  3. What's the frequency, Kenneth? says:

Doughty not only always knows what to do on the ice–he knows what to say. It was awesome of him to give props to Brownie, and I know when teammates read it, they’ll all appreciate it. Doughty was great, but Brownie really should have been the first star, and it’s good to see them showing the love.

John, Terry might go with Quickers on the back to back…Maybe start EE on Thursday?

It’d be really tough not to give Quicker the New Jersey game, but hope he has a chat with Ranford first. Something wasn’t quite right tonight.

That might not be a bad idea, Harry. Avant-garde, but may fit the current situation.

  7. Harry says:

Plus, Quickers CAN use the rest on Thursday, and be ready for the back to back situation. I think that makes sense…After all, he is our #1 guy in net!

nice win as expected against the leaFs.

The kings played with alot oF intensity, especially dustin brown.

im not worried about J.Quick he had a couple oF great saves.
The First goal that went by him i give him a pass.
    he’ll bounce back For sure.

brownie hopFully gets pumped up From this stellar night and continues his razzle dazzle.

this game showed what the kings can do iF, they have that intensity everygame I’m sure We would’nt complain.

continue with this momentum Go Kings Go.

You know – I think I’ve finally got it figured out. The Kings play a lot better when away from home ice. So, Deano, henceforth, the Kings wear the White sweaters at Staples. Who knows, they get all excited during a game, look up and see the Whites and figure, “Oh, Hell! We must be in Denver! Let’s kick their asses!” And then do. Yeah a little more work for the trainers and laundry staff – but Get ‘er Done Dean. White at home (like it SHOULD be).

    Hey Rich,

The guys on Rogers mentioned that Doughty was getting a $212,000 bonus for getting his 10th goal of the season. How common are performance based bonuses among the Kings? Are the terms public? If so, can you share?

    Just curious, thanks.

I didn’t get the link. It went to Murray’s post game quotes. But I have to admit that I didn’t read all of the comments. It might be my bad.

Are you going to the Feb 11th event? I’d still like to buy you a beer.

    [Reply]

  20. The test was because I posted some other links earlier in the thread that need moderation before posting. I just pulled a link from Rich’s site to see if the comment needed moderating because it contained a specific website or any website in general. I probably should have tested something other than Rich’s own blog…

I probably won’t be able to go to the suite on Feb. 11, but I definitely will be at the game in section 315 (season tickets)! Maybe someone can sneak me down between periods for a beer and/or a smoke or something… did I just say that? Of course not. Appreciate the thought either way!

just got home after work and watched a bit of video…

I actually saw Doughty’s goal just before leaving for work – AWESOME BLAST!!!

In the little bit I saw before I had to leave you could see Brown was possessed tonight!

I could watch that Smyth goal over and over – what a great shot! And I love how “the oldtimer” raised his stick after scoring, lol, you don’t see that much anymore – AWESOME!!!

My take on Fro’s empty netter… I think he passed to Doughty because he wanted to help Drew have an even better stat night in front of his family and friends. And then Drew, in all his wisdom of some unknown origin for a “kid”, knowing Fro needs to get going a bit more, gave it right back to him… BOTH great gestures and plays!

GREAT GAME ALL, 2-points closer to our goal… :)

  22. goldielocks says:

So Kovi’s rumor is heating up again, huh. Personally, I really don’t want Fro to go. He does little things so well like Datsyuk once said “Frolov is the most under-rated player in NHL”. I don’t know how many of you guys noticed his play behind the Leafs goal. He lifted D-man’s stick up slightly and stripped the puck. It was lightning fast … really fast. I’m not sure he’s gonna make 30+ goal season again or not but he still is a dangerous player on the ice. If he leaves Kings, wherever it might be, he’s gonna give us a hard time and I’m gonna taste some bitterness about it for sure.

i think the effort put forth was’nt expected.

we’re all waiting/anticipating a spark to get the team on a roll.
was this- that- game to give the team a spark? well will find out.

i expected the kings to win, but L.a looked better because they played with intensity and fire.

