Doughty postgame quotes

Drew Doughty’s postgame thoughts…

(on getting two points after giving up the late goal…)
DOUGHTY: “Obviously it was pretty disappointing. We can’t be letting those goals in late in the game like that. The last minute of periods are very important, and especially the third period. So getting that win was huge, but a little disappointing that we gave them that point.”

(on the overtime power-play goal…)
DOUGHTY: “It was huge. Our power play, this year, has been good 5-on-4, but 5-on-3 and 4-on-3 we’ve been struggling for some reason. We knew it was our chance to shine, and we needed to get that goal. We drew up a play on the board, and we scored before we had to do the play, but it was important to get that timeout and be re-energized. … It was, shoot the puck, have a good screen in front, and hopefully the puck will go in.”

@jet, actually, it didn’t. it hit the support in the back of the net. (I wondered too, and watched the FoxMo in slowmo on my DVR, which actually comes in handy.)

@steve jensen, actually, replay shows it went UNDER the crossbar and hit the support in the back of the net–the trajectory didn’t change at all until it was in back.

Great shot Dewey!!! And yes, we can start talking about it…..The Norris…..If Doughty isn’t a STRONG candidate, well who else is there who has played D on both sides of the puck as well as Dewey has this year?

GO KINGS! Let’s beat the Avs again Wednesday!!!

@Moondoggie, Those bias east coasters are all in love with Mike Green. What a shame! Doughty schools him in ALL aspects of the game!

@Deadmarsh, I think Dewey has a real solid chance for getting it, he’s been a beast the entire season, simply an amazing guy.

@Deadmarsh, Mike Green won’t win until he actually learns he’s a defenseman.

Duncan Keith has the inside track.

    @MrBrett7,

    I think you’re mostly right.

I do think Drew could pull it off still as he is a steller player on a team not as good as the blackhawks.

I’m going to say Drew has overall better abilities on both ends than anyone on that list.

    Stephen Reply:

@Deadmarsh, Duncan Keith is still just ahead of Doughty in most people’s eyes and is the clubhouse favourite, especially if the Hawks win the West. More points, similar TOI, better team.

Doughty’s certainly top three, but it’s a good year for D, even with Lidstrom having an off-year. Shea Weber’s just as good, although his points numbers aren’t up there with the others, and Pronger has had an excellent second half.

Mike Green is talked up by the borderline-crazy [and largely hockey-ignorant] Caps fans, but everyone in the Canadian media poked enough holes in his game around the time of the Olympic selection that if he was a boat, he’d be below water. He won’t win.

Who would you rather have Doughty or Mike Green? I know obvious choice.

    Dont forget Keith

    Stephen Reply:

@src, the question’s going to be Keith, Doughty, or Meyers as the NHL’s prototypical franchise defenceman.

Green works well in the Caps’ system, but I doubt he’d be nearly as effective if he was on a team that didn’t have Ovie creating tons of space for him. He’s horrible on defence; Kings fans will get to see his clone up close and personal a lot next year when the Preds add Ryan Ellis, who’s like a more extreme version of Green.

Doughty in all situations. Especially, while we have him young. Grass looks always greener on the other side.

Speaking of the Norris and scoring,

If you can’t score with them, it’s time for the ahl

We have had a tougher time with Nashville and they are hot right now. I want SJ slumping and choking when it matters most with a long history of real short playoff runs.

    kings4queens Reply:

    @luc20rules,

I know this is crazy but I think SJ is losing on purpose so they don’t have to play the Red Wings in the first round:)

    Stephen Reply:

@kings4queens, You’re not the only one to mention that. Heck, even Sharks fans think that.

Kings can take the Sharks in a best-of-seven, since Nabby’s been in meltdown mode since Canada slaughtered him at the Olympics.

Drew deserve the Norris this year and he will get it . Quick keeps letting those last minute goals and that will make our team in a bad spot. Bernier needs to come back and be the guard between the pipes, bernier this guy is for real always in better position and doesn’t over commit.

  15. Hat Trick says:

Back in 1967, after Harry Howell won the Norris (before he was on the KINGS), he said that after this year the trophy will belong to one player for a long time (Bobby Orr 1968-1975)……………could it be?

  16. Pumpernicholl says:

The award is Keith’s to lose, but for Doughty even to be in the 3 Norris finalists that they pick from is incredible at his age. I predict Keith, Doughty & Pronger as the 3 finalists.

BTW It’s nice how when Doughty talks about the OT goal, it’s the goal “we scored” rather than the goal “I scored.”
