On second thought…

After today’s morning skate, Terry Murray said he had changed his mind and that Scott Parse would stay in the lineup, on the third line (with Frolov and Handzus) with Teddy Purcell as the healthy scratch. No lineup changes are expected. Today’s morning skate was optional. More from the skate to come…

I want to see Teddy in on Saturday.
If only for my own selfish reasons. Doubt that’ll be happening, though.

TM is playing some head games with these guys. Give him credit….He’s trying everything in his arsenal to get these guys going.

Parse plays one more game like he did in Toronto and he will be watching from the press box.

it’s only a matter of time before we start learning what color ties the coaches will be wearing behind the bench, and at some point the fans will cry if it’s supposed to be a blue tie day, and TM wears a red one. Lame.

    Good Call.

Parse has shown he can chip in with big goals now and then.
His game in Toronto was not very good, but that is expected from a rookie every once in a while.
But, alas, the bottom line is he can score and contribute sometimes while Teddy simply cannot. Results > Skill.

Much rather see Parse play over Purcell. Would also much rather see Purcell play over Ivanans.
Purcell-Moller-Segal lets us roll 4 lines that can potentially score, and still gives us enough grit with Segal.

Ivanans continues to be the only forward in the NHL to play at least 35 games this year and not record a single point. BRUTAL!

I watch the Center Ice package on a nightly basis and often will focus on other team’s 4th line. I have yet to see a team skate any player (goon or not) that compares to Ivanans’ granite hands, lack of shot, impatience with the puck, blindfold vision, or propensity to take ill-advised penalties. He may be a nice guy and work hard in practice, but leave him in the press box already TM.

All smartassness aside, yes the guy can pass real well. It’s something you’d think every NHL player can do, but Parse stands out to me.

Brought it up because someone posted results >skill in regards to the Parse playing over Purcell, however I think Parse has more skill as well.

  27. TB says:

    Purcell’s clock has run out…hopefully.

He might find some success like Moulson did (which BTW, Moulson has cooled off big time with the Isles), but it doesn’t justify keeping him on the Kings. If he isn’t going to succeed here, move on.

  28. TB says:

Baumgartner…no such thing as auditions in the NHL. As TM has consistently said…its about him putting the best lineup possible on the ice to get a win.

I asked Rich the same question in an open forum a long time ago about showcasing players for a trade by dressing them, and he shot it down real quick.

  29. Zach says:

I agree with AP I know TM wants Ivanans out there to fill the enforcer role, but it would be nice to see Purcell out there on the 4th line with Segal and Moller. I thought they player really well together and had much more speed and scoring ability then when Ivanans is out there. I can’t wait until next year when we can let Ivanans go and hopefully give Westgarth a shot.

Should be an easy decisions…Parse = 8-10-18 in 41 games; Purcell = 3-3-6 in 39 games. Parse is willing to go into the dirty areas and that’s why he’s almost tripled Teddy’s produection; Purcell dances around with the puck on the O-zone w/not much results.

  32. Cynic says:

Parse has a longer leash than Purcell, hands down. Yes, Parse is an excellent passer and showed it in the backhand pass to the slot right on Richie’s stick for the game winner in Detroit. He’s been very creative with the passing all year. Infact, that was the biggest surprise I got out of him since he’s joined the team.

I know Parse had a subpar game in Toronto. It happens once in a while. With TP, it seems to happen almost every game. Really, there’s a difference here IMHO.

Glad TM changed his mind. I wasn’t sure about Parse’s attitude until I saw the Kingscast interview with him at Tip-A-King. Short but sweet. Really seems to be more humble than I initially thought.

    Here’s a link to the interview (1:50 mark): http://kingscast.net/episode-38-tip-a-king-2010/

Ivanans plays so that Greene doesn’t get hurt in a fight again. Does it really matter if Ivanans plays 2:36 of a game? I’d rather seen one of other guys get double shifted once in a while than have Greene, OD, or Simmonds possibly get hurt fighting when Ivanans’ entire career is based on fighting for his teammates.

Just read Gann’s latest installment on his interview with DL, this one regarding Teddy’s current situation. I’ve liked DL ever since he joined the club. I think he’s the first Kings GM in many a year who’s had a coherent, well thought out plan for the future of the club, and he seems to be right on track in accomplishing those plans.

I’ve waxed and waned all year on Teddy’s play, but that interview really shed some new light on DL’s attitude toward him and what he expects.

You know, the more I listen to DL, the more I realize he knows a helluva lot more about hockey than I ever will, and that makes me trust his decisions regarding various players even more. His recent comments regarding Fro in that same interview really opened my eyes as to how a player is evaluated and how he may or may not fit into the grand scheme of things.

It’s been great fun, and frustrating at the same time, to watch this team grow over the past few seasons. Even with all the ups and downs, I can’t remember a season in the past 10 or 15 years that I’ve enjoyed watching more.

Parse’s exceptional passing skills has been the subject of many a comment on many a thread, so needn’t read them all…

His vision is exceptional and his ability to pass through the defense is really second to none on the team. I think sometimes he briefly dematerializes the puck in order to move it through solid objects (such as a leg).

Speaking of dematerializing (star trek reference coming) is your name a combo of Klingon + King Kong? :0

@ Baumgartner — Wouldn’t it be humorous if both Parse and Purcell worked into a Kovi trade–maybe along with JJ? Then people wouldn’t be able to compare them all the time–at least on this team. Really, though, I think it would be too early to give up on Parse.
