Dustin Brown’s postgame thoughts… (on not “backing in” to the playoffs…) BROWN: “I think it’s important for us, as a team, not to worry about it. You look at the standings every day, but ultimately it comes down to how you play the game. It should be irrelevant whether Detroit or Calgary or any other [...]
FINAL: Blues 3, Kings 1
The Kings finish 0-1-1 on their quick two-game road trip, as they outshot St. Louis 31-26 but lost. More from the locker room ASAP…
Blues 3, Kings 1
After a video review, the Blues regained a two-goal lead. Paul Kariya picked up a rebound in front of the Kings’ net, and Randy Jones attempted to keep the puck out of the net, but a video review showed that Jones kicked the puck out after it had crossed the line.
Blues 2, Kings 1
The Kings pulled within 2-1 with a power-play goal at the 4:38 mark of the third period. After a St. Louis defensive-zone turnover by Barret Jackman, Dustin Brown scored on a close-range wrist shot.
End of second: Blues 2-0
Shots were 10-9 Blues in the second period. In what might end up being the only bit of good news for the Kings tonight, Calgary lost to the New York Islanders 3-2. The Kings’ magic number for making the playoffs has been reduced to 10.
Blues 2, Kings 0
The Blues pushed their lead to 2-0 at the 1:06 mark of the second period. St. Louis forced the puck away in the neutral zone, and Keith Tkachuk came up the right side on the counter-attack. His shot hit traffic, but T.J. Oshie was there, in front of the net, to knock the rebound past [...]
End of first: Blues 1-0
Kings outshot the Blues 6-4 but allowed the period’s only goal and also didn’t score with 5:19 of power-play time, including a 41-second 5-on-3 advantage.
Blues 1, Kings 0
St. Louis took the lead 3:57 into the first period. Kings defenseman Davis Drewiske bobbled the puck at the offensive blue line, and the Blues jumped on it and started a 2-on-1 break. B.J. Crombeen beat Quick with a wrist shot from the left circle.
Parse in, Harrold out
The Kings will make one lineup change tonight, with Scott Parse replacing Peter Harrold.
Going back to Quick
Jonathan Quick is expected to start in goal tonight against St. Louis, one night after he gave up three goals on 16 shots and got pulled late in the first period in favor of Erik Ersberg. Quick certainly didn’t get a lot of help, as he had to help kill penalties and had a teammate [...]
In praise of Fro
Alexander Frolov’s up-and-down season hit one of its high points Wednesday night, when Frolov played more than 18 minutes and scored the game-tying goal in the final two minutes. By that point, Frolov had been elevated to first-line duties, after starting the game with Jeff Halpern and Peter Harrold. As previously posted, Terry Murray said [...]
Murray pleased with defense
Matt Greene is expected to miss a second consecutive game tonight with his “upper-body injury,” and Terry Murray indicated that he will stay with his same defensive unit. Last night, the Kings started the game with pairs of Scuderi-Doughty, Johnson-O’Donnell and Jones-Drewiske, but later in the game, he flipped things and went with Jones-Doughty, Johnson-O’Donnell [...]
Tonight’s game story (March 24)
Here’s my LAKings.com game story for the Colorado game, with stats and video included. Thanks for reading! Avalanche beat Kings 4-3 in shootout (It actually was posted last night on the website…technical difficulties, I suppose!)
A second look?
For what it’s worth, the Kings were not happy with a few of the penalty calls last night. Replay seemed to indicate that on Brad Richardson’s double-minor high-sticking penalty, his stick was lifted clear off the ice by Colorado’s Kyle Quincey. There was also some chatter about the first-period roughing call on Jack Johnson. It [...]
Greene likely out again
After today’s team meeting, Terry Murray said Matt Greene likely would not play tonight and that the defensive unit would stay intact. Murray said Greene needs a couple more days to.recover from his “upper-body injury.” Murray said he had not yet decided whether to make any changes at forward, and said all skaters would participate [...]
No goal change
After an NHL review, credit for the Kings’ first goal will NOT be changed. Video review appeared to show Brad Richardson redirecting the shot, but the NHL deemed it “inconclusive.” Anze Kopitar gets the goal, so congrats to him (again) for setting a career high with his 33rd goal. For the record, team management, not [...]
Stat-geek morning
For those of us who like to go inside the numbers… Drew Doughty played a team-high 29 minutes, 18 seconds last night. Ryan Smyth led all forwards at 20:23 and had a team-high five shots on goal. Anze Kopitar played 20:21 and Alexander Frolov played 18:14 and, by the end of the third period, was [...]
Kopitar postgame quotes
Anze Kopitar’s postgame thoughts… (on the rally after the rough start…) KOPITAR: “Well, we were down two goals, but all we gave up was power-play chances. Five-on-five, I thought we didn’t give up a whole lot. We got into penalty trouble and they buried two. The first one was kind of lucky, and the second [...]
Ersberg postgame quotes
Erik Ersberg’s postgame thoughts… (on his game…) ERSBERG: “I felt good right from the start. We picked up the game, too, after the first period, so that helped a lot also. It was good to get away with one point, at least. Obviously, we wanted two.” (on the shootout…) ERSBERG: “The first goal, I kind [...]
Murray postgame quotes
Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts… (on getting one point from the game…) MURRAY: “At this time of the year, you have to take in the big picture, the whole game. It’s a great point. It’s great to come back, and that’s what you have to be able to do, to battle back and at least give [...]
