BOOM! Another 2 points for the boys, Phoenix lost too, does that bring us to the 5th place?
[Reply]
Make sure that its nice and quiet with no zamboni going in the background when you get your quotes from Ron Wilson.
[Reply]
On to Columbus!
Fifth place!
[Reply]
Perfect night-we win, Phoenix loses, Nashville loses, and Ducks lose. Hey Moe, hey Larry!! Poifect!
[Reply]
I really enjoyed this broadcast. The camera coverages, the commercials, the sound fx… Fox could really take some lessons from the way they produce the game up there.
Also, I think Ivanans had one shift in the first period and that was about it.
Anyway, thanks Rich!
[Reply]
good good good
[Reply]
Lovin it, Sucks, Yotes and Preds lost. Quick wasnt as sharp as I would like, but great game by the kings as a whole.
ps-poor Richie was -3
[Reply]
Gustavson looks like a sumo trying to skate. See him try to get to teh bench for the extra skater?
[Reply]
Game isn’t over yet in Detroit… Wings up 4-3 with a minute left.
[Reply]
was cool chating well watching the game
[Reply]
PHX GOAL
PHX 3-4 DET
[Reply]
4th line had actually 3 shifts in the first. Moller moved up to the 3rd in the third. Parse, Segal and Ivan didnt see the ice in the third-I believe.
[Reply]
What’s the Trade off if Det Loses? They stay another 2 points behind us.
I Think I like that deal better.
[Reply]
i think that’s 11 of fro’s 12 goals as empty-netters…jk…well…maybe not…
brown was my first star…
drew second…
smytty had the gw and was +3…
great win…but need to sure up those momentary lapses of judgment…
i guess there’s always something to work on when you’ve achieved so little…
go kings go…!!!
[Reply]
a win is a win is a win. and that makes 3 in a row and in 5th now?
[Reply]
Offense bailed out Quick for once. Nice change of pace.
[Reply]
Damn! Phoenix ties it with 21.6 left!
[Reply]
umm, take that back, Detroit sux
[Reply]
Damn it! Yotes scored. 4-4.
[Reply]
uggg stupid phoenix
[Reply]
Oh shite, Yotes score 2 late and Jovo ties it up with 20 sec left.
[Reply]
Detroit, you are weak!
[Reply]
phx just tied it up. didn’t need a 3 point game here
[Reply]
score was a lot closer than the game was. Kings killed em.
[Reply]
Gaaaahhhhhh, the one time I WANT the Red Wings to hold a lead…
[Reply]
Damn Wings couldn’t hold on and they both get a point! UGGGG!
[Reply]
21 sec left … Kings does that alot tho. Hopefully, not anymore.
[Reply]
Really? That means a three point game!
DETROIT SUCKS!
[Reply]
cue rafter man…!
[Reply]
DAMN…. The Yotes tied it.
[Reply]
Detroit gave up two goals in the last minute?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
And, they thought only THEY could do that!
[Reply]
Mm… Yotes Lose in OT Would be what I want… Besides.. I don’t like 5th place, I’d really really not like to play Vancouver if playoffs were starting with that deal.
[Reply]
Bako? 3 point game?
[Reply]
Dont worry about Phx and Det. our destiny is in our hands. we just have to keep it going.
[Reply]
The Detroit air of invicibility just popped, like a balloon stretched bigger than Brian Burke’s ego…
[Reply]
DAMN YOU DETROIT!
[Reply]
F$%&ing Wings can’t even win right.
Great game for the Kings tonight. Solid effort from all skaters, and on a night when Quick wasn’t his best. Even Ivanans and Segal’s few shifts were effective, and I thought they really got the Kings going with their first shift when the Leafs came out firing. They got it in deep and kept them in their end for awhile.
Solid effort, now on to Columbus!
[Reply]
KoJ you have a point, but some help would be nice to get a good position in the playoffs.
[Reply]
Was that the Wunderkind in goal, Howard?
[Reply]
Nice win by the Kings, now Detroit I hate you, but come on, can’t you all hold a lead?
[Reply]
coach jimmy johnson + barney rubble’s father + john bunnell = brian burke…
[Reply]
Yotes win
[Reply]
Chicago has already scored on the Waterers…
chi 1-0 EDM
[Reply]
Thanks for nothing, Detroit.
[Reply]
Mesquite.. What do you determine as a Good spot?
IMO Spots don’t matter, it’s who you face.
Playoff were to start tomorrow, we’d do better against Colorado, than if we were in 5th and playing Vanc, they’d stomp us.
[Reply]
Will someone finally buy the Coyotes and move them to Antartica please? They are pests.
[Reply]
WOW.
No fifth place, but Detroit just ate the giant brown-paste flatulent burrito…
[Reply]
ugh detroit..never good for anything
[Reply]
Phoenix did not lose-6th, still.
Great game against the worst coached team I’ve seen in a while. Gotta love the Canadian commentators.
RI: See, 4 minutes. Kings rotated 3 lines.
What a rush by Brown, three twists to get the assist
[Reply]
holy crap. 1 win in the last 18 GAMES for the oilers!?!? oh man that is bad. poor sully and lubo.
