Drew Doughty gave the Kings the lead with a power-play goal with 27.3 seconds remaining. Doughty’s slap shot found the net, with Smyth and Brown running screens in front.

[Reply]
Chico said Quick one of most athletic young goalies he’s seen in a long time. Could you believe the glove save he made on whoever it was?!!
[Reply]
What was it that jofa guy was saying about Quick not being a great goalie?
[Reply]
All right. Nice win. Now the team gets to stay in Southern Cal for the next month including olympic break.
[Reply]
Wowwwwwwwwwww Amazing win
[Reply]
Patented Kings 3rd period comeback! Way to go boys! I am a man without words! Thank you Doughnut! Thank you Kings!!!
[Reply]
WOW!!!
I just got home from work, and saw the best part of the game.
Back in the summer, I said “this road trip at the end of January is gonna a highway to hell (please forgive that the last stop was the Devils). It’ll determine whether we make the playoffs or not.”
NEVER thought 5-0-0. The first time the Kings have been perfect on a 5+ game road trip in franchise history. This team this year is truly special.
[Reply]
I don’t believe it
[Reply]
OMFG. This team is special. Pulling rabbits out of hats. What’s next?
[Reply]
I’m still jumping around. Now if Dallas can just bump off the dogs….
[Reply]
Nice WIN!!! GO KINGS!!!!!!
[Reply]
I saw it but still can’t believe it…KINGS WIN
[Reply]
This is why all 82 games need to be on TV.
[Reply]
Wow what an amazing game.
Quick’s huge save and Doughty’s goal. This team just finds ways to win. Amazing
[Reply]
Tired Kings? I think not. Way to go guys.
Great road trip.
[Reply]
Gonna watch NHL On The Fly four hours straight tonight just to see these highlights over and over again.
[Reply]
Wow…. Just… wow….
And I mean that in the best possible way.
[Reply]
Mindblowing……..When do playoff tickets go on sale? I want some….
[Reply]
thank you Andy Greene;) and wow 6 straight wins and swept a 5 game road trip i love it and now tied in the 4th spot!!!
[Reply]
Another 1-0 series for the boys. Game at a time. Those guys have GOT to be tired. They deserve some serious rest!
I wish there was a way to meet them at the airport when they land just to thank ‘em. What a roadie!
[Reply]
‘Shocker’ they said. Quick’s monster save led to Kings come back. Just friggin awesome. one of the best game indeed.
[Reply]
That was the fastest 62+ comments in the history of this site!
[Reply]
Will be difficult to aquire many players. We want to keep Simmonds, and teams want him.
Richardson-Kopitar-Simmonds
Smyth-Stoll-Brown
Frolov-Handzus-TRADE
Parse-Moller-TRADE?
What do you guys think will happen trade wise?
Plug Ray Whitney into the 3rd line?
[Reply]
Anyone who keeps saying Quick is Not our MVP,
GTFO!
[Reply]
That was EPIC!!!
[Reply]
Still in shock. Quick is da man once again. Back to back games. Absurd saves. I just don’t know how to put it into words.
This team is something very special.
[Reply]
Just went to the ECHL page and found an piece on Quick that came out today…
http://readingeagle.com/article.aspx?id=191876
[Reply]
First 5 game road sweep in history. Congratulations Kings.
Another huge character win. Slow start is almost forgivable as it is a tough back to back. Still to come back against a tough if not the toughest defensive club in the league… Wow.
Quick is the real deal. I’m actually nervous that he is making such a strong impression that he will get time in Vancouver behind Miller. I’d rather see him get the experience by just being there and getting rested. He sure as heck deserves some playing time but I’m thnking selfishly for the playoff stretch run.
Whatever happens in just jacked about this squad. No quit in this team. Hard to imagine the Kings getting overlooked by any team in the league now. I’m also starting to sour on the idea of selling the farm for Kovi or Vinny. Let’s see what this squad can do first. We have all suffered the lean years and now that a group is finding ways to win I’m inclined to give them a chance to show just how high they can go.
[Reply]
I can’t stop smiling!!!!!
All Jonathan Quick.
After a trip like that…DL better buy them all a beer and than go out and aquire a top notch scoring forward….they deserve it!
Fantastic trip!!!
GO KINGS!
[Reply]
It was an ok win ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….NOT!!! UNF@@KINBELIEVEABLE!!!!!!!.
[Reply]

