Here’s what Jack Johnson said today about his status, followed by Terry Murray’s thoughts…
Question: How do you feel today?
JOHNSON: “I skated today. It’s going to take a few days before I feel good again. Hopefully it feels good sooner than later.”
Question: Will you be able to play tomorrow?
JOHNSON: “I don’t know. I don’t know yet. I’d like to think so, but I have to make the smart decision for the long term. Hopefully I can, but we’ll see.”
Question: Were you limited in any way today?
JOHNSON: “I didn’t push it. I didn’t do any shooting or anything, just because I’m not worried about practice, I’m worried about the game. So there’s no sense in pushing it.”
QUestion: Just an upper-body injury, then?
JOHNSON: “I’ve got a sore arm. Hopefully it’s something that will get better each day. I’m just hoping it gets better sooner than later.”
Question: There had to be some relief that it wasn’t worse…
JOHNSON: “I knew, at the time, it wasn’t something too serious. But I knew it wasn’t good, in terms of today and tomorrow. I just hope it’s something that gets better sooner than later.”
Here’s what Murray said…
Question: Do you think Johnson will be able to play?
MURRAY: “No, I don’t know for sure. He wasn’t really shooting or passing the puck as hard as he normally would. There’s some soreness there. We’ll see how he’s getting through the day, and get an update tonight. Hopefully, we can know by tomorrow morning whether he’s in or out, and not have to wait until game time.”
Question: But it doesn’t look like something long-term?
MURRAY: “No, I don’t think so.”

Good News!

Well, I sure hope it’s something that gets better sooner than later.

I wonder what it would be if its just a few days… hyper extension??
[Reply]
JJ:
What color purple is your arm?
Give it a week; it’ll be a gorgeous purple-yellow…
[Reply]
hyperextended elbow then…….
[Reply]
If say Purcell made that hit against Boll & Johnson that caused the injury, would we be calling for his head?
Has my man love for Simmonds blinded me?
[Reply]
“just because I’m not worried about practice”
Somebody cue Allen Iverson :)
[Reply]
Sprained wrist maybe too?
[Reply]
another mysterious “gonna be a game or 2″ turns 2 or 3 weeks???? certainly hope not, but jj doesnt have a good history w/ his “arms”. guess you take him off the IK trade for now.
[Reply]
Anybody see Atlanta last night. Theyt started the night in 13th place… they won and they moved up to 6th!! The east is not as strong, but it sure as hell is just as competitive for playoff berths.
[Reply]
hmmm….
ok…let’s just take-in the big picture as to why this injury might have a bit more significance…:
- dl calls out jj…
- jj responds and calls out dl…
- dl apologizes…(?…well, they talked…)
- jj confirms this, however won’t talk about the subject anymore…
- kovi trade rumors run rampant involving the kings…
- jj’s name surfaces in almost every legitimate (few) rumor…
- foxy during last night’s telecast says that without question, dl is pursuing trades to make this team better…
- during the same game, jj gets hurt by his own teammate and may miss a few games…
…what’s next…?
i get the feeling that if there was deal in place or a deal that’s currently in negotiations, jj is definitely one of those players that could be in the offing and the depth and seriousness of this injury could spell a strange fate in any transactions…
hmmm….vetty interesting….
i want to be clear – i’m NOT accusing jj of faking anything or the kings holding him out in purposes of dealing him…
but…
this could be nothing that becomes something…
just a thought…
[Reply]
I’m with Van/src. My guess is hyper-extended elbow. If that the case, I give him 4 to 5 days. What’s that 2 games?
[Reply]
variable:
“i want to be clear – i’m NOT accusing jj of faking anything or the kings holding him out in purposes of dealing him…”
It sounds to me like the you were strongly insinuating the second part of that statement lol
[Reply]
I’d like to see what Simmonds has to say about friendly fire and the like…
[Reply]
VAN…
i have no inside info whatsoever…
none…
just trying to put it all in perspective…
my guess is as good as anybody’s…
but it makes you wonder a bit, no…?
[Reply]
Could be a sore arm would affect his shooting accura… umm, nevermind.
[Reply]
i mean…it’s been one hell of a week for jj…it’s been a jmfj type of week…he scored, too…!
[Reply]
Variable-
Injury doesn’t seem to be that bad, so I’m guessing it won’t hurt trade talks…..aw, maybe an extra prospect now:)

