The Kings have 90 points, with eight games remaining (road against Minnesota, Nashville, Anaheim and Colorado, home against Vancouver, Anaheim, Edmonton and Phoenix). An 8-0 finish would give them a maximum of 106 points. Looking at the rest of the schedule, how do you think they will end up?
98 points, 7th seed

Boy, two weeks ago, I could have picked one of those feeling much more confident than I can today. It seems any spot on the dart board is open, after the last few games. Here’s to hoping they turn it around, but other than bad special teams in the most recent game, I’m not hearing a lot of specific analysis and/or corrections.

Kings were all over Dallas in the first period, then the stupid penalties, and yet another goal put into our own net. Clearly the Kings are in a slump, better now though than in two weeks. Time to start building it back up. Brown seems to be overreacting a bit in his comments, but then again he was the one that was bloodied and beat on the entire game – he could have used his teammates to stand up with him. That needs to change. I say 4-2-2 over the last 8.

The only thing that can save us now is another Williams injury
Kings have 42 Wins!
Of those 42 wins, Williams has been in the line up for only 22 of those wins. So he has been there 52% of the wins.
Kings have 26 Loses….Of those 26 loses Williams has been in the line up for 19 of them.
So he has be there for 73% of the loses
So for a man who is responsible for 52% wins on the ream and 73% loses. Don’t you think he is not as VALUABLE as everyone here seems to think he is. I’ve been on his case since day one. and I think the numbers speak for themselves! You don’t notice these things but I do. I was loving it when Williams was out because Kings were dominating without caring that dead weight around on the ice.
OH YAH and does everyone seem to forget that EVERYONE was happy we got Williams cause he was a 30 plus goal scorer and I said NOOOOOO those days are long gone and we’ll be lucky if we get 10 goals out of him and a full season.
We need to get rid of this Coach’s mentality that he is in love with certain players ie. JONES, WILLIAMS, QUICK, BROWN. Don’t get me wrong I love Quick but give the boy some rest. As for Williams and Jones, they should be in Manchester to tell you the truth. No other team in the NHL would put up with Williams contract and bull crap play on the ice. Brown needs to be a healthy scratch.
Finally, Murray needs to go…DL needs to pull out a LOU. This team is carrying the dead weight of Jones and Williams and this team is sooooo much better without them. We’ve been stinking it up since WIlliams return. It SUCKS! Williams SUCKS!

@WWAMD, your picking on the wrong player. Williams was arguably our best player last night with four shots on goal (second most), lots of puck possession time and many nice dishes to Kopi. This is the best he has looked since his 12/26 injury. He has had three solid games in a row now.
I agree about Quick, the guy needs a game or two off. I’m not sure why Terry insists on pushing him to the brink of exhaustion leading up to the playoffs.
Jones? Well ya, he is a weak link defensively. But unfortunately we are short on D-men who can move/shot the puck.
What I wanna know is why Halpern got more ice time than Richardson and Simmonds. The guy has zero points in 11 games. Besides being a vet, what else does he bring to the table? I’d much rather see Moller center the 4th line, despite his size he finishes his checks.
I know it’s really easy to make Terry the scape goat, and overall I’ve been pleased with the job he has done. But the guy has a tendency to get stuck on certain players and certain lines, and can’t see what may be obvious to many of us.

Seems to be the style. Like Jones and Purcell they seemed determined to give Halperin a fair shake.
I didn’t mind the 4th line with Richardson. For Simmonds its hard to get 4th line time and harder yet when he is in the box all game.

@thrustable, thats a HUGE step to take, I think Brown has been playing lackluster hockey as of this year and the last. However, ripping the C towards the end of the season can cause some negative feelings in the locker room.
I believe that the coach should talk to Brown at the end of the season, set him aside and ask…Do you think the C has affected your game. Are you willing to pass it to someone who has better leadership qualities. Just remind Brown that he is a great LEADER and a great PLAYER, but someone people can only take on one role at a time and remind Brown that he’s better as a player then a leader. Maybe tell him that taking the C will let some pressure off his game and will allow him to play a better game overall. I believe a conversation like that will help the whole team in general, instead of making waves and ripping Brown of the C during the season.

