If you were surprised to see Jarret Stoll lining up on the right side, with Alexander Frolov and Michal Handzus, last night, you weren’t alone. So was I. Stoll, I believe, still ended up taking the most faceoffs, but it certainly gave the Kings a different look, although it didn’t produce any points. Given the [...]
Lombardi, on team development
Here’s the second half of the Dean Lombardi stuff from today, dealing more with the development of the team this season… —– Question: Going into the break, are you happy with where the team is at? LOMBARDI: “I’ve seen them grow immensely. I think you’ve got a room that cares, no question about it. I [...]
Lombardi, on trades, etc.
The Dean Lombardi stuff from today is pretty long — you’re surprised, I know — so I’ll break it into two parts, the first covering trade-deadline issues and the second covering team-development issues. Lombardi spoke just a few minutes after the noon roster freeze took place… Question: Did you come close on anything? LOMBARDI: “No.” [...]
Friday practice update
Jonathan Quick is feeling better and will be back in goal tomorrow night. Jack Johnson, as we know, missed practice to participate in tonight’s Olympic closing ceremony. Get ready for a bunch of quotes from Dean Lombardi, who talked after practice today about the trade deadline and the progress of the team. The Olympic trade [...]
Parse to Manchester
Scott Parse has been assigned to Manchester of the AHL. Otherwise, the Kings are basically skating as they finished last night’s game… Smyth-Kopitar-Brown Frolov-Handzus-Stoll Clune-Richardson-Simmonds Ivanans/Moller/Purcell/Harrold I’ll get Murray’s thoughts on these lines today…
It was suite
Thanks to everyone who joined in the festivities last night with the LAKingsInsider.com suite! It was the highlight of my season, to be able to put faces with names — screen names, that is — and spend some time with you guys and gals who have been so supportive over the years. I would have [...]
Kopitar postgame quotes
Anze Kopitar’s postgame thoughts… (on another poor start…) KOPITAR: “I don’t know what it is with our starts. Obviously if we knew, we’d correct it or do something about it. I think it just comes down to the preparation for the game and just getting ready for the game. Obviously we’re not at the level [...]
Murray postgame quotes
Terry Murray’s postgame thoughts… (on the game…) MURRAY: “We did a better job in the second and the third period. At the start of the game, they came at us pretty good. They played very well in their game in Anaheim. They just brought some of that energy to the first period, and they just [...]

End of regulation: 2-2
The Kings are 10-3 in post-regulation games this season, while the Oilers are 4-6. That includes the Kings’ 8-3 in shootouts and the Oilers’ 4-4 in shootouts.
Kings 2, Oilers 2
The Kings tied the game, with 4:48 remaining, after another point shot and scramble in front of the net. This time, Sean O’Donnell took the shot. Deslauriers thought he had it covered, but Dustin Brown appeared to knock the puck loose, and Ryan Smyth knocked it into the net.
Oilers 2, Kings 1
The Kings got on the board with 8:55 remaining in the third period. Rob Scuderi’s shot from just inside the blue line got through, and after a scramble in front of the Oilers’ net, Dustin Brown knocked the rebound past Jeff Deslauriers.
Oilers 2, Kings 0
Edmonton made it a two-goal lead with a power-play goal 7:47 into the third period. Dustin Penner held the puck just below the left faceoff dot and, with some space in front of him, fired a wrist shot high and past Ersberg.
End of second: Oilers 1-0
The Kings had periods of better play in that period, and outshot the Oilers 14-6, but have had little sustained pressure. The Oilers are 10-2-2 when leading after two periods.
Oilers 1, Kings 0
The Oilers broke a scoreless tie with 6:22 remaining in the second period. Kings defenseman Matt Greene broke his stick in the Kings’ zone, then took Jarret Stoll’s stick. The Kings were unable to clear the zone, and Denis Grebeshkov scored on a long-range shot with Zack Stortini running traffic directly in front of the [...]
End of first: 0-0
A pretty brutal looking, scoreless period for both teams. Shots, fittingly, were 7-7, and neither team scored on two power plays. The Kings will have a 14-second power play near the start of the first period.
Down…and dangerous?

Edmonton has lost 11 consecutive road games. Edmonton has scored two or fewer goals in eight of its last nine games. Edmonton [...]
No chemistry experiments?
The Kings are never, ever mentioned in trade rumors of course — cough — but given that the deadline is practically right around the corner, Terry Murray was asked today about the potential negatives of an in-season trade. Is a team, one that is having success, better off staying intact and not risking changing the [...]
Expectations for Clune (and video)
Rich Clune did a good job in training camp, good enough that — from everything I heard — it was highly likely that he was going to make the opening-night roster before his late-camp groin injury. Here’s what Terry Murray said today about Clune, followed by a video of Clune highlights… Question: What type of [...]
Ersberg's opportunity
It’s time for the monthy Erik Ersberg start! Ersberg had one start in October, November and January, but messed it up by getting two starts in December. For the season, Ersberg has a 2-3 record, a 3.21 goals-against average and an .882 save percentage in seven games, but he was something of a hard-luck loser [...]