So if the team can put an effort like tonight everygame we should be okay.

  27. Tom says:

    @uknojata…

The bonuses are included as part of a player’s contract, and as such are publicly available on the sites that show such things…and I would venture a guess that every single player has some sort of performance-based bonus written in…probably more so when one is on an entry-level deal like Drew’s.

That was probably the best game I ever saw Brown play.

On a side note, I have ONE extra ticket to the NJ game on Sunday, if anyone is interested. They are $56 seats, but cost is negotiable. E-mail me…laikaloco@aol.com…use Kings-Devils tix as subject line.

Thanx, Rich, for allowing me to do this…

    Hey Rich,

Can you find out what Brownie ate before the game last night. Wow, someone spiked his wheaties!

    [Reply]

  29. nykingfan says:

At this time of the year 2 points, no matter how we get them, is huge.
Brownie was incredible. That line played like a solid 1st line all night long. Stoll was great on both ends of the ice. He came back defensively and made a terrific play to break up a scoring chance. You could see when he got back in the defensive zone he looked around and picked up the man coming in late. That was the guy with the golden chance to score. What a smart play!
I thought he should have gotten one of the stars of the game..he was THAT good.

I didn’t think Quick was on top of his game, but when we needed the big save in the 3rd period, he was right there to make it. This game might not have helped his GAA, but he got the win and that’s all that matters.
The 2 short side top shelf goals, it seemed like he didn’t make himself big in goal. He had the same thing happen earlier in the year. It was correctable then, I’m sure it’s correctable now.
I still have complete confidence in his ability to get us wins.

The other player I was really disappointed in was Parse. I mentioned it on an earlier thread…I like the way he plays and I think he can be a serviceable NHL player, but the lazy bullshit backcheck he showed..I think it was during the 2nd period, was disgusting. It was a half hearted effort and that’s not going to cut it in this league. He deserved to have his ass nailed to the bench in the 3rd and Moller deserved to move up.
It makes you wonder…after he was basically sent down to Manchester earlier for some indifferent play, you would think it wouldn’t be repeated.
He can be a head-scratcher at times.

Hard to complain getting 4 out of 4 points on the road trip. 6 more points awaits us on this trip.
    Go Kings!

  30. Shorthanded says:

Just food for thought……….its odd but how many games now has J.Quick given up 3 goals?

It seems like that is the magic number for him.

    [Reply]

  31. Stop the Puck says:

well when we had 13 games before the olympic break scuderi said 8/9 wins out of 13 would be good.

we are 3-1… that projects to at least 9 wins! keep it up.

JQ plays until he loses….remember what happened last time he was benched on a winning streak on the road??

    [Reply]

  32. Carol Vadnais says:

Are you all insane? If you can give up Frolov and his expiring contract for Kovy you have to do it.

Do you all want to win a cup? We certainly leap to the elite of the conference with Kovy.

What’s the point of a first round exit or not making the playoffs versus the tremendous upside of Kovy.

My lone proviso: he must sign long-term before you trade for him.

  33. Rich Hammond says:

Jacob… That’s a blog software issue, I believe. Whenever there is more than one link in a comment, it gets held for moderation, because all the automated spam messages are filled with links. So it’s not about any specific site. A little annoying, but worth it in general.

  34. nykingfan says:

    Carol Vadnais

I understand it’s early, but you need to wake up from your dream.
Why would Waddell trade a superstar with an expiring contract for a good player with an expiring contract…then on top of that, let us negotiate a long term deal with him?
Exactly how does this benefit Atlanta?
Trades are made with the intention of benefitting both parties. That would be a trade equal to Babe Ruth to the Yankees for cash.

