Afternoon listening

Here’s some pregame audio, provided by Nick Nickson, from Ryan Smyth, Brad Richardson, Anze Kopitar and Terry Murray in advance of tonight’s game…

April 25 audio

Also, I asked Murray today about the type of attitude he would like his team to have going into Game 6. Does he want them to be loose, or intense, or does it matter to him?

MURRAY: “Well, you’ve got to be intense. You’ve got to be aware of what the situation is, and it’s hard to be relaxed whenever it’s an elimination game. So the intensity is important, to come out and do the right things right away, get your game established and play hard and play the right way. Again, as I talked about at the start of this series, it’s important to come out with the mental approach that you’re going to play a good game. You don’t have to try to do anything spectacular, but that does demand the intensity to be there right at the start.”

I have away from this blog a few days and just read all the comments. While Ive always commented that Quick was just average and Jones was terrible, that’s all beside the point now. Game 5 was awful thru and thru, but remember the game earlier this year against Atlanta – I didnt think the Kings could possibly look worse than that game, yet they came back to win the final two games on that road trip. It’s just one game.

I suspect the Canucks are going to be a bit tentative (and perhaps a touch overconfident) tonight, looking to just pounce on Kings’ mistakes, so coming out strong is a must. Before these playoffs, the Sedins were a bit of question mark for me cause they never really have performed in the playoffs like they have in the regular season; I attribute that to the closed checking, more physical play in the playoffs, and the Kings MUST play more physical against their line. Hit them enough times and you just might get them listening for footsteps instead of dancing all around the ice. PUT THE BODY on the twins and you can change the momentum of the series.

And also, how about winning some faceoffs! Every time we ice the puck and the Canucks get to put their top line out against our tired skaters, I cringe (especially if Jones is out there). At least tie them up so they dont win it so cleanly!

It really just comes down to one strong, physical win and then its a crapshoot in game seven. GO KINGS!

  2. Just give us your best effort boys! All we ask is that the Kings lay everything on the table tonight. Win face offs, battle for every loose puck, put traffic in front of Luongo, play smart defensively, and try not to do too much. I expect Staples to be rockin tonight! The Kings have beat this team twice in a row before and can do it again!

What I heard in these audio clips was alot of “we have to play a full 60″, “we have to come out strong right from the start”, “we have to be better 5 on 5″, and a few others that we’ve all heard before.

What I’d like to hear is WHO is not playing a full 60 and WHY! I assume that since it’s the PLAYOFFS, for gods sake, that they are ALL playing a full 60.

I just think they are not playing a SMART, full 60. Way to many dumb mistakes. Yes, I know they are overall a young team but when I see JJ flip a puck over the glass for a penalty I just become apoplectic!

I expect the veterans like Modin, Scuderi and Handzus to make some key plays and Brown and Kopi to really step it up. Doughty…well we need not worry about him…he’s a friggin stud! But Jones better get his shit together and JJ needs play a little smarter.

Despite what many of you think of me and my comments this year, I’m really proud of this team overall. A win tonight would make my year and end my vow of celibacy which will end when the Kings win a playoff series!