I think we blew up Rich’s server.
[Reply]
QUICK!!!!
[Reply]
Hey Rich, if the Kings keep winning you’re going to need a bigger boat(server)!
[Reply]
Man, I wanted to post a comment hourssss ago, but the site was down. What a character win by the Kings, wow, I thought “whatever, we’re gonna have to lose one on this road trip” and the Simmonds scored and I was so happy cuz I just had a feeling we’d win. Doughty and Johnson are beasts back there, love seeing JJ and never want to see him leave! Another deal was just announced, Calgary’s been super busy today..
To New York Rangers: Ollie Jokinen and Brandon Prust
To Calgary Flames: Chris Higgins & Ales Kotalik
[Reply]
yea i think we blew up the site! hahahaha
[Reply]
Kings Rule!
[Reply]
Atlanta GM Waddell was at the KINGS” game tonight……..so was Lombardi.
[Reply]
Trading for Lecavalier was never a realistic option. Besides the fact that he’s underperforming this season, his contract is so toxic that if you touched it, you’d probably grow a third arm out of your forehead or something.
I think DL would be foolish to mess with the chemistry of this team by trading away core players at this point, and my guess is that he thinks so, too. Even so, I think renting Kovalchuk is not out of the question, but the price has to be right (as in DL being in a position to twist Don Waddell’s arm and give him a real hard noogie).
[Reply]
was at the game, section 2, row 15…and there was nothing better than watching Jerzee fans mock me with 4minutes left….and then file out early with a 20 seconds left =)
sooo happpyy
[Reply]
Awesome job!!!!
Now just beat the Rangers and Ducks next week!
[Reply]
This website was down…. at least on my computer for hours…. but What a game!!
[Reply]
The Devils announcers were already looking to OT after the Kings tied it. As if they were so sure the Devils would hold on and take the point. My son and I looked at each other and sort of felt that the Kings would make sure it didn’t get that far and they did.
Again, I don’t know why I keep watching NHL ON THE FLY but all they did was break down a trade between 3 loser franchises and talk Crosby and Ovechkin. That’s fine by me. When the Kings come out of the west I’m sure they will find every opportunity to put them down but the Kings will send their message on the ice where it counts.
[Reply]
Just an amazing run. They just seemed to bend but not break (especially Quick) and stay close enough that a break could get them even; which it did. A nice reversal of the last home stand, the KINGS scoring late in periods… I had a laugh, remembering someone here posted during the Detroit game right after the Kings had fallen behind 2-0, that the Kings wouldnt win one game on the road trip. Nice prediction!
Yeah, we crashed the site, and when have we ever had a team in memory that could crash a site? Now back home with some focus (I hope) and try to win 4 of the 6 remaining games before the break, then rest up (well, most of the team) for that final push.
[Reply]
I’ve watched the replay at least 4 times now, and I still can’t figure out how that Simmonds goal went in. It didn’t look like there was any room at all!
This team has the grit that I saw with the 2001 club.
[Reply]
yay server is up!
awesome win. keep on rollin!
[Reply]
The Kings now officially OWN the 3rd period. Keep up the good work.
Go Kings!!
[Reply]
wow GO KINGS GO
[Reply]
Unbelievable. No matter what happens the rest of the way, this has been a great year. I’m lovin’ it.
[Reply]
Yeah, the site froze. Too many people probably wanted to comment. I’m getting on here again a few hours later.
GREAT WIN, KINGS!!
I’m wondering if the lines before playoff time will look like this:
Kovalchuk—Kopitar—Williams
Smyth—Stoll—Brown
Frolov—Handzus—Simmonds
Richardson—Moller—Parce
Ivanans when needed
Wow!!
When Williams returns, Simmonds may go back with Handzus. Keep the 2nd line the way it is. Then for the 1st line, if Kopitar has a star left-winger, we may go really far in the playoffs!!
[Reply]
Site has been down forever! What a SWEET game. Feels good to be a Kings fan right now.
And as you all probley know by now, BIG deal’s are going down as we post now. Deals should be done tonight. We just have to hope to keep the core of our team with wins like this…..
[Reply]
Am I the only one that thinks the site crashing wasn’t an accident??
[Reply]
bbb7- that would be deader2818…..that dedicated KINGS fan
[Reply]
Bout time we can post….
Yo ALI!!!! What a friggin victory!!!! I’m from Jersey and was an avid ex-Devils fan. Been in LA for awhile now and finally switched allegiance to the Kings some 6 years ago and had to eat crow ever since. Family back home was tellin’ me how they were going to rout the Kings tonight. Had to deal with sooooo many text messages from friends and family during the first two periods of the game. Man, did I flame them ALL after this sweet victory!
