Postgame quotes (Feb. 6)
First, my sincere thanks to everyone who has taken the time to express sympathy, today and throughout recent weeks. I’ve had family members and family friends tell me about reading the comments there, and how impressed they are that people share such emotions. It really does mean a lot, so thank you very much. Going [...]
One more day away
For those who don’t know — and many have sent very kind messages and comments — my family suffered a major loss last month, and I’ll be away from work today for a memorial service. Unfortunately, that means being away from a big game today, but I’ll be back afterward to pass along some notes [...]
Good times all around
This falls under the category of “obvious,” but it’s still worth pointing out. The level of fun around the Kings, whether it’s on the ice in practice or in the locker room after practice, has increased significantly this season. There’s more joking around, more chatter, more guys hanging around the facility, and just a general [...]
Changes to come?
As noted earlier, Peter Harrold practiced as a defenseman today, and after practice, Terry Murray indicated that changes would be coming to the Kings’ lineup tomorrow, but said that Davis Drewiske would not be returning to the lineup… MURRAY: “I’ve got to make some changes, for sure. I’m not really sure what I’m going to [...]
You like him, you really like him
I’ve had readers ask, recently, about players’ thoughts about trades/trade rumors. My response has been that, during the heart of a playoff race, I think players pay attention to them far less than fans do. But I thought it would be interesting to ask Wayne Simmonds about it, not only because the Kovalchuk trade just [...]
Anatomy of a third period
What happened in the third period last night, when the Kings let a three-goal lead slip away and to rally with two late goals? In Terry Murray’s view, the Kings lost some aggression when they got the big lead, and today, Murray took some of the responsibility on himself… MURRAY: “I thought we came out [...]
Friday practice update
Michal Handzus had a veteran’s “therapy day,” but the rest of the Kings were on the ice. Terry Murray expressed great dissatisfaction with the Kings’ third period, took some of the blame himself and said that lineup changes would be coming tomorrow. Murray said Daqvis Drewiske isn’t quite ready, from a conditioning standpoint, to play. [...]
Feb. 4 game notes
Some notes from last night’s games, plus a bonus video at the end… – The Kings have tied a franchise record with their eight-game winning streak (also done in 1991-92 and 1972-73). The Kings are also 10-1 in their last 11 games. – Anze Kopitar has an eight-game point streak (seven goals, eight assists), which [...]
Last thoughts on non-trade
For those who are still interested, I’ve been able to piece together most of what went on from the Kings’ side of the Kovalchuk situation. The essential reason that a trade didn’t get done, and never really got close — and basically why I found information so hard to come by in recent days — [...]
Tonight's game story (Feb. 2)
Here’s my game story for tonight, complete with stats and video. Thanks for reading! Kings beat Ducks 6-4
Murray postgame quotes
Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts… (on the wild third period…) MURRAY: “Not good. Not the kind of drama you want, but you win the game. That’s a big division, it’s two points, an important two points. We found a way to come back. We were reeling a little bit when the score got to be 4-3, [...]
Johnson postgame quotes
Jack Johnson’s postgame thoughts… (on the wild game…) JOHNSON: “They’re a great hockey team. You’ve got to give them their due credit. They made some great plays. You’re not going to limit them to zero goals. We gave them more than we’d like to. We had a great lead there and let it slip away [...]
Greene postgame quotes
Matt Greene’s postgame thoughts… (on the winning streak…) GREENE: “It’s been a pretty good run right now. Guys are playing well. It’s not often that you get 10, 15 guys playing their `A’ game all at the same time. It’s pretty spread out. Right now, we’ve got a lot of guys playing at the top [...]
Kopitar postgame quotes
Anze Kopitar’s postgame thoughts… (on the wild third period…) KOPITAR: “It’s definitely not what we want, but at the end of the day, the two points are the most important thing. It doesn’t matter how you get it, but it just shows that we cannot let down, especially not in the third period. We got [...]
FINAL: Kings 6, Ducks 4
Anze Kopitar scored his second goal of the game, on the power play, with 27 seconds remaining. The Kings have matched a franchise record with their eighth consecutive win. Jack Johnson had a career-best four-point night. More from the locker room ASAP…
Kings 5, Ducks 4
Dustin Brown gave the Kings the lead again, with 5:32 remaining. A strong forecheck led to Kopitar picking up the puck to the side of the net. He shot, and the rebound kicked wide left to Brown, who shot into an empty net.
Kings 4, Ducks 4
The Ducks scored their third goal of the period, and tied the game, with Ryan Carter’s goal 9:35 into the third period. A quick centering pass from Todd Marchant found Carter’s stick after Carter beat Randy Jones to the front of the net.
Kings 4, Ducks 3
Just 2:01 after they made it a 4-2 game, the Ducks scored again. Matt Beleskey got wide open in the slot, right in front of the net, and took a pass from Getzlaf from the side of the net and beat Quick, 5:12 into the third period.
Kings 4, Ducks 2
The three-goal lead didn’t last long. Just 1:27 after Johnson’s goal, Troy Bodie took a pass from Ryan Getzlaf and, from the right circle, shot through traffic and beat Quick at the 3:11 mark.
