The Manchester Monarchs allowed two goals in the first 10 minutes and couldn’t rally as they lost 4-2 to the Hershey Bears in Game 1 of the AHL Eastern Conference Finals in Hershey. Game 2 is Saturday in Hershey. Andrei Loktionov and Gabe Gauthier scored for the Monarchs in Game 1, and Jonathan Bernier allowed four goals on 28 shots.
Hershey’s Sean Collins scored 16 seconds into the game, and Andrew Gordon added a power-play goal at the 10:02 mark. Steve Pinizzotto made it 3-0 Bears, 7:25 into the second period, and it stayed that way until Loktionov scored with 7:28 remaining in the third period, with assists to Jake Muzzin and Kyle Clifford. Hershey’s Karl Alzner made it 4-1 Hershey with 5:42 remaining before Gauthier scored, with assists to Oscar Moller and Trevor Lewis, with 3:50 remaining. Hershey goalie Michal Neuvirth stopped 24 of 26 shots.
