Parse to Manchester

Scott Parse has been assigned to Manchester of the AHL. Otherwise, the Kings are basically skating as they finished last night’s game…

Smyth-Kopitar-Brown
Frolov-Handzus-Stoll
Clune-Richardson-Simmonds
Ivanans/Moller/Purcell/Harrold

I’ll get Murray’s thoughts on these lines today…

This line swapping is frustrating. Why can’t we stick with what worked for 9 games?

  5. variable says:

    apparently…

whitney will not be moved until after the olympics…so if the kings have offered (?) to make it a two-year extension for him, (which i think is wrong to do), all the “legit” reports indicate that it will take place just before or on the march 3 deadline…

  6. Doughty_Franchise says:

I liked what I saw from Clune. Seems like a DL type of player. Parse had a good start to this season. But absolutely deserves to be sent down. Im still not sure about the breaking up of Kopi and Simmonds on thae top line though

    [Reply]

  7. Dan H. says:

Not a fan of Stoll on that line btw. Much rather see someone like Moller to back off the defense with speed and give Fro and Zeus some room to work.

    [Reply]

  8. Cynic says:

You could see from last night that Parse was in the doghouse with Murray from the first shift. Clune took his spot during the second shift of his line with Simmer and Richie. Pretty quick hook for Scotty. He’ll be back.

He BETTER be back. Parsey has some really decent skills and has done WAY more than Purcell has for us this year.

Whacky lines. Why Stoll and Handzus together? Why Kopitar andd Brown together. Smyth-Anze-Simmonds, Stoll-Brown-Richardson, Clune-Handzus-Frolov. Done.

  11. WWAMD says:

    MR King…

because that would make too much sense. Murray isn’t about making sense, he’s about making statements….No he needs to bench Frolov and put Ivanans in the shootout.

Im surprised no one discussed the horrible shootout players Murray chose last night…Richardson? Simmonds should have been top 5 for sure. Handzus should have been top 5. He has 60% success rate going in. Both those guys scored. Stoll? come on…STOLL? Just by looking at Stoll I know something is not right with him, there is some sort of issue here, he’s growing a playoff beard waaaaay to early..

    [Reply]

  12. Sam says:

Can’t Stoll center Richie and Clune so Simmer can move back up with Zeus and Fro?

And Parse was totally inconsistent so sending him down may just be making room for Teddy to play a bit.

    [Reply]

  13. Derek Bargaehr says:

I don’t understand why Stoll is playing RW and Richie isn’t playing winger.

Ideal lines, to me, seem to be

    Richardson-Kopitar-Simmonds
    Smyth-Stoll-Brown
    Frolov-Handzus-Clune (Grind, shutdown line)
    Ivanans-Moller-Purcell

You have 3 lines that can score (although probably a little less with the 3rd line). Kopitar, Simmer, and Richie seemed to click while they played up top, and I don’t think Simmer and Richie lost any of their “jump” or grit…

When is someone going to create a PHP line generator for the Kings?

  14. Joey Drillings says:

Purcell has completely lost his confidence and Moulson’s success is keeping him on the team. Not sure the term “change of scenery” fits anyone better.

    DAN H…

    i agree…re: stoll…

maybe he will get re-adjusted to playing on the wing again, but last night, stolly seemed to miss an assignment or two…

maybe t.m. is already starting to assert a regular two-center line, as we inch closer to the playoffs and each game takes on that aura of importance…

    [Reply]

  17. VanKingsFan says:

I dont know if we need to talk about Moulson anymore… he has hit a wall BIG TIME and cant score worth beans anymore. At this point I think Parse was playing better than him.

  23. ViperHockey says:

PakiFro, that’s likely to be exactly right. I’m assuming that just about everybody else is either playing in the Olympics or would have to pass through waivers to get there. I bet he plays every other night down there as to not wear him out.

Moller might be the exception, but what’s the point of sending him down? He likely needs the rest.

