Ryan Smyth’s postgame thoughts…
(on the win…)
SMYTH: “It was nice. Quickie held us in there and gave us a chance. We sure weren’t ready, like we were against Toronto, but it’s a team game and Quickie pulled us through and Greenie got us an early lead. We capitalized on the power play, which is big in today’s game, and overall, after that we started to carry the momentum.”
(on Kopitar reaching the 100-goal level…)
SMYTH: “He’s an elite player, and for him to grab a hold of 100 goals is awesome. And counting. It’s nice to see. Obviously he works hard, not only offensively but defensively, and he’s a well-rounded hockey player.”
(on the winning streak…)
SMYTH: “We know how important it is, playing on the road, and obviously how the standings are. It’s important to keep climbing. We’re playing disciplined and we’re playing with structure, and I think that’s leading to wins. We’ve just got to make sure we can continue that.”
Hmm…really good teams are going to catch you with your pants down, if you keep that up, especially if Quick doesn’t stand on his head.

Wtkf or they can play like the other 50 minutes of the game and continue to win these games.

Yeah, I’d prefer they play well for 60 minutes.

I also am concerned about the way the Kings start sometimes, but as the saying goes … “Its not how you start, but how you finish.”

At the beginning of the season, the second period seemed to be trouble for them, and compared to the first, I think it has the potential to be much worse, with the benches so far away. Break a stick, have a bad change = big trouble. I think we’d all like to see 60 minutes, but being able to start and end well is good–particularly starting and ending each period well, and a strong second period can really “finish off” a lot of teams. Hope that makes sense.