Went to the Kings/Devils game in Newark last year wearing all of my colors – hat, fully signed jersey, etc… took a bunch of flack. Now they know….There’s a new sheriff in town – now bow down and kiss the crown! Kings may lack some expoerience but not talent and they make up for it with sheer determination and perseverance. Now they are gaining experience and as that Beantown journal said “they are learning how to win”.
Way to battle boys. Been a long time coming.
GoKingsGo!
[Reply]
DB6 Why do you say that?
[Reply]
PLEASE DON’T DRAMATICALLY CHANGE THE CHEMISTRY OF THIS TEAM DL DL DL. This team doesn’t have the most talent out there… but they do have something intangible… belief in each other and a chemistry for sure.
[Reply]
from a devils blog…
Devils defenseman Mike Mottau’s back pass from behind the net went right to L.A.’s Scott Parse. A sharp angle shot from Parse almost went in off Rob Niedermayer. The puck then came back to Parse, who set up Michal Handzus below the left circle for the goal.
“Their guy was calling for the puck and I thought it was ours,” Mottau said. “I guess I fell for it. It doesn’t often work.”
LOL, nice one Parse!!!
[Reply]
Rick, I agree with you that no matter what happens the rest of the way this has been a special year. I can’t remember the last Season that felt like this. Yes the 92-93 playoff run was special… but the Team didn’t have what this one does.
We have some Extremely Special Players on this team… make no mistake about that.
[Reply]
Great win boys!! keep it up
[Reply]
Really Roadtripper? (perfect name, btw)
You wonder why more guys don’t try that more often. It’ll probably get Parse killed the next time Mottau sees him, but well worth it
[Reply]
seriously killed the site for a few hours there… Guess everyone was posting their excited responses simultaneously.
Special group going this year. Not sure if they can really compete with the league’s elite without another star scoring option but if this team has done anything this season is to exceed expectations. Coach has done an incredible job of creating chemistry teamwide.
Kings have fared well against the East leaders but getting to see any of them means getting through Chicago, San Jose, and probably Vancouver. That’s a tall order. It looks like the team will make the playoffs (knock on wood) but to advance a few rounds will take a revival from Frolov and Brown AND a red hot Quick.
The Kings have built with patience after a history of gutting the system for veterans that flamed out. I cringe when I think of what Atlanta is asking for Kovi. Sure he will score but will he fit?
Augh… DL has a tough job….
[Reply]
Officially eating my words.
I took my family to see the opener which the Kings just looked terrible. Then spent a lot of money and took them to see the Blues and they sucked just as bad.
Came on here and said I was glad I didn’t waste money on a 10 game plan. Went on about no playoffs this year.
I don’t mind the taste of this kind of crow however.
[Reply]
Absolutely awesome comeback! Any and all times we punk an eastern team it makes it that much sweeter. Even after that incredible road trip, are we gonna get any respect from the eastern honks? Does any team in the west get respect? Maybe we have to earn it; I think we have.
33 wins at this point in the season, I still can’t believe it. It’s IMPERATIVE that we have a great home stand next but for now I’ll savor this road trip. Great job KINGS!
[Reply]
And New Jersey loses their first game of the season when leading after two periods…as did Detroit (regulation loses that is). The Kings have won 6 times when trailing after 2 periods, tied for the lead in that stat, and that’s more than in any of the last few entire seasons. Just a ton of heart and no submission!
[Reply]
what an unbelievable win by the boys today!
i have one question — where are all of the tm and dl haters? must really suck to be you now, huh? go back to your dark alleys and dirty basements.
this team is for real. right now. for real. are you kidding me? moving a few prospects and a draft pick or two, to get another bonified scorer could make us west conf favs for the cup. no sh*t. the olympic break should give quick the rest he needs, since i doubt he’s going to play much. then its off to the races.
go kings go!
[Reply]
I wanted one thing on my birthday and it was a Kings win! And what a win!!
[Reply]
I just remembered something. I did hunker over to the end of the Lakers game (last 2 mins) and Kobe wins it with last shot (again)… but while I like the Lakers for sure, I’m not like “a fan”. That Lakers-Celts pales for me in comparison to what the Kings did.
These guys don’t seem to know how to quit.
[Reply]
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KINGSKNIGHT. What a great present!
[Reply]
Kings win again….check
Having my first child tomorrow…check
Man…life is good…(Yes I know my baby girl is way more important than some hockey game.)
[Reply]

