With the Kings riding a four-game winning streak, no lineup changes are expected for tomorrow’s game at Boston, unless Jack Johnson’s arm injury prevents him from playing. “I’ll probably stay with what we saw last night,” Murray said, which would make Randy Jones and Teddy Purcell the healthy scratches.
Murray also said that Jonathan Quick will start in goal against Boston. Murray indicated that he would wait until after that game to decide whether Quick or Erik Ersberg would start Sunday at New Jersey. “We’re just taking the next game right now, and Quick will play,” Murray said.
Also, Johnson’s status could impact this, but Murray said the plan is still for Davis Drewiske to make his return Sunday.
“He now has the green light to get in and play,” Murray said. “I’m not going to play him in back-to-back games. I don’t want to risk that, but I would sure like to get him in one of the two.”
Is Quick truly a number one goalie? Sure plays like one. But what about Bernier? Why after every soft game do I feel like Quick has a short leash? Maybe it is that even though he has played stellar and above any expectation, I feel like he may collapse at any moment. Maybe i just need to get drunk.
OT: Anybody know the Kings cap number now and the league cap number?

By the way-I think Quick is great, so don’t mis-interpret the above comment.

Well I guess barring a bad game tomorrow against Boston, Quicker will be playing both games this weekend.

And yes I do believe he is a #1. Right now, he is a better goalie than Bernier, and until that changes he is our #1. I dont think he has a short leash at all.. he has played the second most minutes in the league despite a few soft games. If his leash was short, I think Iceberg would have a few more starts

Joey, I’m too lazy to look it up myself and give you the answer on the cap question so here is the link …

Quick is a #1 still developing. Our past problems with goaltending have nothing to do with Qick.I think that’s why some expect the bottom to drop.DL has always built teams with competant goaltending.I’m sure we haven’t even begun to top out Quicks potential.Look at the impact he’s had in his first real season in the NHL.We’ll have good goaltending for years to come. Not to mention Berneir wil be here next year.

Quick is a solid goalie but has a tendency to let in soft goals. However, the more pressure thats put on him, the better he responds. That can be crucial come playoff time.
[Reply]
Yes he lets in the odd soft goal… but he also makes some ridiculous saves on Sure goals… soft ones he can work on in practice and with experience he can eliminate most of those… you cant teach his reflexes and insitncts

I see Quick giving us a chance to win most nights . The kind of mins he’s putting up are impressive for a young tender . He has good fundamentals and seems to shake off the bad goals rather well which only makes him more appealing to me . His work ethic is great and that tells alot about his desire to be a number one guy . The job is his and he deserves it .

Last night should have been a shutout. That one goal was a ricochet off Quick’s mask and then off OD. Wouldn’t consider it a “soft” goal as much as a freak goal.
Quick has let in some soft goals, but I love his composure. He never seems to let it get to him. He will let in a soft goal and then turn around and make some incredible saves. In past years, Kings goalies would allow soft goals and then turn around and give up 4 or 5 more.
Quick is awesome. He has only been yanked from a game once this year, if I am not mistaken, so I don’t think his leash is all that short. I agree with one of the posts above that I think we are just starting to see Quick’s potential.

Bernier is going to be part of a pkg to get help up front. With Voynov, Campbell, Tuebert, Hickey, and Muzzin in the pipeline, I expect a deal to a team that wants to rebuild and not atl, who wants roster players.
Even with the Kings solid d, I’d be happyto see Souray in LA, he big, mean and would certainly help the pp.

I do think Quick is the Kings number 1 goalie, and I think he’s better than Ersberg. But please Murray give Quick a night off, I hope Ersberg in goal Sunday. If the Kings make the playoffs Quick is going to be burned out. There has been a couple games this season in which Quick has looked tired and Ersberg should of got the start.

Quick is clearly the #1 goalie and will be for some time. He is an excellent goalie, but not yet an elite goalie. Considering this is his first full season we should be thanking our lucky stars.
Is in a $$$ goalie? Sure looks like it to me. He has the best shoot out record in the league. Near the top in minutes played and wins.

God help the Kings if Campbell is in the pipeline, he is absolutely the worst defenseman I’ve even seen step on the ice for the Monarchs, he is totally clueless.

JQ’s the MAN! He has not developed to his full potential yet. Yet, every goalie, no matter how good, has a bad game once in a blue moon and deserves to be pulled for the good of the team.

I didn’t read the comments past the first but, why is it so many people seem to forget Quick is a ROOKIE?
He’s supposed to let in some soft goals.
He’s supposed to look a little sloppy at times.
Overcoming that comes with experience. More experience than a full season’s worth of games (at this point) can provide.
I doubt Bernier would not make similar mistakes while he is a rookie in the NHL.
[Reply]
Rookie? I don’t think anyone can say that with a straight face about someone playing in his third season, with almost 100 games under his belt.
Yes, he’s young. Yes, he’s growing, and still learning. Yes, he rocks. Yes, he lets in an occasional soft goal. He is all of this…but not a rookie.

when ersberg was our #1 and he was hurt we needed to bring up a goalie from the minors seeing what JB has done in the AHL is showing that he is a #1 draft pick and has a bright future, but what quick has done in the NHL as a third round selection shows the kings staff know what they are doing and there should be no question quick is our number 1 goalie.
