Captain Canada (again)

Kings winger Ryan Smyth has been named captain of Team Canada for the IIHF World Championships, which are being played in Germany. Canada’s first game is tomorrow against Italy. Smyth has been Canada’s Captain at the World Championships six times now, and did it every year from 2001-05. The United States, with Kings defenseman Jack Johnson as captain, will open the tournament against Germany at about 11:15 a.m. Los Angeles time today. The game is being played in a large outdoor stadium and is expected to draw a crowd of more than 70,000. The game is scheduled to be broadcast on Universal Sports, for those who get that network (it’s not on DirectTV). I’ll have updates on that later…