Great in depth story about DD in the Toronto Star newspaper, published before he scored goal.

[Reply]
Finally flipped on the game at end thinking it was all but over… then WHAM…goal, goal, win! Really is unbelievable in many ways, but first and foremost, congratulations 2009-10 LOS ANGELES KINGS for setting a NEW RECORD for most consecutive wins on the road! If this isn’t a sign of a transformed franchise, I don’t know what is. Fantastic job boys! Bring it home.
[Reply]
Great come from behind character win tonight (again)!!
I’m going to try and go off of memory here, so forgive me if I leave anyone out, or if I’m wrong on any of these..
“Elite” teams the kings have beat this year…
Pittsburgh
Washington
San Jose (won season series)
Chicago?
New Jersey
Buffalo
Boston (slumping now, but still a good team)
Detroit (see above)
Don’t know about you guys, but I’m impressed and convinced…this team is the real deal
[Reply]
Let’s see….
Ranger helped by rolling over Colorado…. They can help again by rolling over on Tuesday night.
[Reply]
This is off-subject, but I have a question:
For some reason I can’t find Brayden Schenn listed among our players at capgeek.com.
Is this just some inconsequential oversight? Or does anybody know something that’s changed about Schenn’s status with the Kings?
I can’t help but ask . . . does Brian Burke have anything left that we want? And are willing to spend Schenn and one or more draft picks to get?
[Reply]
What an amazing win! I tried getting on the website, but I guess so was everyone else!
Thank you Kings for such a wonderful Birthday present (you too Everett Silvetips for winning 14 in a row)!
I like the team the way it is and right now Kovi should want to come here when he is an UFA, I sure don’t want to break this team up!
[Reply]
What a win!
What a trip!
Hope they don’t break their arms patting themselves on the back. Still a lot of hockey to go. Keep it up!
GO-KINGS-GO!
[Reply]
First, I just have to say we are blessed with the two best radio commentators on the planet – BAR NONE! I was driving back from Big Bear and had to listen to most of the game on XM and the two idiots on the NJ feed were horrible. I swear the pulled some chick and a total d-bag out of the crowd for the radio call. Turned on Daryl and Nick right after Simmonds tying goal. Great to hear Nick’s call on the game winner.
Great game!!! I think we are starting to see the hard work these guys put in and the team chemistry they formed over the summer and it is really starting to pay off. I hope DL leaves this team alone. They fight and they scrap and they ALL do the dirty work TOGETHER!!! Kovi not wanting to do the hard work isn’t going to fly on this team. This is a cohesive unit we are seeing here. The way this team fights through the tough times, the bad games, and the bad breaks is amazing.
Great game tonight. Who cares about stats? I care about wins and we are getting them in bunches right now. Don’t mess with the Kings this year! They are dangerous!!!
[Reply]
Schenn ain’t goin anywhere dude…. why would DL trade him now before he’s even played (2) games for the Kings?
[Reply]
This team is starting to remind me of the 88 Dodgers
[Reply]
Actually HAGI18, if I’m not mistaken, both the Kings and Sharks went 3-2-1 against each other, so it’s a split. But that 6-2 road win feels like it should count triple
Only good team we haven’t been able to figure out is Vancouver. They scare me more than any other team in the league right now. Hope we don’t get stuck playing them in the playoffs.
[Reply]
wavesinair –
The kings’ record for consecutive road wins is 8 — and it was a league record when the Kings did back in the ’70s. It has been surpassed many times since then.
The closest the Kings have come since then to doing what they just did was decades ago, when they won the first four of a five-game road trip, losing the final game to Buffalo, whom they beat at the beginning of the same road trip.
[Reply]
I agree KingsFan…Let’s see how far this team can go the way it’s constructed. Then wait to see what we can pick up in free agency. The Kings aren’t exactly in a desperate position to make a trade. Although another stay at home D-Man would certainly be nice.
I’m officially off the Kovi bandwagon and can’t wait till he’s traded to Boston so we can just move on.
[Reply]
God. I think we blew up the website!
[Reply]
Kevin..
Thanks for pointing out the Sharks series mistake, but I do agree..6-2 counts as triple in my book : )
I also agree with Vancouver. Not sure what it is, but the boys haven’t been able to figure that team out.
[Reply]
Number 6 –
I hope you’re right. But for some crazy reason I can’t find Schenn listed on a site where I’ve always seen him before. His brother’s name is easy to run on the site.
I don’t know why Brayden should have disappeared into the weeds.
Maybe I’m just so hysterical over the Kings’ winning streak that ANY kind of mistake — no matter how inadvertent — makes me paranoid.
With these bodacious trades that are happening today, along with DL’s very public remarks about going shopping, I thought that Schenn may be part of a yet-to-be-announced deal. I mentioned Burke’s name because DL squealed with delight that he drafted Schenn out from under Burke, who was known to want him.
[Reply]
Atleast we are back now. What a difference a nap makes. Anyway, as I tried to post earleyer I found a piece on Quick. Oh and he was the NHL On The Fly highlight of the night…

