Ersberg starting tonight

Jonathan Quick is suffering from flu symptoms, so Erik Ersberg will get the start in goal tonight. Quick would be available in case of injury.

Also, Rich Clune skated this morning and will play tonight, alongside Ivanans and Moller in his NHL debut.

Notes and quotes from practice to come…

I feel like the NHL doesn’t have bad teams, it’s sort of like the NFL as in it’s any given Sunday, any team can win at any time.. NBA is different, you know who’s going to win in the NBA, rarely is there ever an upset, so for those of you saying “oh well, it’s only Edmonton”, well it’s not as easy of a win as you think it’ll be, let’s hope that it is, but all I’m saying is, don’t get your hopes up simply because it’s Edmonton. The Kings need a win, badly here and Ersberg needs to have a solid game

Uh oh; flu bug hitting the Kings. I assume Scuderi is feeling well enough to play tonight?

Good luck to Clune, and I look forward to seeing him tonight. IIRC that he looked like a good bet to make the team a few years ago, but got injured in camp and his fortunes never quite revived after that.

Hope Ersy is ready to go. Got to see Quicker earlier this season blank the Ducks 4-0 in his only shutout this season.

That means Ersbers is due for his only shoutout of this season. ;-)

  20. DougS says:

Absolutely right, AK. There are not good and bad teams so much as successful and unsuccessful ones. The Kings can’t let down against Edmonton and expect to win tonight.

  21. dtownmbrown says:

The parity in the NHL is a lot closer than it looks in the standings, for sure..

As AK said, it’s like any given Sunday in the NFL, you never know. All 30 teams have the talent to win on any night.

Although it would be a shame to drop one to the Oil, since they’ve only won 3 of their last 27.

Hey! Let’s not be too hard on Ersberg! He’s not been bad at all this year. With the exception of his first start of the year against the Rangers, he’s actually been fairly solid, just not playing up to what Quick has been giving the team. The guy has hardly had a chance to play.

Then people starting dishing out the name of Matt D’Agostini, IMO, it’s between D’Agostini and Pacioretty

  70. vicarious says:

Brian, your 3 fight line would be a throw back to the 1980′s early 90′s, when the teams dressed 2-5 fighters and there were usually 2-3 fights a night. That was when I started watching hockey. I missed the Philly Broadway Bullies teams. The Kings had Miller, Baumgartner and a few other fighters.

Now these NHL guys really fight and they’ve got all kinds of guts. Same back then. But for me at least all this fighting and having 2-3 guys there just to fight got a bit boring.

After a year or two of watching I could tell you who would fight, when they would fight, and usually who would win. Just like now, the non-fighters cannot really touch the fighters; the middleweights get murdered by the heavyweights; the heavyweights are all fairly closely matched.

I remember that if Calgary got up 2-3 goals, they’d send in the fighters (goons I guess) to beat up the Kings skilled players. If the Kings put in their fighters, not much chance of catching up, Eh? If the game was close and they got challenged to a fight, the Calgary fighters wld just laugh and skate away.

    [Reply]

how good was Butch Goring? gets trade to the Islanders for Billie Smith and Dave Lewis, and the Islanders win 4 cups in a row with his addition.

on breakaways, he would stop on a dime in front of the goalie and tap it in. Willie Huber, Detroit Red wings, took Butch extra hard into the boards and Willie Huber was the largest player in league, and butch got up got the puck, went inside out on Huber and scored!! i remember having the radio with me at the game, and Bob Miller said, chuckling, “take that Willie Huber!”.

if frolov was getting traded…or any player for that matter…and it was supposedly “99% done”…don’t ya think that our gm would pull that player off the ice and our eye-in-the-sky, RICH, would have a thread up faster than an ANTHONY(Y) complaint…???

    @The “Montreal” tale:
Twits like Caisse seem willing to anything for attention and perhaps a real job offer.

With the stats on those two boys the Kings would be smarter to keep those two off the payroll and out of the farm system and just give Frolov to Montreal. LOL

The only Habs we would remotely want are Plekanec (whos a UFA) or Cammalleri (whos hurt). The rest have just been god awful. Kostitsyn’s are a bunch of whiners, and while skilled, are not the type of guys we need in the mix we have going on. If we’re looking for somebody to help out, why not a guy like Dustin Penner?? He’s tailed off after starting well. And please, for the love of god, I hope DL does not acquire any of the stiffs from the Maple Leafs.
