

    @BakoCAkingsCondorsGuy,

    My favorite is “The Hat” in Alhambra.

    Most of my friends love “In and Out” and it is OK but I think it is not what most people say. The uncooked potato fries suck!!

    Although I am CA born and raised, I have been in Texas for the past four years now to go to school. IAO will have to compete with WhataBurger and Sonic. Those places are OK but not like “The Hat” back home in Alhambra.

    I used to get drunk and go there all the time!!

    Thanks for your post; now I am really hungry!!

    now how about the news for doughty’s ext. contract?

  20. Cynic says:

    How funny that I was thinking of Scott today for no apparant reason. VERY fair contract. Scored quite a bit for the limited minutes he played and this contract will see him through as he shores up the defensive side of his game. If he does that, he could be a top 6, (I think) 2nd line LW. He’s got touch and vision. If he could just get toughter and backcheck, he’d be the whole package. This is a fair dollar amount to see if he puts in the work.

    Congratz Scotty and nicely done DL! Glad to see he’s staying.

    I give Quisp an assist on this signing, great blog on Parse’s Evauation. Although untested as a top 6 forward Parse put up plenty of numbers per minute to deserve being resigned. I wish we would have locked him up longer, but I am sure Parse wanted a short contract to prove what he can do and get a bigger one.

  23. rontheking says:

    Yay! Great signing! Giving him just enough carrot to motivate him to keep improving…this guy has a huge upside, good hockey sense and skill set.

    No clue why anyone would be upset with this signing. Only for sure signs this year was Richardson and Parse. One down one more to go.

  25. Crown Royal says:

    Surprised but happy about this signing. I had a feeling that TM didn’t particularly like this player or was it just a lack of understanding about his offensive upside?

    Anyway, a good move by DL to keep him. Parse is the closest thing the Kings have to a sniper. Other than Kopitar he is the Kings most dangerous player when PLAYING LEFT WING. Hoping TM has the sense to give him a real shot at that position on one of the top two lines this coming season.

    jet Reply:

    @Crown Royal, I am not disagreeing with Quisp, but there were times when I saw mental lapses in his own zone. The good news is that he can play defense and he is willing, he just needs to improve the concentration. He also did not finish a check once. I think it was the second half of the 2nd period against Boston.

    Anyway, it is difficult as a coach to play someone you do not fully trust on D. TM played him more minutes than I would have. I still agree with you about getting time on the second line, especially before break.

    [Reply]

    Crown Royal Reply:

    @jet,

    I think the mental lapses were occured much more frequently in the earlier call-up. After going back down to Manchester then coming back up again I think he was better all over the ice. He may not ever win the Selke but neither will Smyth.

    Agreed he needs to be better focused on his all around game but if Smyth plays like he did in the second half then Parse should maybe be on the first line and first power play unit.

    jet Reply:

    @Crown Royal, I understand what you are saying. I think missing so many games the past few years set his overall development back. This is the most important summer of his life and hopefully he knows this.