In 1974 after they come back from the last long trip
the trip was 4 and 0 , forum crowd gave them 5 minutes standing ovation, lets see what u youngones can do tuesday nite .THAT IS THE WAY TO PLAY FOR KINGS, GO KINGS GO
[Reply]
Yeah waves, this was only a record for being the first five game road trip where they won all of them on the same trip. Probably that’s what you heard…
My favorite stat is that the Devils were undefeated at 24-0 when leading after two periods. Not anymore! Absolutley monumental trip; Congrats boys!!
[Reply]
utely…
[Reply]
The playoffs are looking mighty fine for the Kings. DL has to reward the players with the missing piece and hopefully the missing piece is hopefully Kovy. Although it would be better to sign him as a free agent I wouldn’t mine getting him as a rental and then re-signing him during the FA. Imagine the first line of Kovy-Kopi-Willie.
[Reply]
Rich,
A crash of the server after a game like THAT?
PRICELESS!
Anyone not going to the Feb 11 game?
Your team has spoken! MAKE THE GAME, if you can!

Kopi 11 — Unfortunately, the latest request from Wadell is Simmonds, JJ, the first and Philly’s second. Not worth a rental in my book.
Let’s get the youngens some playoff experience and sign a FA this summer.
DL would not trade Schenn. He is the best player in the CHL this year.

im not sure that i like jokinen vs LAK on the rangers…that ok ill take it!

after last weeks snub on the power rankings, where do you think the kings will end up tomorrow? still behind the likes of montreal, det, and ottawa LOL. tsn needs to give the kings their credit FINALLY.

Unreal comeback. How I would have liked to see it on tv.
Big homestand next week.
Keep it rolling boys!
[Reply]
fortunato, that’s an interesting comparison. This road trip does give off that ‘team of destiny’ vibe. Although, if anything, I’d say that the ’88 Dodgers had more weaknesses as a baseball team than the present Kings have as a hockey team….
Let’s see:
Quick = Hershiser?
Smyth = Gibson, but without having to throw a fit over eyeblack in his helmet?
Parse = Mickey Hatcher?
I dig.
I can see the Kings beating the Sharks in the WC finals as being like the Dodgers beating the Mets in the NLCS, except that the Kings have actually done well against the Sharks in the regular season….

Great game Kings, hell of a road trip!! Best ever for the Kings!! That save by Quick was one for the best saves of the year!! Get some rest boys and then beat the Rangaaaas!

Pretty awesome that we crashed the site. That means there is a lot of passion for the boys in purple and black(black & white for the next 2 games). Keep up the great play and cant wait to be in the building Tuesday night. Olie who???? Bummed that Giggy is no longer around:(
[Reply]
I had to change my pants TWICE during this game. One for each of the last 2 goals.
If our team keeps playing like this, let’s get Ray Whitney and forget Kovy for now. Ray would be a good rental and a Veteran LW Cup Winner. We don’t have too many of those. Infact, we don’t have ANY of those. The addition might be the right move because we can get him on the cheap. Maybe a prospect and a good pick? Total rental, maybe a 1 year resign.
If our team is doing this well, why remove any of the solid pieces and shake up the lineup? Ray might be the perfect fit for what we need to go deep in the playoffs IMHO.
Just want to say it SUCKED having the site go down at that incredibly joyous time. Glad it’s back up quick.
[Reply]
WOW! What an amazing win – way to go KINGS! I’ll be honest, I had doubts going into the 3rd, but once we tied it I thought we might win it in OT or a shootout – then comes ‘Doughty to the Rescue’!
I really don’t want to see DL break-up this team chemistry for Kovalchuk if he would only be a rental – not worth it.
These guys are playing hard for each other and it’s so awesome to see – FINALLY! What an exciting time to be a Kings fan

Shakes, you animal! How the hell ya been? So you got to see it live eh? I thought you might be there. It was quite a victory; I’m sitting there screaming at my laptop when they tied it and I KNEW they would win it in regulation. These kids are amazing; I don’t recall any Kings team playing so well as a team. The cup team was special because of Gretz and the vets. But that was a seasoned, veteran team; this team is so young, so loaded with kids, they weren’t supposed to be this good so fast! And the veteran pick up’s….Smitty, Scuds & Williams & OD what can you say about these guys and what they bring to the lockeroom? DL’s perfect mix of vets, youth and character guys have blended well.
My complements to Quickie, what a goalie! Best since The Cat & Hrudey by far. And to TM (Jack Adams) & especially DL for assembling this amazing team of talent. Everyone said the Kings youth would be served. And now it is…..patience, it was worth the wait.
On to the Rangers…I love this team!
GO KINGS!!!

Great game.
If is not broken do not try to fix it. All the games that the kings had won is because they are playing as a team.I am tired of watching the kings giving up really good players for one super star and not going anywhere.
[Reply]
What a great, great scouting staff the Kings have and I believe it was Dean who put them together. A great, great road trip, what Great Character, And everyone thought that Ray Bourque was retired and that Plante had died and gone to hockey heaven, well evidently they have come back reincarnated as Jonathan QUICK and Dewey Doughty. Maaaaaaaannnnn this last half is gonna drive me crazy and then there’s the playoffs…… May Clarance Campbells ghost help us.

Cynic…I’ve been thinking the same thing…I think Ray Whitney would be a good addition and no, I don’t think the Kings should trade any of the core for Kovi. This team looks good, too good for years to come. However, if I were anywhere near LA, I’d meet you at the airport to great the team, this was an awesome win by an amazing club.
As far as crashing the website….hilarious!

I swear, with about 6 minutes left I felt we were probably going to come back & win it–A strange NEW quiet confidence in this team I haven’t quite felt before.
I love this brand of hockey from a tired team

I’d call it, “Catch-up & Kill”.
[Reply]
Did anyone else think Chico Resch (Devils color guy) was senile? Half the time I was wondering if he was watching the same game I was. When Handzus scored, it was “there goes the shutout,” as if the result was a foregone conclusion. When Quick made that glove save on Zubrus, he gave him no credit, insinuating he was lucky by saying he “never saw it” when it was apparent on the replay that he did. What an unbelievable “homer!” Thank heaven for Bob and Jim. Some of you may not realize how lucky we are to have them.
And what a WIN! AWESOME!
[Reply]

Minnesota Kings Fan, I heard that too lookin at the highlights, Chico needs to make an eye appointment, what was this “he never saw it” as the replay clearly showed glove up, Quick looking right at it. East coast bias as usual. No respect for L.A. Kinda reminds me of Hazy with the homerisms.

WWAMD –
Fuggedaboudit!!!!
We’re flying with the w[k]ings we got. Why not play out this hand and see where it takes us?
Why spend ANYthing to “rent” Kovi? Yeah, he scores like a rock-star with a 24/7 coke connection.
But all he can do is melt the paste that our players have used to bond this team since last summer. Right now the only elephant in the lockerroom is the universal desire to make the play-offs. Let’s keep it that way.
Like I said before. I wouldn’t trade Simmer for Kovi straight up.
If the guy really wants to play in L.A., he and his agent will make sure he’s available come July 1. Meantime, Waddell can blow all his deals out his ass.

This site is one of my all time favs. i swear I check the new postings every hour just to make sure I’m up to date on any and everything…Kings.
While I love this team, I think we need another piece. If we could get Kovi for only a minor roster player and picks then pull that deal. If it costs us any of the character guys (Simmers, Kopi, Stoll, Brownie, Smitty) then no way. I’d hate to be DL these days trying to upgrade the team while not making the wrong move. That’s why he gets the big bucks.

[Reply]
Oh my God!!! Is this the same team my bro and I saw sleepwalking thru the Calgary game at Staples in Nov.??? Getting Kovvy in a Kings jersey is dumb if he’s only a rental, but if they get him long term, that turns this team into legitimate elite class instantly! I trust Lombardi to only get him if it’s long term. This team rocks!!!
[Reply]
Kotalik says no to Calgary. This may kill the deal. And Sutter won’t wake up in the morning with buyers remorse,
uknojata — uhh, good luck, hate to lose a regular. Don’t really want to hear which choice you decide on.
[Reply]
Here’s the thing about Dan Waddell’s dilemma:
If he trades Kovalchuk and is perceived as getting too little for him, he’s probably toast. Out of a job.
If he loses Kovalchuk and gets nothing for him, he’s probably toast.
He wants roster players because he doesn’t want to admit that Atlanta will have to rebuild if they lose Kovalchuk. Also because if the playoffs begin tomorrow, his team is in. A team that’s in the playoffs does not do a deal to make itself weaker in the short-term.
But the most likely takers for Kovalchuk are playoff teams who also want to make themselves stronger in the short-term. They would rather stand pat than risk making themselves weaker, or not making themselves better by enough to put them over the top.
So Waddell’s in a position where he has to have his cake and eat it too, or else he’s probably run out of Atlanta on a rail.
Which makes me think that he may actually wind up doubling down for this season: Keep Kovi, try to add to the team by the deadline and make the best run at the Cup that he can. Because he knows it’s all going to blow up on him after this season, and his only real chance of saving face is the slim chance that he can catch lightning in a bottle and make a heroic run in the playoffs.
[Reply]
I’m wondering if the lines before playoff time will look like this:
Kovalchuk—Kopitar—Williams
Smyth—Stoll—Brown
Frolov—Handzus—Simmonds
Richardson—Moller—Parse
Ivanans when needed
[Reply]

