Ryan Smyth’s postgame thoughts…
(on the win…)
SMYTH: “This is a big two points. They battled hard right until the end, and they capitalized with six seconds left. We capitalized on our power play, which was big tonight. I thought special teams were the difference tonight.
“All around, it was a good team win. It’s a dogfight, right to the end, for the playoff positions, and tonight we played desperate and wanted to win. I am sure we will look at it again and critique a couple of things. By in large, it was a good effort for the team. … It is gut-check time now, and it is important that we fight through adversity. Whether you are behind a goal or up a goal, you’ve got to come to play. This is the fun time of the year. We want to make it to the postseason and we will see what happens from here.”
Great game! I was really rooting for the Ryan Smyth hat trick… went completely nuts on the pass from Doughty.

@MR King,
sure woulda been sweet if Smyth had gotten a trick. altogether tho, thats how you want to see a player answer back when they are dropped down from 1st to 4th line! for as long as Smyth was a thorn in our side when playin for EDM and COL, sure was nice to see him torture his former team.

He got really close to a hat trick about four times…one where he missed by a few inches.

I would have loved if someone asked him how much Doughty’s shot missed him by. It couldn’t have been much.
I play and I can’t imagine nor flinching when a bullet like that comes at you rib-cage high.

@ViperHockey, RS has made a career of standing in front of goalies and having teammates shoot at him. I even noticed that as pregame warm-ups were coming to an end, Smyth was out with Richardson and he had Richardson shooting at the net while he stood in front of the net working on deflections. A true professional honing his craft.

Smyth almost had a goal for the hattrick before Colorado scored. Remember the shot that came thru the crease and he couldn’t get his stick on. The whole side of the net was open….
Smythy, Great game!!

@King John,
Truely, the best trade since Gretzky.
Smith for a waiver pickup KQ, and an overpaid AHL domotion Tom Priessing.
