The Manchester Monarchs beat the Worcester Sharks 3-2 in overtime tonight to even their best-of-seven second-round series at 1-1. Bud Holloway scored the winner, 4:29 into overtime, and has scored the winning goal in all five of the Monarchs’ playoff wins so far. Jonathan Bernier stopped 31 of 33 shots and the Monarchs also got goals from Corey Elkins and Justin Azevedo. Game 3 will be played Friday at Manchester.
Yeah baby

So am I…
Waves and Rich have got us going on the Monarchs…
I say we keep going with them for as long as they can stay in the Calder Cup Playoffs…

Did the Kings send someone down to help out Manchester during the playoffs?

If I remember correctly, I think their roster is frozen at this point…

Sometimes the roster includes possible call-backs; the roster changes every series.

@BakoCAkingsCondorsGuy, It would only include players on the clear day roster who were called up to the Kings under an emergency situation.
The goal is to prevent drop down assists like you were wondering about. College and Junior players can be added without issue as their season ends, but unless a player in the NHL was an emergency recall, they aren’t allowed to drop down to AHL.
NO, thank goodness. Enough guys have come back to Manchester in the past with their “LA attitudes” as we call it and have hurt the team, more than helped. With just about everyone healthy, we should be all set, especially in net.
Hickey still out with the boot on and Westy left the ice part way thru tonights game & I heard from someone it was his knee.

@Simarosa,
Thanks.
As a fan of the AA ECHL Bakersfield Condors, I understand what you mean about the “L.A. attitude”…
However, you might remember Kyle Calder? He played with the Condors during two stints this year, including the playoffs, and was the team’s best player, by work ethic alone.
It will always depend upon the player. I have an undying respect for Mr. Kyle Calder after this season…

They are pretty brutal over there, for sure. Don’t let them have any rope – seems like the consensus would be to lynch Green. Even saw a “doesn’t deserve to win the Norris” comment.

@LUCKYLUC13,
Talk about whiners, one of the comments over there said something to the effect of 18 years without a championship and counting. I would have posted if I didn’t have to sign up. These people don’t know REAL pain from the lack of a championship. Try 43 years and counting!!!
I fart in the general direction of your 18 years.

@LUCKYLUC13,
Any Caps fan who’s upset over another wasted season still doesn’t know that their team is not built for playoff hockey. No team that routinely wins its game by scores such as 7-4 or 6-3 is ever gonna make a serious run in the playoffs. Successful playoff teams tend to shut down their opponents rather than rely on blowing them out of the water to advance.
[Reply]
Looks like Bernier is on the road to his long run in the playoffs.
[Reply]
Wow Washington has nothing to hang their heads about. The last two games they DOMINATED. The Montreal goalie is really the only one that showed up.

@King John,
Bud’s been talked about every now and then around these parts.
He’s a good guy with a good work ethic. This season he’s definitely developed his scrappier game and I’d say if he puts on a little weight over the summer, he may have a shot at getting at least a few games in LA in next year. I don’t know that he’ll make it out of the gate, though.

@King John,
Holloway, along with several other prospects including Jack Johnson, was mentioned in Gare Joyce’s 2007 (?) book Future Greats and Heartaches, which is about 2 years of Joyce living with scouts and prospects. Good read.
Summarizing Joyce: Holloway comes from a real small town (like 200 people I think); had only 3 interviews at the prospects combine; and in what has become a big $ business for some replete with high tech diets and trainers, was also notable for his interview response that he worked out with Kmart weights spotted by his brother. Tough road to make it into the pro sports world.

@Dan H.,
I’ll agree that Halak was great in game 6 but Washington didn’t show up in game 7. Montreal was better at puck control and getting to loose pucks. Every time a Washington player went into the Habs zone there was one/two and sometimes three Habs on him taking the puck away or blocking a shot. How many 2nd chances did Washington have? Not many. How many shots from the point got through – not many. Halak didn’t even look like he was working hard last night. Factor in that Washington had multiple players trying to ‘do it all themselves’ and they lost. Green got ‘OWNED’ all night. He took bad penalties and got rocked several times in his own zone. The guy shouldn’t be a Norris candidate this year.
The Habs win does guarantee us a move up on the draft list. I think we go from drafting 21st to 20th now. Go Philly! If they get into the EC Finals then the Ducks get a bottom 4 pick! If the Habs beat Pitt then we move up to 19th.

@54FIGHTING,
The draft pick thing is a little bit of fun. I like that I’m not worried about the Ducks now, just worried about my boys taking the next step…ahead of the Ducks of course.
Go Monarchs! Prove what we already know, that our prospects are better than San Jose’s!

Regarding last night’s game, let’s hear it for ex-LONG BEACH ICE DOG Jaroslav Halak ! Jaroslav came to the Dogs when they were a farm team for the Habs AHL team in Hamilton….Unfortunately, we only had him for about half the year, as it quickly became apparent that he was ready for the AHL & subsequently the NHL….According to some of the Hockey Buzz trade fantasies, the Kings were interested in Halak before Quick & Bernier solidified the position…..Not available anymore, I’d guess, although Carey Price can be had……Quick for Price ? I’m not a Quick hater like many fans, but I think Price has more upside and Bernier will be better than both anyway….