V:
Saw the hit/suspect anterior dislocation of the humerus, easily reduced, chronic process. If so, muscle contusion will be the residual damage in the arm, around the shoulder plus at the points of contact.
If I’m right, it will take a few days to regain some shoulder strength, probably no more than one week.
If I’m right, there will be speculation about malingering, but THERE WILL BE NOTHING INSIDE THOSE RUMORS. The injury would be real, the residual weakness/pain undeniable. The fact that JJ does not want to lose leg strength and is skating is a great sign the injury will be short-term only…
Here’s to hoping I’m right!
[Reply]
Yeah Rich, I was also hoping you would ask the friendly fire question. Not only friendly, but late too :D
[Reply]
I’ve never really been a big fan of his, but when he got injured, ” Son of a itch!!” was the first thing to come out of my mouth. So I don’t know if he’s growing on me or I just like the way the entire team is playing together now. But I’ve never had that reaction towards him before, kinda of interesting.
[Reply]
“But I’ve never had that reaction towards him before.”
Hahahahah! That’s the first sign of falling in love. Sooooo cute!

B…
thanks for the hypothesis and explanation of what to expect if yr analysis is correct…
i want to throw a question out to all y’all…:
putting aside his talent and potential…
does anybody have a fair, unbiased (if possible) take on jj the person…?
sure…i’ve read about him from rich (thank you!) and other sites/magazines, etc…
i’ve been to a few kings functions and seen him around, always smiling like frolov (who w/their helmets on, sometimes makes me do a double-take…facially)…
he seems like everybody else…
but…y’know…we have a kid named drew doughty that gets alll the attention on the blueline…and it’s nothing but positive…”future norris winner” get attributed to dewey…but not jj…
jj is supposed to be better and a bigger name than dewey at this point…in fact, jj was projected to be a better prospect at the time of his draft than drew…
so much is happening with the kings and we are so young…you look at what happened the other day with kane, versteeg and madden and yr thankfully glad that stuff hasn’t happened to our youngsters (sans madden)…
but i have to wonder out loud whether or not jj’s holding up psychologically…this could be a tough time for him with all that’s happened and all that’s going on…controversy seems to follow jj…maybe he brings it on himself…maybe he doesn’t…maybe some is due in part to jj sr….i don’t know…
i hope yr right, too, B…i hope yr right…!

Hey Waves-
I think I’m more a of “groupie.” You know like free love and everybody’s invited kinda deal…. I think there’s words for that, but we’ll leave it right there. LOL

DuckHunter,
It’s not the JJ is growing on you. It’s because the thought of Randy Jones taking his place is down right frightening.

Whatever floats your duck…uh, I mean boat! To each duck his own!

kingme00:
Yah.
RJ is NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT Quincey!
But, he does have a monster shot, when he gets the chance…
[Reply]
Despite astronomical success and more money than he can spend, JJ is still only 23 years old. He’s a very young man, and no matter what, every young man must learn to be a man (or at least try). But the guy has every advantage possible so I’m sure he’ll be just fine. As for getting inside his head, no thanks. Pure speculation anyway. Besides, I’m sure his mental state is that of a Buddhist monk compared to Tiger. Now there’s a psychological study for you!

