Monarchs win Game 3

The Manchester Monarchs beat the Worcester Sharks 5-0 tonight to take a 2-1 series lead in the second-round AHL playoff series. Jonathan Bernier stopped 26 shots for the shutout. The Monarchs got two goals from Trevor Lewis and one goal each from Gabe Gauthier, David Meckler and Corey Elkins. Oscar Moller had two assists. The Monarchs host Game 4 tomorrow night. Bernier has allowed six goals in three games against the Sharks, who finished second in the AHL in goals scored in the regular season.

NHL.com did an item on Bernier yesterday as well…

    Are these games televised?

    @james,

    If you browse the net you can find the radio play by play. They interviewed Bernier after the game. Somewhat more informative then the FOX interviews.

    @USHA #17, You don’t even really need to browse the net. The Monarchs typically stream their broadcast through their site.

    Also, if you really want a visual, you can buy the games through AHL Live, though it is 9.99 per game/39.99 per round. And in my experience, because the games aren’t television broadcasts, they aren’t television quality.

    I’m so glad that the Kings are seeing his developement thru to the end.He’s going to be something special for it.
    With DD and JJ on defense,we’re almost there.If we can develope a sniper to come in and make some noise with Kopi,we’d be set.

    Rich, What are the possibilities of Bud Holloway making the team next year?

    [Reply]

    jet Reply:

    @Kopi11, Looks like he completly disappeared tonight. Where the ‘h e double hockey sticks’ was Holloway? If he fails to get the game winner tomorrow, we can just call him Haulaway.

    holly Reply:

    @jet, The downfall of the Holloway line (on the score sheet, at least) was not on the shoulders of Azevedo or Holloway. Dwight King was miiiighty uncomfortable in front of the net for some reason tonight.

    Still, he played well despite not having the game winner (or a goal at all).

    @holly, I was joking, Holloway has been great.
    Hey, is Voynov playing at 100%?

    holly Reply:

    @jet, SHHH… remember that we’re 3 hours ahead of you guys and that sometimes our brains are fuzzy when it’s still early for you.

    Voynov has looked pretty good. If he isn’t at 100%, he’s pretty close. That kid’s shot from the point is damn impressive, let me tell you that.

    @holly,

    Dwight King absolutely destroyed an Islander in a very one-sided pre season fight played in Kansas City. Hope he continues to improve.

    Quick better work on his fundamentals this summer if he doesn’t want Bernier to take his job next season. The Kings goalie situation finally looks good.

    I love how Bernier talks about how he wanted to work on his mental consistency this season. Quick could learn a lot from the 21 year old.

    It gonna be a one-two punch next year. Cap space and an stream of talent on the farm

    Expect to finally see the benefits of a great system. A great LA system no less.

    Pick up a good front line player or two and have a whole new, and young, supporting back end.

    The Monarchs , played a great game for a full 60 minutes, very solid defensively , took the body all night , forced Worcester’s play along the boards and not up the middle for the most part.. Worcester took a lot of penalties …45 minutes worth .. to our 4 minutes… it was great to see Trevor Lewis break out with 2 goals after missing most of the season with an injury… the guys were very disciplined… the next game is Sat night at the Verizon Wireless Arena…and once again Bernier was the rock , the anchor that allowed all the above to happen. GO MONARCHS!

    @luc20rules, just taking a shot at the haters without making it sound like a personal attack. If you look back at the posts over the last couple of years you’ll see I have been Holloway’s biggest supporters. I think he is still a year or two away from making a run one of ‘the slots’.

    Go Bernie! Keep up the good work, this experience will be invaluable, can’t wait for a full year in the NHL next year. Quick will still be #1, but Bernie should get at least 25 games.

    great ta see manchester starting to come together so quickly. It’s great to finally have a President/GM that understands how important it is to draft and develop your own talent. Plus with players in the juniors doing so well it looks like Manchester will have a fresh new batch next season. One player who was called up this year that really impressed me was Corey Elkins. I believe he has the potential to be a 3rd or 4th line center on this team fairly soon.

    Quick and Bernier will split time next year until Bernier takes over and Quick becomes a backup. (Which is all he should be) I’m 100 percent sure Bernier in net Kings are still playing hockey. Quicks fail was predictable 30 games ago.

    I think Quick is going to end up with the starting job and he’ll earn it, but he won’t be playing anywhere near the same number of games he did this season and be fresh for the playoffs.

    Dominick Reply:

    @KC23,
    Hopefully Bernier can push him to be even better than he was this season.It would be nice if that competetive nature takes both of them to another level.Hights we as Kingsfans have only dreamed in our wildest dreams.
    The trick will be how TM handles their games.Going with the hot hand is why EE sat on the bench most of the year.By the end of the season it was too late to turn back.Played Quick right into the ground.
    Bernier will have to come in and restore confidence in the back up position.
