Drew Doughty has been selected as a finalist for the Norris Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL’s best defenseman. Chicago’s Duncan Keith and Washington’s Mike Green are the other two finalists. The winner will be announced at the NHL Awards in Las Vegas on June 23.
It’s interesting to note that none of the finalists are older than 26 and that the winner will be a first-time winner. Voting has already taken place, so we’ll just have to wait and see who takes the prize. I’ll definitely get some reaction from Doughty after today’s morning skate.
It’s a no brainer DD -Norris Trophy winner. The other two guys had great years but DD was over the top

Rich — Are you still a part of the PHWA?

Awesome for Drew! now lock him up DL!

I’d vote for him! Even if he doesn’t win this year, his name will be on the Norris Trophy many times over the next ten to twenty years! Congrats Doughty!

Congrats Drew and good luck! Keith also belongs in the top 3. Frankly I would have picked Pronger instead of Green for the other slot.

Well deserved, DD. Now if the vote recognizes true all around defensive prowess, it’s Doughty or Keith. It’s spooky how good Drew is and looks like he will become.
Funny, it was Burkie, I think, who before the draft chattered about how he would NOT select Doughty, being as he thought Drew had already reached his development peak and “what you see of him now is all he’ll be…” Something like that.

LOL Mike Green.
But seriously….CONGRATS DREW!!!! This was absolutely well deserved.

Rich, who did you vote for?

That’s the three that are supposed to be there… so, if Green wins, we can all whine in unison, “EAST COAST BIAS”… which has a shred of truth but will sound stupid.
Of course, if Keith wins it’s COMPLETELY deserved, and there’s no such thing as “MIDWEST BIAS”
That being said, it’s been a pleasure watching Doughty this season, and there’s no reason to believe he’s got any less than a 33% chance of winning this year, and about a 99% chance of winning about nine or ten of these before they hang #8 in the rafters at Staples Center.
Good finalists!

I would be fine with Keith winning, but not Green. Doughty is way ahead of Green.

Tough fight against the eastern bias, and most people east of the Mississippi have probably seen much more of both other candidates, but it’s become more and more apparent that Doughty is deserving.

Mike Green is bad defensively. There’s no way he can win this award so it will be either Doughty or Keith.

No Doughty bought it……….Drew will win.

I wouldn’t say that Green is bad defensively, but he is not nearly on the same level as DD or Keith. He’s also benefited from being on one of the most explosive offensive teams in the last decade. I wonder how many second assists he has?
It should come down to DD or Keith. Unfortunately, all of the intangible, non-game factors lean in Keith’s favor, from team standing, to team legacy, to team location. In any case, DD is deserving of the trophy, and that’s what matters to the Kings and us fans.