WAVES…
i know yr sere not insinuating the following…so hear me out…
i wasn’t trying to be tmz intrusive…i don’t want to know that crap…
we all have a proclivity or two that might make someone else…or even yrself…blush…whatever…
but i do wonder how these kids in men’s bodies handle it when things are not so rosy…
sure…take it out on the opponent…cliche, cliche…
jj appears to be a good kid..and i just wanted to know whether or not anyone had similar observations as i did when seeing him off the ice…
[Reply]
“were not insinuating”…
proofreading, v, proofreading…(!)
[Reply]
The rare time someone from the Kings retaliates, he takes out his own guy, as well. Geez. I wouldn’t rule out a fractured arm.
[Reply]
JJ will be solid, and maybe, a top defensemen when he gets enough experience.
he is only 23. he is learning on the job. most d-men take 4-5 years to hit their stride. SOD wasn’t the d-man at 23 he is now, or Blake, or Phil Boucher, etc.
those in the Village who are down on him, will regret if he’s playing for someone else and he hits his potential after reaching the top of the learning curve.
people chased Larry Murphy out of town, and he won, i think 2 cups, and good enough for Detroit and eventuall the Hall.
[Reply]
ABIRDIE SAID…
so much irony in yr post…maybe you should re-read it…(!)
[Reply]
@ Deelo — I was thinking the same thing. Practice seems to mean nothing to the man. That may be indicative of other discussions regarding JJ. Or, maybe it’s a cheap shot, and I’ll apologize in advance if so.
@ variable — JJ was definitely on my short list of potential expendables who’d be worth something to someone. Good open questions, too. From whence comes all the controversy? From JJ?
@ player x — You mean it might get more accurate now?
@ DB Cooper — The problem is, there seems to be some doubt whether he’s really willing to learn. I, for one, hope he is, and that he becomes a superstar for the Kings.
@ Abirdie — If you’re laughing and kidding, people can’t see the laughing on the web, so you need to be blunt about whether you’re ripping Bako or not. If you are, he deserves more respect.
[Reply]
@ Ken – I was totally making an Iverson joke about what he said. Nothing else should be read into it.
[Reply]
Sorry Deelo, the last bit was for Abirdie, not you, if that wasn’t clear. The bit about “cheap shot” was only for my own comments, as well.

KingHal
I’d laugh my butt off it Purcell hit anything!

it’s unbelievably ironic on soooo many levels…
- calling out one of the most respected posters
- it’s not like the advice or opinion B is giving is off-base or couldn’t be a logical scenario…
- he takes a stab of someone’s opinion about having an opinon…with an opinion of his own…which is far greater in value than B’s opinion…because ABIRDE’s opinion is that…:
“It’s the low arm on the stick, which is the hyper extended arm when he shoots – that’s why he’s not shooting. Goodness! Easy peasy. He won’t miss a game – but if TM keeps him out, it will only be for ONE.”
well…so glad a first-time poster (i’m guessing) corrected B…which is pretty much what was already stated…?
you spin me right round, baby, right round…
it’s all about spin…i guess…

I had Craig Johnson/Adam Deadmarsh flashbacks only it’s nowhere near as serious.

One thing to note that someone mentioned.. over the last few years DD has played a lot more games than JJ at the elite level. Due to injuries, and the college schedule being shorter, I did a quick comparison. DD has played in 352 games (not including world Jrs.) and JJ has been in 246.
I know JJ is older, but 100 games is a lot of development that is missing. I think JJ is going to a damn good Dman, and some games he shows it… but I think we probably won’t see consistency until next year
[Reply]
Keenan nailed it. This is comparing apples to oranges. DD is those once in a blue moon type guys. JJ will be an elite defenseman, but it won’t come as easily as it does for DD. Add to that I think DD has had far more grooming as a true defenseman than JJ has. Directly comparing the two is sort of like asking why every center from Brantford isn’t Wayne Gretzky.
[Reply]
Met JJ at Tip a King. Wanted to take a picture with him in the penalty box, and asked him to pout with me. He did, only my friend took a really blurry picture. About $15 later, he was still pouting with me and very nice. I do like Jack more than RJ at this point–we need him in shoot outs and I love his shot too.
[Reply]
JJ is already a great D-man.Prone to a few mistakes probably, but well worth our investment in him. It’s a little unfair to compare him to someone else like DD unless you hold everyone else to the same standard.Their two totally different players,on two totally different paths. If some young player outshines DD do you say DD isn’t developing properly.JJ is ahead of scedule. What DD does has no baring on JJ,and the same the other way.
[Reply]
JJ is a good D-man, crisp breakout passes, mostly stick to stick, i remember being at games (his first season) where it seemed like he was the only one who could make a pass out of our own zone :)
sides wasn’t he the one who said “they cant score if they are on their *** ” solid old school attitude.
[Reply]
Please don’t compare JJ to DD, because it’s not favorable. DD was better, all the way around, his first day on the ice, than JJ is now.
[Reply]
“JJ will be an elite defenseman, but it won’t come as easily as it does for DD.”
JJ might be a good defenseman, if he continues learning how to play defense.
[Reply]
…and where did all these sock-puppets no one’s ever seen come from all of a sudden?
