Ryan Miller got a lot of attention for his flashy Team USA helmet. I got a chance to see Jonathan Quick’s Olympic helmet and ask him about the story behind it, which involves a childhood friend. You can read the story by clicking below, and also see part of the helmet. I’m hoping there are other pictures I can post that give a more complete look at the helmet…
Awesome!

Just a reminder. There are only 7 seats left to our LAK Insider Suite for Thursday. We really need to sell the remaining 7 tickets, so now is the time to purchase if you haven’t already done so. I am sending out the details to the event shortly. Here is the link for the event.

Seems almost wrong to post this comment to a story about Quick but according to TSN.ca’s player rankings, Jon Bernier is far and away the top rated player in the AHL right now. Kings prospect Brandon Kozun also happens to be the #2 ranked player in the WHL.

God Bless America, our troops and Jon Quick!

Great story, I think Quick should be the starting goalie for the US. Although he’d be in tough against us Canadians. My prediction Canada gold metal and Russia silver. US will take bronze against Sweden. Go Canada and go Doughty, will be cheering for ya!!!!

Rich -
While I cannot see the whole helmet design, the helicopter is not a Blackhawk. It is an Apache, specifically an AH-64 Apache Longbow.

I love this team more every day. Thanks for the story Rich.

Thanks MT…I made the fix. I got some bad intel on that one, they might say…

my man crush on quick is growing- great article by espn’s tom murry:
http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/nhl/columns/story?id=4887101.
check out this excerpt:
Jonathan Quick, after being asked if he’s given much thought to the fact that he is one win from tying the club record for single-season victories (35, set by Mario Lessard in 1980-81):
“Unfortunately,” said the always droll Quick, “I don’t think 35 wins is going to get us into the playoffs, so I’m not really much for those kind of accomplishments. I want to get the team into the playoffs and make a deep playoff run. That’s my only focus here.”

for those Cammi lovers out there, here is the result of having him on your team.
The Montreal Canadiens announced Monday that Bob Gainey has stepped down as general manager.

Great mask and a great tribute. Quick is blossoming into a great goalie however I am really looking forward to Bernier coming up and challenging Quick for the #1. If DL’s history repeats itself we might reenact the Nabokov/Kirusof San Jose goalie duo.
Hopefully 10 in a row will happen against the ducks tonight!

Way to go Quick! As someone who has worn a badge with much pride, thank you Jonathan for honoring our country and all those who keep it FREE!

Nice mask, bad photoshop.

Well speaking of goalies, I just read on TSN that the reason Toskala hasn’t played for the “Sux” yet is he doesn’t have a US work visa. Gotta love that Anaheim traded Giggy (who was one of this weeks 3 stars) for a guy who isn’t allowed to play yet. Go Kings Go!

@Shane-O, awesome article I totally hadn’t seen it….my favorite excerpt was Deano saying:
“We’re building like the Twins and the Oakland A’s,” he said, “but I want to keep them like the Yankees. I said that from day one: I didn’t come here to be the Oakland A’s. Screw that. Be somebody else’s minor league system? No thanks. But like the Yankees, until [Derek] Jeter and those other guys came through their system, they didn’t win nothing. And that’s what’s happening in there — you build those winners that come through your system.”

Shane-O, Also want to thank you for the link, but I only came up with an article where DL was interviewed, which was still a great article.
Love the quote from Quick that you posted. He is really young for a goalie but he seems to get it. Is it just me, or does anyone else recognize how relaxed JQ seems to be? He looks and comes off as calm and confident and very steady.

Shakes- that’s funny because the article I was originally referring to was “handzus helps kings around the net” (check the archives under tom murray’s name). The article I must have linked to by mistake was the one you were mentioning and that’s a good one too

I’ll try one more time (hopefully I don’t mess it up again)

Maybe TM just figured the way to get Quicker to move up to the next level was to play the guy EVERY SINGLE GAME!!! It’s not all Quick tho, because it’s still a TEAM SPORT, isn’t it???
Quick plays better because the D in front of him gives him better reads, the forwards fore check better giving the D better reads, TM mixes the lines up will nilly thereby giving us fans the better reads in the morning after another Kings victory.
I LIKE THIS GAME ALREADY!!!
GO KINGS GO!!!

Any chances Quick will wear his mask after the Olympics?
[Reply]
Great looking mask.
Not a chance for him to wear that mask other than in the Olympics.
[Reply]
Does not surprise me. His character shows up every night (there’s been a couple of games that went a little sideways) in net. Team USA 30 year anniversary baby!!!

Aw shucks…politics….