So we have a 9 game tear, then we change the line up and promoptly lose two in a row…
Parse was a force on a line with Simmonds and Zeus, and Kopitar has no chemistry with Brown. We’ve been through this before!

  30. nykingfan says:

I thought the best line last night was Richy/Simmer/Clune line. They were skating hard and played with energy.
I don’t see any reason to break those 3 up.

The Kopi line had some really good chances. Brownuie didn’t bury the opportunitites, but they had chances.
I think these lines are pretty good. I hope he sticks with them for the game against Colorado.

Parse just didn’t bring the same game that he brought when he was first brought up. He was throwing the body and creating scoring chances because he was playing hard and phydical. Somewhere along the way, he lost those attributes and became another AHL-type player trying to hang on. Too bad because I really liked what I saw in the beginning.

I’m sick of complaining about TM and his whacky lines so I gave up on that. I’ll just wait till the end of the season and see what happens. We’ll make the playoffs most likely and that’s all you can ask from TM realistically. If we miss the playoffs, off with his head.

  36. variable says:

maybe it’s also pre-emptive if the whitney situation breaks between now and the freeze, as well…

also, the way i look at both players…clune and parse…is that they are both energy guys, implemented for forechecking and cycling down low…

so basically, we replaced one spark plug with another..

As the NHL heads into the 2010 Winter Olympics, a roster freeze goes into effect at 3 p.m. ET Friday, and lasts until 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 28. During that time, rosters are locked, and while trades can be discussed, nothing can be consummated until the freeze ends.

So Parse gets down in advance of the roster freeze… when he could have been sent down a couple of days before to make room for Clune, instead of waiving (and losing Segal).

Sounds like the Kings wanted him in the lineup for one more game and risked losing Segal to make sure of it. Sounds like a vote of confidence in Parse, to me.

Re: line changes. Guys, honestly, I don’t understand it. I haven’t seen the last two games, but from reading TM’s comments about chemistry, I understand even less. At 2 0r 3 points during this season some lines have clearly clicked. OK, you go away from those and that’s fine, but then to create new lines that have never been tried I don’t get. It just seems to be jumping around an awful lot trying to get lightning in a bottle.
It would seem to me that the slow starts and certain periods of poor play (even in games they won) would be more of a concern to me.

    [Reply]

  54. DougS says:

@variable: Yeah, too many teams still within striking distance of the playoffs for them to tear themselves apart and look forward to next year. And the teams that can clearly give up on the playoffs at this point, they don’t have much that other teams would want.

    RE: Line changes.

We all know TM changes up lines if they stop working well for a while, and if a hybrid line works during a game, he’ll explore it further.

Look at What Richardson/Kopitar/Simmonds did for a brief spell. It worked great, and TM gave it an extended look, then when it wasn’t as effective, he changed things up.

Trying new lines obviously has worked well for him in some cases, so he will keep trying.

    Chicago must dump salary.

Remember though, Barker got hurt and they found out they could do fine without him. The big reason for that is Jordan Hendry. Now that dude is one we could use here!! But they get Johnsonn in return as well, so…

The ‘Hawks are built to win right now. I follow the ‘Hawks because I live in the same time zone (Kings games are on late here!!) and they look bored. They are waiting for the playoffs. This attitude is foriegn to Kings fans like me but I do believe I recognize it.

If they do not make significant moves before the deadline they at least will lose Sopel, Mad Dog, Bolland and probably Frazier before the start of next year (or so thinks me) because, as one poster said a few weeks ago “the ‘Hawks seem to have forgotten that there is a cap.”

TP has a 1 way contract doesn’t he?

    [Reply]

  79. Skebo says:

It has nothing to do with 1 way or 2 way contracts. A one way contract just means a player gets paid the same if he is in the AHL as if he was in the NHL. 2 way contracts have a AHL salary and an NHL salary. capgeek.com will show you how it breaks down for any given player. Parse can easily be sent down, because he doesn’t have to clear waivers and that is all about his age and the number of years that he has been a pro. TP would have to clear waiver, just like Segal.

  80. SMcClory says:
