Dustin Brown’s postgame thoughts…
(on not “backing in” to the playoffs…)
BROWN: “I think it’s important for us, as a team, not to worry about it. You look at the standings every day, but ultimately it comes down to how you play the game. It should be irrelevant whether Detroit or Calgary or any other team wins. We have to take care of our own business. We have games in hand, and we’re sitting above, all the teams that are right behind us. We just need to be focused on our game. We showed spurts of being a great team tonight. We need to show that consistency.”
(on the game…)
BROWN: “I thought we were decent in the first period. One breakdown, a 2-on-1. We came out of the period down 1-0, and it wasn’t a great period but we didn’t give them very much. They had one opportunity and they capitalized. They just seemed to have timely goals. They got a goal pretty early in the second. After that goal, it was pretty tight checking, and then in the third period we were all over them. Six minutes left, I like our chances, even being down 2-1, but that one goal was kind of a back-breaker.”
1 for 6 on the PP. The club did not execute when it mattered most. Nuff said.
Go Kings!

@LBlocal, Do you realize one-for-six is about two or three percent below average on the power play? Put it this way. If they were one-for-five, they’d be above-average. Really, you can’t blame the power play, which has been way above average lately, for the game.

That said, the one that hurt was the two-man advantage they blew. Scoring would have changed the outlook of the game, and not scoring it probably did too.

The Kings are fine, they are playing like they should be at this point of the season.

Rich thanks for coming over and talking with the group of LGK fans in front of the hotel where the team was staying in Denver.Just a classy guy all around. And to the player’s who took time to sign some autographs for us class act on their part. “GO” “KINGS”

Brown is correct! Kings need to worry about playing their own game, and not Detroit, or anyone else. Let’s forget this game and focus on sweeping Dallas for the season on Sat. night.

@Hockey SureShot,
Don’t worry about Detroit they will be in the top six by the end of the season. If you are going to worry, worry about Calgary making a run into 8th while the Kings drop to 9th.
I am tired of forgetting about games like Nashville, Montreal, Colorado, Edmonton, Chicago, I would like to remember some of the games also that they played well in like the Colorado game just before the Olympic Break when the Kings were a solid good team.

@Hockey SureShot,
Yes! I really expected the Kings to come out and dominate against St.Louis.Dallas will be another chance for this team to finally take the bull by the horns.Hopefully they seize the oppertunity this time.9 games to go,and the Kings are still doing things the tuffest way possible.
Teaching a young team is hard when your team wants to learn there lessons the hard way.

Terry Murray needs to stop using the term “desperation” and replace it with “mean” because that’s what the kings are lacking. While Detroit, Nashville, Pheonix, and Chicago are started to brew their playoff chemistry we look like we’re falling apart. Tonight was pathetic, and I blame Terry Murray. He should have benched Quick for what happened last night and put Ersberg in tonight. We need to get mean and start playing for our playoff lives.

@McSorelyFan, Why should he bench Quick for goals put into his net by Drew Doughty and Jack Johnson?

I’m not sure brown is the right guy as the captain. He needs to be lighting fires under his teamates instead of being this lead by example type. We need a take charge kind of guy…someone not so soft spoken! He needs to give the “C” to someone else

@Abo,
Just because you dont have a letter on your jersey doesnt mean you cant speak.
And by your logic, should we replace TM for usually always keeping his cool?

Reality check! These guys check the stats when they are in Jr’s and minors and they are going to check stats and standing in the PROS! How about that! you have to be aware of whats going on around the league from the beginning of the season to the end, and 4 everyone to say ” oh dont worry about the other teams and whats going on” is a load of crap! What the Kings should be doing is watching footage of their pre-olympic gameplay and try to fine tune there game to the way it was then, and not now! now is not working, beating the NY Islanders 1-0 is a disgrace to the KINGS! We are a winning orginization this year and we were looking so good. We have great players Simmonds is awesome, Brown is great, Johnson got the sickest moves, Handzus is great , Frolov is great, the list goes on,,,, Daughty is ripping it up…. GO KINGS GO…. LETS DO THIS …. LETS GET TO THE PLAYOFFS, THEN ITS 1 STEP AT A TIME!

@Zack R., The question is, Are we the type of team that flips a switch and plays outta its mind in the playoffs? Or are we gonna be like this?
[Reply]
I’ve been saying the exact same thing as Brown. We should not be worried about what’s going on with the teams behind us, praying and hoping that they will lose. The Kings need to win, get a streak going and March into the playoffs with determination, not hold on for dear life while Calgary catches up (if they do).
If the Kings simply hold on and finish 7th or 8th, I doubt very much they will be making any noise in the playoffs.
And, Quick is either mentally fatigued or physically, or both. THe most common refutiation of this is by other posting that Brodeur and a couple of others are playing many games also. But as far as I know they are mostly proven veterans who know how to handle it. I’m not sure Quick does, though he has been more than adequate, until lately.
