Tonight’s scratches/Bernier

For the defense…

As previously posted, Randy Jones is expected to go back into the Kings’ lineup tonight in place of Peter Harrold, after Jones missed Monday’s game with an elbow injury. MURRAY: “Randy Jones is ready to go. He feels good. He feels strong and has the mobility and the flexibility in his arm to do the [...]

`Get out of here’

Perhaps you heard, but the Kings failed on a 5-on-3 advantage last night. It’s been a pretty well-kept secret… Last night, Terry Murray’s comments on the power play were mostly compliments toward the Wild’s penalty killers, but today he gave a more detailed breakdown on what he feels has been going wrong with the Kings’ [...]

`Inner arrogance’

After today’s morning skate, Terry Murray was asked what his message was to the team today. There is plenty of subtext to today’s game, with the ever-tight playoff race, the Kings’ four-game winless streak and their seven-game winless streak against the Nashville Predators. The Kings held a morning skate today, which isn’t typical before the [...]

Reunited, Part 3

For the third time this month, Terry Murray likely will go back to a first line of Ryan Smyth, Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams tonight. He tried it in the middle of the month, when Williams returned from his broken leg, and went away from it about a week later. He tried it last week [...]

Tuesday morning skate

Terry Murray wasn’t ready to announce his complete lineup for tonight, but did say that he would reunite the top line of Ryan Smyth, Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams, and that Randy Jones will replace Peter Harrold. More to come from the skate, including thoughts on what went wrong on the 5-on-3 and Murray’s message [...]

Anatomy of a power play

If you believe in the concept of momentum, it’s pretty clear that the Kings lost it, and Minnesota gained it, early in the third period last night after the Kings failed to score on their two-minute, 5-on-3 power play. Here’s exactly how that power play went, with two shots on goal, four missed shots and [...]

Murray postgame quotes

Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts… (on the failed 5-on-3…) MURRAY: “They did a great job with it. You’ve got to give those guys a lot of credit for their penalty kill, but on the other side of it, when you have a 5-on-3, that’s a critical moment in the game, and that’s when you have to [...]

Brown postgame quotes

Dustin Brown’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) BROWN: “This game was a lot different from the last three, I think. We had a lot of opportunities. Our special teams need to be better, that’s for sure, both power play and penalty kill. We have two 5-on-3s and we don’t capitalize. It’s all about results, this [...]

FINAL: Wild 3, Kings 2

The Kings drop to 0-3-1 in their last four games and now get ready to face a Nashville team that has beaten them in seven consecutive games. The Kings remain in seventh place in the West, one point ahead of Colorado with an equal number of games, and five points ahead of Calgary with one [...]

Wild 3, Kings 2

After the Kings failed with a full two minutes of a 5-on-3 advantage, the Wild scored a power-play goal 7:38 into the third period. Martin Havlat went for a long-range slap shot and beat Quick high, with Andrew Brunette running traffic directly in front of the net.

Kings 2, Wild 2

The Kings tied the game 1:25 into the third period on Parse’s second goal of the game. Richardson dug the puck out of the corner, in the Minnesota zone, and fed it to Parse, whose one-time slap shot from the top of the right circle beat Backstrom.

End of second: Wild 2-1

Shots were 12-8 Kings in that period, but goals were 2-1 Minnesota. Minnesota is 20-1-2 when leading after two periods this season.

Wild 2, Kings 1

The Kings pulled within one goal on Scott Parse’s goal with 7:13 remaining in the second period. Parse shot through traffic and benefited from a deflection, off the stick of Casey Wellman, that fooled Backstrom. Jack Johnson and Brad Richardson got assists.

Wild 2, Kings 0

Minnesota took a 2-0 lead with a 4-on-4 goal 7:26 into the second period. Brent Burns took the puck at the Kings’ blue line, put a move on Brad Richardson and went to the net to beat Quick from close range.

Wild 1, Kings 0

On the game’s first power play, Minnesota’s Andrew Ebbett tried a long-range wrist shot, and the rebound came out to Owen Nolan in the slot. Nolan scored at the 1:19 mark of the second period.

End of first: 0-0

The Kings outshot the Wild 6-5 in a scoreless first period that also had no penalties. The best chance of the period came with 4:15 remaining when, after a scramble in front of the Minnesota net, and goalie Niklas Backstrom prone on the ice, Jarret Stoll shot from a sharp angle and shot over the [...]