I was going to say, but blu beat me to it, that schenn is not under contract yet.
[Reply]
Ummm, hey NHL, can we petition to stay on the road the rest of the season? Thanks!!!
GO KINGS GO!!!
[Reply]
King John, re your lines:
Let’s see, who did you trade? First line, you’ve got IK and no Richardson, but I see RIchardson on the 4th. No Simmonds, but he’s on the 3rd and Williams is back (optimistic). 2nd line is same as now. 3rd line is the old 3rd line. 4th line is Richie/Moller/Parse. No Segal, no Purcell, but those can’t be the guys you traded, since they’re essentially worthless as trade-bait for an elite player.
I guess you’re imagining a giant prospect/pick package. I dont’ think that’s what ATL is looking for, and frankly such a package would probably bum me (personally) out more than trading a roster player.
I don’t think DL will be dealing Schenn, Bernier Loktionov, Voynov or Clifford, or Hickey, and probably not Teubert, but what do I know.
[Reply]
Tmik – great video. when i get the time i will check out all the other vids.
[Reply]
Yeah, I was going to add that this line-up would give the Kings a shot at going far in the play-offs, but of course we would probably lose an important forward. Unless Jack Johnson was the primary trade player off the current roster.

[Reply]
Well, well, well, here we are at the crossroads wondering what to do since Wadell was at the game. We GM’s of the LA Kings are now afraid to pull the trigger and we are now very happy that we AREN’T Dean Lombardi. I will admit I was one of “Them” that just about two weeks ago wanted to trade Kopi. I don’t know what happened to him but he has sure woke up. I’d keep JJ now also. I never gave up on Quick since day one. I think if anyone is moved it will be Jones ( didn’t play again after his give away) Purcell, maybe even Harrold. I still don’t think DL will pull the trigger and send ANY of the “Box filled guys away”.
[Reply]
remember “Miracle”,
when Cox is the last guy that gets cut from the team. thats gonna be the guys after whomever gets traded.
and Kovi is gonna be the hot shot that comes in late and erozione and OC go to kurt russell and say this is our team…. but once we have kovi, we cant return him…
i’m just sayin.. corny, but i’m just sayin

[Reply]
I’d think we ought to stay put. After looking at the article cbcrown linked above. We have no reason what so ever to give anything away. Our future looks plenty bright as is.
[Reply]
sorry hate to correct but its 3Bcrow (3bcrown is me too). my iPhone drops the capital b. i believe that the kings should only trade for kovi if a deal gets done to keep him in town. otherwise i like the direction the team is heading and if kovi sees it he can come on over in free agency without us giving up anything other than the cap space.
[Reply]
Doug S explained it well. It’s the reason I think Ray Whitney could come to LA this year. Kovy MAYBE in FA, but as a rental, no way. Not with the way we’re playing.
Ray Whitney would do more for this team now than Kovy would. It’s kind of like grilling a steak. Seasonings are great, dash of pepper, little garlic salt, parsley, to enhance the meaty goodness you already have.
Kovy would be like cutting the steak in half and putting twice as much seasoning right now. Now I like Kovy and wouldn’t mind seeing him in a Kings uni for the right deal, but you never fix things that aren’t broken.
Again, I think Whitney would enhance what we have and we may even get him for Prospects & Picks so the team can stay intact.
[Reply]
i can picture it NOW

Waddell wants good return on Kovi better allow teams of interest to negotiate for long term if we wants more than picks or prospects for a rental like Kovi!
If Deano is involved in trading, im betting this only caveat is keeping him from pulling the trigger on a deal
[Reply]
Please everyone, forget about Whitney because he is OLD.
I still say Penner for prospects but because he is not in the news, I guess he is not being shopped.
We need someone on the left side; The Kings are getting close. Perhaps one more piece will do it.
[Reply]
Biggest reason to trade for Kovalchuk NOW? You get 5 months exclusive rights to sign him before he hits the market. If DL is willing to shell out the money July 1st for him, then he’s willing to do it now. Waiting until July 1st means you’re competing with cowboy GM’s like Burke who will give him absurd amounts of money.
[Reply]
PEOPLE:
waddell is not letting people negotiate because he knows +90% chance he’s gonna sign w/ the KHL, 20M/yr tax free in his homeland. he’ll play 2 years over there for 40M, come back and sign as a free agent as a 29 year old. waddell knows he could get more if teams could negotiate, but he cant let them do that.
mark my words… (i’m not the first guy to say this)

