Terry Murray said Jonathan Quick will start in goal tomorrow, even though Murray had some criticism for Quick’s first-period play.
In general, the Kings took the attitude that it was positive to rally from two goals and get a point on the road. Murray singled out Alexander Frolov, in particular, for his strong third-period play.
More to come after the long drive to the airport…
Frolov was great. Hope he plays that way throughout the playoffs.

@Todd M., I almost thing TM is pushing Fro’s buttons. I didn’t notice any real bad shifts but suddenly he’s in the doghouse, centering the 4th line and getting 10 min. Next game we see Fro play like he did today.

Ersberg deserves a start, he was pretty solid tonight. Give him some confidence going into the playoffs.

@BritKing, I agree. Give EE the start tomorrow. If TM has so many questions about Quick’s play, give him a game to sit and think about it. Now’s not the time to get all mental. Quick needs his head straight. It won’t get any easier from here on out.

@Nitrohockey, Quick has to get the next start, his confidence is the one that has to be restored. He’s our #1 goalie, and has to play as a #1 in the playoffs.

@c-nut, Yea, I agree. Get Quick his start, pat him on the back when he plays well, THEN give EE a start and Quick a day off…
forget the interviews, just get on the plane.

TM I am betting pulled Quick cause thought the game was lost and he wanted to rest him for the game Thurs eve

@backchecker, Sometimes pulling a goalie is the slap in the face the players need to turn it around. I think it worked.

hmmm i wouldn’t be too critical of Quick’s play…

@McDonalds, Agreed…one goal off of JJ’s skate, another off of Doughty’s, and another where he probably didn’t even know Stoll had lost his stick (although he was slow in moving over).

I completely agree – wait until Murray takes a look at the game tape, he will see that it was not in any way Quick’s fault tonight.

How can TM — or anyone, for that matter — criticize Quick’s play? What did you want him to do, slice the feet off his D-men so the puck wouldn’t deflect in off them?

@sasKing, I don’t think it’s the goals he’s questioning, but other aspects of his play. the recent mishandling of pucks, and he’s had recent moments were he seemed a bit indecisive and out of position. Maybe it’s just TM splitting hairs, but I want that minute attention to detail going into the playoffs. Everything has to be scrutinized and made sure it’s ready.

@Nitrohockey, Gotta agree….Quickie is our No. 1 but lets be frank….he hasn’t been himself since the break. Maybe a pulling and a definite must win in STL will wake him up. Nice job by Iceberg!

@Moondoggie, I think TM was troubled by a nasty rebound that Quicker gave up in the slot. But I also think he saw him face a lotta rubber in the first period, might have thought the game was lost, and figured he should rest him for tomorrow.
EE did a terrific job coming off the bench after so much time warming it. Shoot-out losses are chickenshit. It’s great to get the extra point, but they’re not real “victories” for the winning team. The way we got the bonus point on Monday is the real deal.
Over all, this was one of those unlucky games, with bad deflections and tough calls by the ref. I’m happy to get this point. And to get it in a way that flattened the Avs — with short time left on the clock.
But unlike us on Monday, tonight Colorado disappeared in OT. They must be thanking their lucky stars they made it to the shoot-out.
No doubt. Fro was a stud. The team was a monster in the third and you could see it in the Avalanche players faces, they couldn’t stop that freight train. Let’s not forget the Kings had all kinds of chances to end it in OT. (which they dominated as well)

We need Bernier or Kings will be indanger not making the playoffs, Quick can be great sometimes but he always allow stoppable goals. Bernier is the man for kings to make the playoffs, he’s more control around the crease and doesn’t allow soft goal. We need him now because most teams who are in the playoffs are keep winning, Bernier give us more confidence because of his fundamental around the crease. BRING BERNIER to play against PREDS, HAWKS, Vancouver and Colorado.

@erwin, we are the 7th best team in the league as we are. Do you think putting in a goalie with no experience would be an improvement?

@erwin,
Give it a break.None of the goals tonight were Quicks fault, and don’t start spouting off about rebound control. If you can’t figure out why Bernier is in Manchester than your either extremely dense,or just have a problem with your vision(or lack there of).

@erwin,
It’s okay to be a Bernier supporter but you’re speaking with your heart, not your head. Forget about whether it would be fair to Quick or not to switch goalies at this late date, it wouldn’t be fair to Bernier. But all of this is just talk, if Bernier EVER replaces Quick one thing is for sure, it won’t be THIS season.
[Reply]
Don’t think 2 of those goals were Quick’s “fault”
Bringing up Bernier to be the starting goaltender at this point in the season would be silly. Have to go with the guy that got you here…

Took the family up to CO for Spring Break to see this one. Arena was fairly empty. Got to tell you, the crowd was quiet. I would like to think it was because the Kings didn’t let the Avs play their game. Let’s be real here, they scored two fluke goals in the first and we hit two posts in the second. The Kings played a great road game. Aside from the two “own goals,”the defense and goaltending were great. I will gladly take the point, but I can’t help but feeling that we left one at The Can.
[Reply]
I believe Quicker was pulled just to change up things, TM obviously saw something there he didn’t like and those 2 goals kicked in by our guys weren’t Quick’s fault. EE played great I thought considering the long layoff and coming in cold. The team will be fine, I can always accept a loss as long as we gave a great effort. Just out of curiosity, I wonder if you can put Quick back in for the shootout. Not that I would, but does anyone know?

@Goring 19, I believe it is permissible to put a pulled goaltender back in. Don’t take my word for it though. Remember: The Kings did it in the Miracle on Manchester.

It’s completely idiotic to put bad defense in front of the net on Quick.
[Reply]
I love you who say put Bernier in net. Quick has great numbers and has won games for us all year.. Its just been unlucky goals of late. Bernier has proven himself in one NHL game.. Dont be a scrub, its almost playoff time.. They should start Quick tonite to get his confidence back up before playoffs.. St louis has the worst home record in the league, so look for kings to have a positive game..
I do like Bernier but he still has time to develop. Quick has almost the most wins out of any goalie… So he’s a winner.. The seasons not over…
Kings play is the problem..They need to relax while still playing physical… When they play physical they usually come out on top..

I agree Frolov had a strong game and should not be on the 4th line for the rest of the season, I feel bad for thr guy for being in the doghouse 24/7.
