Storr `returns’ to Kings

It’s hard to believe that Jamie Storr is still only 34 years old. After he spent parts of nine seasons with the Kings — he was the backup goalie on the last Kings team to make the playoffs, in 2001-02 — Storr made an NHL stop in Carolina and AHL stops in Lowell, Springfield, Utah [...]

Williams’ comeback

Here’s what Justin Williams said today about his rehabilitation for his broken ankle… —– Question: You haven’t been around the team a lot during your rehab, but I imagine you’ve been working out in the mornings… WILLIAMS: “I’ve definitely been around. I was able to get permission to come over here throughout the break, because [...]

Back on the ice

The big news from today’s practice actually happened before practice, when Justin Williams skated for the first time since breaking his ankle on Dec. 26. Williams said his recovery has been going well, with no setbacks, and that he has a target date in mind for his return, but one he didn’t want to state [...]

Cliche, Clune called up

Rich Clune is back with the Kings today, and he has been joined by Marc-Andre Cliche. I’m not certain, at the moment, whether Cliche is just here for practice time or whether he will stay next week. Bonus points if you can guess who is filling in as the second goalie. Hint: It’s a former [...]

Technical advances/difficulties

The good news is that this blog has now been switched over to a stronger server. You shouldn’t notice any difference — other than, hopefully, that we won’t have any outages like we had a few weeks ago — but it’s definitely a good move for me. On the negative side, due to Internet issues [...]

Questions for Brown?

Southwest Airlines willing, I will be back in Los Angeles in a couple hours, and I’m scheduled to do a video chat with Dustin Brown from Vancouver. Do you have any questions for him? Previous Brown chats — posted here — have covered the early parts of Brown’s Olympic experience, but since then he has [...]

USA vs. Canada

It’s a big day in Vancouver, as the United States faces Canada at 4:40 p.m. Pacific time. Other games are Russia vs. Czech Republic at noon and Sweden vs. Finland at 9 p.m. Today is the final day of preliminary-round play. The top four teams earn a bye to the quarterfinals, and if play was [...]

Brown video chat 2

Dustin Brown is back for a second video chat from Vancouver, with Jim Fox. Check it out below. Is everyone gearing up for the USA-Canada game today?

Today in Vancouver (Feb. 19)

Following yesterday’s thrilling men’s hockey games — Canada beat Switzerland and Slovakia beat Russia in shootouts by scores of 2-1, and the United States beat Norway 6-1 — it’s a lighter day today. It’s Belarus vs. Sweden at noon, Czech Republic vs. Latvia at 4:30 p.m. and Finland vs. Germany at 9 p.m. On the [...]

Morning reading

Before Slovakia’s big 2-1 shootout victory over Russia last night, Michal Handzus did an interview with LAKings.com… Handzus Q&A Heidi Androl is also in Vancouver and has blogged about her experiences so far… Heidi’s blog Finally, the Wall Street Journal today did a piece of the U.S. hockey team, which includes a quote from Jack [...]

Where are they?

Where are some of the Kings spending the Olympic break? Sean O’Donnell planned a trip to Hawaii, while Oscar Moller was going to stay home in Southern California and take care of his and his roommates’ Labrador puppy. Terry Murray was on his way back to the New England area to visit his daughters. There [...]

I’m happy to (finally) announce that there is a Facebook page for the LAKingsInsider.com blog, so please sign up and join the community! The blog should feed there as well — albeit on a slight delay — and you can also post pictures… LAKingsInsider.com Facebook page

Today in Vancouver (Feb. 18)

On the men’s ice hockey side, it’s a big day as the United States plays Norway at noon, Canada plays Switzerland at 4:30 p.m. and Slovakia plays Russia at 9 p.m. Last night, Slovakia lost 3-1 to the Czech Republic last night, and Michal Handzus had one shot on goal. And don’t forget the curling [...]

Olympic videos

For those who weren’t there — I’m not certain if it was on TV or not — I’ll embed below the video of the Olympic “sendoff” ceremony after Saturday’s Kings-Avalanche game. There are other videos at Kings Vision and more Olympic coverage at lakings.com/olympics.

The Johnson booing

There was a question about why Jack Johnson was being booed by a portion of the crowd in Vancouver. It goes back to the 2006 World Juniors in Vancouver, when Johnson elbowed Canada’s Steve Downie after an empty-net goal. I recently saw one account that described it as Johnson “viciously” elbowing Downie. Now, was it [...]

Wins for USA, Canada

Here’s a recap of yesterday’s games… USA 3, Switzerland 1: Dustin Brown played 13:27 and did not record any points or shots and had an even rating. Jack Johnson played 16:56 and was plus-1. Jonathan Quick did not play. David Backes, Ryan Malone and Bobby Ryan had goals for USA, and Ryan Miller stopped 14 [...]

Today in Vancouver (Feb. 16)

The men’s Olympic hockey tournament gets underway today, with the United States facing Switzerland (noon), Canada facing Norway (4:30 p.m.) and Russia facing Latvia (9 p.m.). In even more exciting news, the curling tournaments start today. Does Great Britain really have a chance to knock off Canada? How about the surprising Chinese women?

Good break or bad break?

It’s hard to know what to make of this 16-day break for the Kings, and in all reality, we won’t know until at least a week after it ends. On the positive side, it’s never a bad thing for players to get a rest during the season, particularly with a tough playoff stretch run upcoming. [...]

Olympics: Who will win?

A couple things… One, if the blog goes down at some point today, it’s scheduled. A server change is in store to deal with heavier traffic, etc., so there might be a brief outage today. Since it’s the day before the Olympic tournament, and I’ll be traveling for most of the day, the timing is [...]
