Greene, Johnson to Worlds

Kings defensemen Matt Greene and Jack Johnson will represent the United States at the IIHF World Championships, which will be held May 7-23 in Germany, the Kings announced today.

Greene played in the 2007 and 2008 World Championships, plus the 2003 World Junior Championships. Johnson won a silver medal with Team USA in this year’s Olympics and also played in the 2007 and 2009 World Championships and the 2006 and 2007 World Junior Championships.

Also, it was announced that Kings head equipment manager Darren Granger will be a part of Canada’s training staff for the World Championships. Granger worked for Canada at the 1999, 2006 and 2008 World Championships.

    Isn’t there an age limit? But whatever… congrats for Smyth.

    Didn’t get to play for CAN in the Olympics because of the injury, but he’s frickin’ “Captain Canada!” He HAS to play.

    I was hoping the Canadians would Wayne Simmonds. This guy is as productive in every single shift as anyone, and he would benefit from playing that level of international competition.

    Off topic, but is anyone else not impressed with Patric Marleau’s playoff performances? I hope the Kings don’t go after him in F/A. We’re going back there every year now, so why go after someone who disappears at the most important time of the year?
