Kings sign Parse

The Kings have signed forward Scott Parse to a two-year contract. Parse had 11 goals and 13 assists in 59 games in his first NHL season. I don’t have immediate word on the contract numbers yet, but I’ll pass them along when I get them…

@Quisp, I knew you would be happy about this. After seeing your spreadsheet data crunching on him, this seemed like a no brainer! Did you forward to DL or something?

@Quisp, Not only does this guy seem to have soft hands but he has also really paid his dues in College and Minor League Hockey. The fact that this guy not only had 11 goals in limited minutes of 59 games, but also maybe just as important was a plus 13 tells me that the coaching staff in Manchester did a very good job making him a well rounded player. Also, when you consider that prime is usually 24 to 32 years old this is somebody that may be coming into his own right now and is definately someone I would take a chance on…Solid Signing Dean !

    @Quisp,
You might have a career in being a player agent. Or as least you can ask Parse for a cut.

2 years?! He’s got a good agent. I bet TM wasn’t happy about this. What’re they going to do next, re-sign Frolov? That should kill him. Hmmm…

I’ll feign a small bit of surprise, only because I think there’s a few young kids ready to knock on that door. He’s still gonna be fighting for ice time come training camp, but he certainly earned his deal.

not unexpected, glad they did it even if it does mean Fro resigning is less likely.

Not to rain on my own parade, but signing Parse doesn’t equal keeping Parse. You would also sign him if you wanted to move him. Locking him in for two years at his current value is a win-win. A year from now, either he’s proved he’s worth it, in which case it’s a good signing, or he’s underperforming, in which case he’s a valuable asset with an affordable contract. In Cap-land, everybody needs cheap guys who can play real minutes and put the puck in the net, guys you can plug into any line and it will work. And if Lombardi is thinking of moving him now, he’s worth more with a deal already locked in (assuming it’s an affordable contract, which I think is a safe assumption).

@Quisp, did not think of all that ..that you for the insight..
I thought he did a good job last year as a rookie..with more seasoning and confidence I think we have a decent player on board. Nice hands, good size, and the price does not seem like much although this is the weakest part of my
    hockey knowledge.

@Quisp, I posted on the next blog that you deserve a assist on this one, after the the great blog you posted on Parse’s Evaluation. So pleased just wish it would have been a 4+ year contract, but I am sure Parse’s agent insisted a short term so he could show his value and get paid in the next contract.

Not sure what to thnk especially without the terms of the deal being known. Don’t have a good grasp of what happens after the two years. I’m thinking it must be that he still will not be an unrestricted free agent so we can match any ofer after the two years, but not sure.

  17. Good move signing Parse. I thought he played well at time when he was in the lineup, and typical of a rookie, he did make some mistakes. Has a good scoring touch, and I wonder if what Matt Moulson did last year, influenced DL to keep his own players that showed scoring ability?

I never understood why TM didn’t like him. His defensive play always looked above average to me and the numbers look even better than that.

    Good signing.

This is a smart “insurance” signing by DL.

Since it looks like Fro’s gonna’ walk, Parse can replace some of Fro’s scoring (from a total team perspective), while playing on 3rd/4th lines most of the time with some PP work too. He could conceivably get around 20 Gs and 40+ pts next season. With more production improvement from Richardson (who has similar 40+pt potential, IMO), most of Fro’s 50-60 pts could be replaced right there by these 2 guys. Add the muscle (and production) of precocious rookies Schenn and Clifford, and Fro may not be missed all that much.

Also, the salary space made available by Fro’s departure
    makes signing Volchenkov easier.

    But back to Parse…

All the guy needs is a few more lbs of muscle and some extremely hard & focused strength/power training in the weight room this summer. With more determination to add a notch more “pop” to his game-to-game performance, Parse could move up considerably and surprise some people next season.