I would love to see Deano behind the bench in his patented track suit. Lol.
If this team can’t get motivated to show up and take points from teams that are long out of the playoff race, how are they going to get anywhere near 100 points with that schedule remaining? Aint gonna happen. This team is more fragile and vulnerable than Marie Osmond at this point. And the whole league knows it. Calgary beat the Caps today and something tells me that Anaheim delivers the deathblow in a week. God, I hope I am wrong.
[Reply]
It is what it is. Call it jitters, inexperience, lack of commitment, fright, or something else, we are going to get in. Once that happens, the old cliche “the playoffs are a new season entirely” holds. With the “getting in” pressures removed, the Kings are capable of winning games. They have shown that in the past. Lets hope, huh? They may suprise some people.

Unless we get hot in the next 2 weeks…sadly, I see us out in 4 or 5 games in 1st round. Then all the bandwagon NHL scribes who were drooling over Doughty & JJ in mid February will ask, “what happened? Kings were so good before the Olympics.”
This team has solid talent. But they are their own worst enemy.

I can see the Kings winning 4 or 5 of the final eight games. Hopefully, they will play like they did against Colorado last week and pick up some points. In my opinion, Johnson has been a huge disappointment since the Olympic break. We clearly need another defensemen, and losing Greene for a few games didn’t help. Justin Williams is trying, but isn’t there yet. Simmonds doesn’t look as good as he did earlier this season either. Does Ersberg get a start tomorrow or Tues.?

our record down the stretch in recent years…:
02-03…5-12 in last 17
03-04 (pre-lockout)…lost the last 11 in a row…12 out of 13…(!)
05-06…6-11 in last 17
06-07…2-7 in last 9
07-08…7-15 in last 22
08-09…8-14 in last 22
we need to get motivated by our history if there’s nothing else left to get angry about…in a season where so much improvement has been duly praised, it will be nice to see if the kings can end the season on a higher note than years’ past…something that should be achieved…

More than the team itself, this is the time TM show what he is really made of? Phil Jackson is been known when his team is having problems, lets them work through it and figure it out on their own. His record and history shows he knows what he is doing. TM needs to learn from that and stop messing with the chemistry and stick to certain lines and commit to it and let them work through it whether by players meeting or whatever. This is not a time of the season to work on X and O’s. This is the time of the season to show true leadership and maturity for a young core. I am not blaming all on TM, but if we have to put finger on one issue for recent slump, TM’s choice of changing lines every other game and his inconsistency on his decision makings,is a big part of it.

I am very happy that most of you have faith in this club. I have lost almost all. With how the Kings are playing against soft and tough opponents, I can’t see them winning another game. I am hoping that I am 100% wrong.
Losing to teams like St. Louis and Dallas and all of the playoff teams ahead of them seems to have me thinking the run is done. When they were 29-29 on the PK they still were not winning games. I hope Calgary pushes them until the last game so we can see what this team is made of.
I really do think that they are no longer responding to TM’s coaching. At least win one for the fans.

And WWAMD, your formula works with just about every player on the Kings, yet you chose Williams, why’s that?. Still sore Patty O got traded? Try your formula with Quick and see what the results are.
“No other team in the NHL would put up with Williams contract and bull crap play on the ice. Brown needs to be a healthy scratch.”
I’m sure that would work with Brown…sigh. And what bull crap play on the ice is Williams doing? He had a serious broken leg, has returned well before anyone ever thought, yet you dog the guy because he hasn’t lit up the league since returning. This is almost impossible to predict. Young teams like this are amazingly streaky. Things can go well and all of a sudden the wheels come off and everything goes to pot for a few games (thankfully there have not been extended losing streaks). Then all of a sudden they will start stringing together wins and look like world beaters. As they get older and begin dealing with these situations more and more I believe these kinks will work themselves out.
I just went with the assumption they will continue playing .500 hockey so I picked 98 points.