I used to have TWO special Kings high lights in my memory. Luc sliding on his belly to the left of the goal and somehow getting the puck into the net. Gretz smacking a high tipped puck into the net like it was a low outside fastball against the Canucks. And now THIRD, Jon Quick lying on the ice, a Devil sitting on his head, and he somehow manages to glove a shot – thus saving a game we should have been no where near winning. Please, Rich, we were all denied having Bob and Foxy call that play. You MUST ask them their reaction when they saw it!
[Reply]
The better we get the more silly noise i hear about trading guys away, idiots

I hate to bring this up, but the way we are playing, if we can add Kovi, I see no reason why we can’t challenge for the Cup. I can’t believe I’m even typing these words. But with the confidence we have, the tight checking, the way we battle back, all we need is a great scorer like Kovi.
Schenn, Hickey, Moller and a No 1 if he agrees to sign.
Schenn for Kovi if he is a rental.
[Reply]

[Reply]
ahhahah Carol, change the record please.. it is skipping. I am beginning the think Kovi would make us worse, now and in the future
[Reply]
I love how this team, obviously tired, played what was actually a pretty damned good game against a pretty damned good home team. They did get a couple good bounces, but they also hung in there on a tough night. Character is playing well enough to win on a bad night, and we saw that happen. I would say that they stole this game, rather than Saturday’s game. They were in that one all the way, and it looked like this one was getting away from them until they scored the late second period goal. I have to say watching NJ play is a brutal experience I don’t want to repeat any time soon. I’m glad the Kings are a lot more exciting on a night they’re not tired as hell and playing Jersey.
[Reply]
VanKing,
You’re the one with the same mantra. The difference between us is I want to win a Cup and you want to make the playoffs.
[Reply]
A couple of points:
1): What a thread! Crashed in ecstasy! It may not be the record, but it certainly is the most memorable thread in Rich History!
2): I’ll ask the same question asked near the end of the NJ game–If the Kings win this game, do you still want Kovi?
The latter is a difficult question. Obviously, the Kings did come from behind, win the game and drive most of us into a crazed, non-drug induced state of bliss. The problem will still remain, can Kovalchuk make this a better team?
The answer will still be ‘yes’, if the price is that of a rental only, one non-essential player and/or plus/minus a high round draft pick or two. The fact is, however, that Waddell has become a desperate man facing a sword or the plank. He needs more to survive, or in Brian Burkian terms, save face.
The Brian Burke trade has changed the landscape for deals this season. The deal was gutsy in that it removed multiple players (and contracts) in exchange for a difference making player. If there is another bottom feeder team willing to make such a deal, Waddell may yet be ‘saved’.
One example: TB and Vincent LeCavalier. Another: The New York Rangers. Could the Rangers package 4 players in exchange for Vinnie or Kovi?
Either way, Kings team chemistry must now be considered, and for that I am glad. But it must be remembered that the team still lacks scoring, and probably lacks that huge crease-clearing stud defenceman like Pronger or Chiara.
Finally, remember the Boston Bruins. They had to make cap-related choices, dropped one dynamic free-agent forward in exchange for another, and now this season cannot score. They were a 118 point team last year!
I don’t want the Kings to end up like that.
Jest Saying!
[Reply]
Well-said, Bako.
[Reply]
@Tuan Jim & Player-X
Ahhh yes, I jumped the gun. Thanks for the correction. So they are 1 win short of tying the club record for consecutive road wins, yet have never gone 5-0 on the road until yesterday. All in all, an incredible run for this club.
They currently have 7 road wins in a row and the club record is 8. Of course, my mentioning it will invariably cause the next road game to be a loss, which is, of course, at Anaheim! Beat the sucks, beat the stars and we got ourselves a new record!
[Reply]
The people that have dream lineups are still trading like they can do it in NHL 10. No top guys are moved to get Kovi and he’s added instead of Purcell.
Good luck getting that one done in the real world.
I wouldn’t touch this team right now. Everyone here WANTS a cup Carol, the difference is we want a team that competes for the next 5-10 years consistently FOR the cup, not one year and out.
We would have been happy with the 8 spot going into the season. To think about 4th or 5th would have been folly realistically.
The boys meshed and are playing great. Lets keep with the plan Deano!
