End of regulation: 2-2

Shots were 29-26 Boston in regulation, and the Kings and Bruins are headed to overtime again…

Kings 2, Bruins 2

The Kings tied the game 2-2 near the end of what had been a dreadful power play. Anze Kopitar made a simple play, taking a wrist shot from the right side, and with Handzus parked in front of Thomas, the shot got through to tie the game 4:29 into the third period.

Bruins 2, Kings 1

Boston took the lead on a power-play goal 1:20 into the third period. David Krejci got around Michal Handus in the Kings’ zone and sent a pass to the front of the net. Mark Recchi was there in front to one-time the puck past Quick.

End of second: 1-1

The Kings escaped the second period in a tie game, despite being outshot 13-7 in the period and spending about one-quarter of it on the penalty kill. The Bruins will be on the power play for the first 1:39 of the third period.

Kings 1, Bruins 1

The Bruins tied the game, late in the second period, on their sixth power play of the game. Marco Sturm — after a fortunate bounce off a linesman — held the puck, waited for a sliding Kings defenseman to go by, and shot and scored with 4:44 remaining in the second period.

End of first: Kings 1-0

Shots were 10-7 Kings in the first period. Each team had two power plays, and the Kings scored on one of their power plays.

Kings 1, Bruins 0

After killing two Boston penalties, the Kings took the lead with a power-play goal with 7:54 remaining in the first period. Anze Kopitar shot from just above the right circle and Dustin Brown, in front of the net, tipped the shot past Thomas.

Mikus is here

First, if you need to catch up on today’s news and notes, please check out my LAKings.com notebook… Kings notebook (Jan. 30) Second, sit down everyone. I’m told that the one, the only Juraj Mikus is scheduled to be in the building tonight. It seems as though he might be injured — who thought such [...]

One tough matchup

The Boston Bruins might be, in Terry Murray’s words, a “wounded bear,” but penalty killing is one area in which they have been consistently strong. The Bruins’ penalty kill is the league’s second-most efficient, at 87.2 percent, and two weeks ago, the Bruins killed all five Kings power plays in the Kings’ shootout victory. The [...]

Congrats to Jim Fox

Media columnist Tom Hoffarth, my former colleague at the Daily News, every year lists his Southern California media “top 10” in various categories. Kings TV analyst Jim Fox has defended his title as the No. 1 game analyst, according to Hoffarth’s analysis. Game analysts: the top 10 Kings radio analyst Daryl Evans also received the [...]

Focus on Boston

The Boston Bruins have hit a terribly rough patch. They’ve lost five consecutive games in regulation and have totaled only six goals in those five games. They’re coming off a 2-1 loss against Buffalo last night, and seemed to play better than they have of late, but the Bruins are now fighting for the postseason, [...]

Goalie breakdown

I got a chance to catch up with Kings goalie coach Bill Ranford today, and I asked Bill if he could give a quick rundown of his impressions of each of the goalies in the Kings’ system this season. So here we go, starting with Jonathan Quick and continuing with Erik Ersberg, Jonathan Bernier, Jeff [...]

A chance for Jones

After four games as a healthy scratch, defenseman Randy Jones goes back into the Kings’ lineup tonight in place of the injured Jack Johnson. It’s been an up-and-down season for Jones, who was claimed off waivers from Philadelphia in October and had a good start, with four points in his first four games. Jones missed [...]

Jones for Johnson

Randy Jones will replace Jack Johnson in the Kings’ lineup tonight. Terry Murray said Johnson’s status remains day to day and that he isn’t sure if Johnson will be able to play tomorrow. No other lineup changes are expected for tonight.

The untouchables?

With all the talk about trades, and which players shouldn’t be traded, I thought I’d throw it open to a weekend poll. Which players, off the Kings’ NHL roster, would you consider “untouchable,” not to be traded under any circumstances? We can do another one, for prospects, but I thought we should start at the [...]

Good impression

In front of Kings management, Jonathan Bernier made 34 saves as Manchester beat Providence 2-0 tonight in the AHL game. By coincidence, the two goals were scored by players called up from Ontario of the ECHL this season, Jon Rheault and Geoff Walker.

Road trip within road trip

Dean Lombardi and a handful of other Kings management folks made the drive from Boston to Providence tonight to watch the Manchester Monarchs take on the Providence Bruins. Manchester is back in first place in the Atlantic Division, even though the Monarchs have wobbled a bit of late, with a 1-1-2 record in their last [...]

That guy looks familiar…

Here is Anze Kopitar’s season, by the numbers… October: 21 points in 14 games November: 12 points in 13 games December: 6 points in 14 games January: 14 points in 12 games So, Kopitar is back on a point-per-game pace for the first time since early in the season, and Terry Murray doesn’t think the [...]

Quick big in slow start

Less than two minutes into Thursday’s game, the Blue Jackets already had a 7-0 edge in shots, and they spent four of the game’s first nine minutes on the power play. The Kings were, to put it mildly, scrambling. Except in goal, where Jonathan Quick was really the only good thing the Kings had going [...]
