Drewiske update

Davis Drewiske, out since Dec. 4 with a shoulder injury, now has a target date for a return: Sunday. Terry Murray said today that he most likely wouldn’t play Drewiske in both of the back-to-back games — Saturday at Boston, Sunday at New Jersey — but that the latter game was a possibility. Drewiske has been skating/practicing for several weeks. Here’s what Murray said today about Drewiske’s status…

MURRAY: “It’s getting better. The plan, at the beginning of the trip, was that he would get in at the end. I don’t see it as a back-to-back. I don’t want to go that route. If I decide to put him in, it would probably be the game in New Jersey, and that’s been the plan from the very beginning.”

way rather have him over Randy Jones.

give O’D a rest, he’s up there in age now and with back to back games I think it would be best that he rest’s for 1 of them

OD is too valuable to rest IMO.

I don’t buy the “OD needs an rest occasionally” argument. He is an NHL player, if he isn’t conditioned to play every night, he should be

let the over valuing of drewiske continue.
    5th to 6th D-man at best.

I think Whiskey going in would depend on the outcome of these next couple of games. Harrold has been solid, and he even scored a HUGE goal. I can’t see the logic in taking him out, unless he has a really bad game.

Stop the Puck: IMO you should not judge the man based on 3 seconds of one game (weeks ago!). If your argument were sound than he should have rested the very next game, not now.

Do you want to pull out every single play where one of our guys is out hustled or out muscled and say that the player getting beat is too tired and needs to sit a game?

The last game the Toronto anouncers brought up an intresting stat about OD.The last 8 years the top deffensemen in +/- over that span,Lidstrom was first,OD was third.Right now we need every edge we can get.OD is playing great and should play as much as possible.

sd golfer, I actually believe Whiskey can be a 3 or 4, I think he has a huge upside and in his rookie season is a very very solid and dependable defenseman. I dont recall him ever getting rattled and he is a calm cool collected player. I hope to see him in a Kings uniform for a long time. Exactly the style player needed for the Kings. I look forward to his return. Of course, injury plays a big role in how much time he gets.

I like Wiskey. A good, heavy body. Not sure his offensive ability so he looks like maybe a more mobile OD? I like him but he’s a 4th guy for sure, no higher than that at this point.

  14. I’ll be very glad to have Drewiske back again. Shockingly, I hope he replaces OD on Sunday and not Harrold. Harrold has been playing remarkably well, so much so in fact he’s making me almost want to take back all the nasty things I’ve said about him over the last year. After Sunday, Harrold should sit again in favor of OD and Whiskey, but since its a back-to-back on Sunday, give OD a quick rest so he returns home with some real jump and reward Harrold with not being the first guy to sat when Drewiske returns for his solid play of late.

VanKingsFan, is right that one play can be taken out of context. Was OD forced to extend a shift past 90+ seconds, was there a D-man injury forcing OD to play extra minutes that game. Any evaluation like that has to be tracked over more than one game, definately more than one play.
I also see Harold as a solid 5th D-man size will always be his biggest liability. I don’t really like him as a forward, but it is nice to have a guy that doesn’t look out of place there if needed.

Who would he replace? I’d be upset if it is Harold. That guy has earned a spot IMHO. Harold is playing better than Dewiski was.

  19. Skebo says:

@KC23: Harrold sits and/or maybe OD gets a night off. Drewiske will not lose his spot to injury and I would have to say that Drewiske is the better defensemen and he has way more upside. Drewiske isn’t flashy, he just gets the job done. If he gets noticed, it’s because of something that he did wrong.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a post over-valuing DaviS, even by me, one of his biggest supporters. He’s solid, not great. He’s no better than a 4th D-man, and if he’s higher than that on a NHL team’s depth chart, that team has some serious holes on D.
