Ryan Smyth’s postgame thoughts…
(on the game…)
SMYTH: “In the first two periods, I thought we were getting the puck in deep and we were retrieving it well. They battled hard. They chipped away and found a way to get a few breaks. You’re going to make your breaks in this game, and they did that. Obviously, I think the Sedin line played extremely well throughout the series. It’s obviously tough to watch and swallow this one.”
(on the postgame locker-room mood…)
SMYTH: “Somber. Just really disappointing, because we did know, mentally, that we had a chance to win the series at points throughout. It’s the old cliche of experience vs. inexperience. I look at it as, these young kids who played for the first time in the playoffs, they didn’t look out of place by any means at all. It was a big battle, and all you can do is take the positive and learn from it and hopefully come back next year and get in.”
(on Luongo’s second-period save on his shot…)
SMYTH: “It would have been 2-0. That one hurt, because he was down and obviously he threw his glove up. Obviously I think he’s a great goaltender.”
