For those who can’t catch tonight’s game on TV, it appears as though the NHL is offering its GameCenter online streaming free tonight…
Also, if you need to catch up on yesterday’s news and notes, please check out my LAKings.com notebook…
And finally, spots are still available for the LAKingsInsider.com suite at the Feb. 11 Kings-Edmonton game. Frank — aka EASportsMgt — has put together a great page with all the info you’ll need…
I am sure the NHL did this just for the LA crowd.

Cool, thanks Rich! So frustrating that when the Kings venture north of the border a blackout descends.
[Reply]
This should help a lot of people that don’t have Center Ice….why a hockey fan DOESN’T have CI is beyond me!?!?! If you love the Kings enough to come to websites like this, there is no excuse IMHO.
I’ve had CI for years and I love it. Couldn’t imagine not having it. Ever since I had kids and had to give up my season seats, I’ve had CI.
Now if only Direct TV would settle their little “issue” with Versus BEFORE the playoffs start! That is going to effect me for sure…I’m still holding on to hope.
Once again Rich, thanks for the info! keep up the great work!

@Sancho, what is CI??? I’m so pddd not getting the gm still… aurggg
[Reply]
The game is sure to be blacked out for la viewers…
[Reply]
Sancho: I will tell you exactly why I don’t have CI even though I come to sites like this. Student debt and living in the most unaffordable housing market in the entire world (just announced).
[Reply]
Woo Hoo! I’ll definitely be tuning into this one. I got a feeling that our boys will rip T dot a new one!
Thanks for the heads up Rich.

Why are the games in canada not televised?
[Reply]
yeah they said that the last time ended up watching a message saying this game was blacked out…. thanks for the tip anyway.

Have 5 less pitchers of beer per month and you can afford it!

EASportsManagement -
Funny, I always thought you worked for the video game company…ha ha
[Reply]
Or fewer visits to the BCMP
[Reply]
Now if the game is not televised in LA, wouldn’t there not be a blackout?
[Reply]
tantrum4: I hope that wasn’t a serious suggestion… lets try and be realistic here.
[Reply]
Jayrew: See the comment above to tantrum lol

Kngcussion:
Just tested it/ the game will NOT be blacked out for L.A. viewers. This is likely because there is no home TV feed since the game is in Canada…
…And we all know a game in Canada is like a game in Afghanistan: much too far away to purchase TV rights.

Ok then, 10 less plates of the wings that go along with the beer?

Hey Rich, not to bring up an old story that you’ve already commented on, but it looks like at least 1 name on that Russian Olympic Taxi list Zubov was actually accurate if this site is to be believed:
http://rt.com/Top_News/2010-01-26/russia-hockey-zubov-scandal.html?fullstory
I can’t comment personally on the veracity of the quotes, claims, or even the site itself (though it was posted on KK earlier today), but this does lend a bit of credibility that perhaps Frolov might be on the Olympic team after all, yeah?
[Reply]
The NHL sent me an email specifically stating the Kings/Leafs game will be on the web. I’m hoping they wouldnt pull a major gaffe and have it blacked out here in LA.
[Reply]
Who’s staring in GOAL for both teams tonight?
[Reply]
Great news! I still am very curious as to why FSN is afraid to cross the border.
And Sancho, not everyone can afford Center Ice buddy. Doesnt make us any less of a Kings/NHL fan.
[Reply]
Right on Rich thanks for the heads up! I’m gonna try and watch the game if time permits. There’s a way I can record it or does anyone know if it will record the game automatically?
[Reply]
Fyzzix:
There is no “taxi” squad for this years olympics, all Russiand players are still technically eligible for the team. Teams are able to make changes at any point up until the Olympics being, and then no changes can be made, injuries or not.

Versus is still available, just get rid of Directv and go with DishNetwork. Price is about the same per month and I would bet if you told them you were dumping diretv they would make you a good deal.
[Reply]
Good lookin out Richie.
[Reply]
thank you VERY much rich. was already mapping out a game plan of calling various bars/restaurants, buffalo wild wings, etc., to see if the had the center ice packages. this saves me that hassel!!
[Reply]
Considering that link says “streaming game video of tonight’s OUT-OF-MARKET matchups”, does that mean the LA/OC are will be blacked out? I really hope not.
[Reply]
That is some fine quality streaming. Let’s hope they have enough bandwidth and their servers don’t start choking when the games start-up at 7 PM EST.
[Reply]
VanKingsFan-
Alright, well whatever they’re going to call it, perhaps Fro still might be going to Vancouver. That’s what I want to know.
Hrudey32, you should know better than to post that.
[Reply]
Sancho,
Some of us have CI and the games are still blacked out locally.I don’t think this one is,but it’s a crap shoot sometimes figuring which ones are.Sometimes you don’t find out till you turn the game on.There are times when I don’t have time to figure out wether its on or not and just take my chances. Thanks Rich for letting us know how to get the game just in case.I hope all the Networks, cable companies, and satilite companies can someday figure out how to better present the game to those who would like to see all the games, without having to pay for 2 or 3 different services.
[Reply]
I wish I could buy a discounted Centre Ice package or GameCentre package that only gave me all of the Kings games… not sure why they cant do this
[Reply]
CI should offer specifically tailored packages to certain markets.Say all Kings games,or all Flames, and so on.
[Reply]
If the Lakers can put their game in Toronto on KCAL, why can’t the Kings get Canadian trips broadcasted? I really think the Kings should look into an over-the-air solution to pick up games that aren’t being carried by FSN. Even the Ducks have KDOC to pick up some of their games. Perhaps KTLA or KCOP would be interested in carrying 5-10 games.
[Reply]
It really does seem like someone inside the franchise needs to dig deeper into the problem. Rich has asked the right questions, and “We [Fox] own the rights, but we think you deserve to see all the games in HD, and they’re not in HD” is of course asinine. Surely there’s a remedy, hopefully involving KCAL or something (I get them on Center Ice because I have to if I want to see the Kings more than once or twice a year.)
[Reply]
It’s internet stream, they cant use precise blackout techniques as with Terrestrial/Cable/IPTV distribution, they can say limit it to certain IP range eg USA or CANADA only, but not say, limit it to LA/SoCal area or similar … thank god for that
greets from Kopi’s homeland– GOOO KINGS !
[Reply]
@MajkLA: Actually MLBTV does limit by region, so it is possible. If your billing address is in the blacked out area, then you don’t get the game. There are ways around such IP address and zip code restrictions, of course. I don’t think Rich would want them discussed here though.
[Reply]
Fans are going to try and wach the game one way or another, so
they get NHL sponsers or some other pop up banner ads. It’s about time NHL. Thanks rich
[Reply]
That’s great news. THANKS RICH!!
I have Center Ice, but won’t be home in time to watch the game. Now I can watch at my desk.
[Reply]
I never said if you didn’t have CI you were not a Kings fan. Look I understand money issues; I have two kids, two car payments, insurance (home and car) , mortgage, the regular bills and lots and lots of other daily expenses. I just make sure that I get CI and make 4 payments.
I just budget my money so I can afford it. I’ve been a starving student, I’ve been laid off, I have had money troubles just like everyone else that’s human.
However having CI is a priority for ME. Nobody else in my family likes hockey or sports for that matter. CI is MY treat once a year to myself. I just make it happen.
GO KINGS!

IN CASE YOU HAVEN’T GOTTEN THERE YET OR FAIL TO, YOU WANT TO KNOW THAT THIS GAME WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE ONLINE IN THE LA AREA. THIS FROM A LATER BLOG ENTRY.