  35. fsd1 says:

Y’all STOP IT! I dont want kovy and his assnine contract requests, I dont like his attitude and dont want him in LA, I dont want to see JJ or Fro or the freaking farm club to go. I dont want one player taking up 20% of our payroll! Stay the course, Stay the course and let Kovy rot in Atlanta! I am sickened by the way people want to change this team even when they are being more succesful than we have been in years! Yea, Lets tear the team apart to “maybe” make them better by adding a great player with an attitude. Geeze!

  36. Barry's Mullet says:

Let me just say I’m not a big Moller fan not because of his heart or determination more to do with his size. Having said that, the line of Frolov / Zeus / Moller seemed dangerous every time they were on the ice last night.

If you think about it…you have two giants who can hold onto the puck in the corners while the little guy gets loose or cycles below finding the openings somehow makes sense. Maybe it was just Toronto and TM juggling lines but hopefully we see this line together again.

Parse is still inconsistent…some games he’s all over the puck and the next your not even sure he’s on the bench. He deserves to stay up with the team…can he center the 4th line?

    [Reply]

  37. DuckHunter says:

I forced myself to stay up till 1 to watch the game, and what’s the first thing that pops up?….you guessed it, the damn final score between L.A. and Toranto. Ain’t that a itch!!!!!!!

I watched the first two period anyway, and felt good with what I saw. I thought the boys played well. I was happy to see some actual skill shots go in. Both Doughty and JJ’s shots were great one timers and Smyth’s goal was outstanding. A few skill goals to go with our usual hard working dirty goals and this team will be a really tough to beat.

I really liked the announcers. The play-by-play guy mixed up the names a few times, but hell, he named the player every time someone touched the puck. I liked that. I also starting to blush with all the Doughty love, and for that matter, all the love in general about our boys. They are starting to to get the attention now. Good for them. On to the next glorious battle of victory.

I truly find it funny how much this Kovi crap has gotten. Why would you even consider contemplating the outrages asking prices for this guy? Don’t get me wrong he’s good, but come on. The biggest thing people haven’t even considered is the KHL factor. You give up players/prospects, multiple millions long term, and the guy still bolts for Russia, and the Kings are stuck holding the bag.

  40. Cristobal says:

    Duckhunter -

    Ha! LOL!
Isn’t it ridiculous that in this day and age ESPN and NHLNetwork (etc.) continue to have the scores scrolling across the bottom of the screen? I mean, if you’re showing the freaking replay of a game wouldn’t it make sense to NOT post the score of it, durring it?

These are the hoops I have become familiar with jumping through as a sports fan in the information age. ESPN, for some reAson, cannot figure out that international soccer scores SHOULD NOT be on the ticker as almost everyone is DVR’ing these days.

Really, it’s quite annoying. I mean, if you really want a score there’s really NO way you can’t find it. But, if you don’t want to know other scores ( or
The one of the replay you are watching) they make it almost impossible NOT to see it.
Not to mention, the ticker takes more of that precious screen.

Cheers, maybe we should start An email campaign.

  41. nykingfan says:

    Cristobal

    agree 100%
Nothing is more annoying than a constant bottom line scroll with scores….If they’re showing a tape delayed game, have a little consideration for those fans watching the game.
Simple yet so complicated for the powers to be!

  46. What's the frequency, Kenneth? says:

They weren’t “horrible” goals. Two were practically point blank, and one was tipped. Granted, you’d hope he’d stop a couple of those, but he did make some big saves.

  47. DuckHunter says:

    Cristobal-

LOL. I had to smile, I was too tired to get mad. I did find myself clapping as I read. It eases the pain a little, I guess, when our team is victorious.

It’s funny you mention the size of the scores. That’s really what I was laughing at. The scores had to be 6″ tall, covering a quarter of the screen. You couldn’t have missed them if you wanted too.

Yes, you would think they could/would remove the score of the game being played. Anyway, cheers

You never said anything about the Jr game. What did you think?

BTW, I’m liking your new found love for TM and some of the good things we’re doing. It’s nice to see isn’t it?