[Reply]
Phoenix won 5-4 in overtime
[Reply]
Yotes win…Detroit is terrible
[Reply]
how does tippet NOT win the jack adams at this point…?!
[Reply]
playing a team that we have not had a hard time beating this season. We still haven’t seen Colorado yet, but at this moment we are in 6th spot, scheduled to face Colorado should this season have ended now. But let’s try for one of the top 4 spots to have home ice in the first round.
[Reply]
its ok i would rather have PHX get the points they are not going to stay. i said it earlier but bryz just isnt this good, and “scoring by committee” doesnt work (see nashville), even if you do squeak into the playoffs. detroit always will scare me though. it just suks that this was a 3 pt game
[Reply]
Very few penalties. Maybe the thought of Raitis kept the thugs off our back.
[Reply]
Variable i am with you.. he deserves an Adams bid.
[Reply]
Kopi was begging Fro for the empty netter
[Reply]
Mesquite:
…And it’s over the halfway point, and we still haven’t played Colorado yet!
[Reply]
That’s the 4th consecutive game that Detroit blew a 2 goal lead; you can imagine the Det. comment boards right about now
[Reply]
That loss is going to affect the Detroit goalie.
[Reply]
Better not have home ice in first round, Kings are better away from home
[Reply]
a PHX or COL matchup in the first round would be ideal. would HATE to see VAN. i am serious when I say they are the only western conference team that i am worried the kings cant win a series against
[Reply]
Detroit chokes and even gets a point for it! DAMN I hate the winged bicycle tire!
[Reply]
“how does tippet NOT win the jack adams at this point…?!”
if the kings finish ahead of them, it goes to murray in my book.
[Reply]
Fair enough.. Haven’t played the Avs yet so Can’t say anything about that.. something in my mind said we did but I’m dumb apparently…
[Reply]
even when Brown isnt putting up #s, the guy brings so much to the table when he is on his game. Memo!! to Smyth, keep shooting from furthur out. a game they should have won and they did Nicee!!!!!
totally agree 501, every team in the league should use the Leafs camera work, nice tight shots. i have said this for years, where are the Ducks/Sharks cameras shooting from the roof sheesh!!
the hip check has become such a lost art, the refs dont even know when they see one anymore. the White hip check was text book. Ian White is one of my fav players in the league, a under sized guy, who year after year has to prove himself and he just gets better. i bet more then a few teams would wanna add him for a playoff push.
[Reply]
Kings have a game in hand on phoenix
[Reply]
AK47 wrote;”Phoenix lost too, does that bring us to the 5th place?”
AK47…it’s a good thing you don’t work for the newspapers or network tv…
“”Dewey Defeats Truman!!!!” “
[Reply]
Now I hate Detroit even more than I did before. They’ve never given us a cheap guaranteed point in the last couple of minutes of a game. Although I will always charish the choke in the 2001 playoffs were we came back from 3-0 to win in the last 5 minutes in game 4(down 2-1 in the series), then swept’em.
Good Night for the Kings, Nashville and Ducks loss in regulation. Phoenix should have lost in regulation, but got 2 pts and Detroit gets the OT Loser pt. In the end though it may be more important that Det. losses the point. Phoenix is paper thin one or two injuries and they will fall.
[Reply]
A win we had to have, good job boys! For those who missed the game, set your DVR for 0100 tonight on the NHL Network for a full replay
[Reply]
“you can imagine the Det. comment boards right about now”
well since you asked… this one is hot off the presses: “Brad Stuart sucks.”
oh, and we think we got a lot of comments over here? that blog opened up an overflow thread after logging over 800 comments!!!
[Reply]
Couldn’t get the kings game so i watched the broken wings and yotes play. Reminded me of some of the memorable king comebacks of yore. Howard did what he could the coyotes just overwhelmed them. Man would have loved to be tied with pho at this point. It was a good game to watch tho.
[Reply]
Steve McQueen:
I wrote it, too!
[Reply]
Just what we needed–both wings and yotes are getting points
[Reply]
It should have been a lot more comfortable.
Also noticed Parse not getting any ice time late…not surprised..he had one really lazy back check. They showed the replay of it. Talk about a half ass effort!
I don’t get him sometimes. He’s certainly good enough. It just seems like the effort lacks at times. Can’t do that and remain in the NHL.
[Reply]
Here’s another gem from the wings board: “I hate the Coyotes. I hope that NHL-owned team crashes in the desert and they all have to eat their own hockey gloves to survive.” hahahahaha
[Reply]
WAVES…
i still might give an edge to tippy…just because of how and when he took over the team – the week of the season…
taking nothing away from tm…but i think under the circumstances, tippy has an edge…
[Reply]
Wow, are you kidding me. Detroit effin sucks big time. Yotes won it in OT holly crap lol.
Great win for the kings though. Enjoyed watching every minute of the game =]
[Reply]
Gonna be a hell of a finish this year. Fun stuff.
[Reply]
yeah, i agree v. we’d have to finish i’d say 10 points ahead of them for tm to get it. that’s tippy’s handicap.
[Reply]
TM will win it when the Kings win the Cup in 2010-2011 or 2011-2012…
[Reply]
man, the quotes on that blog are frickin hilarious. this is the last one… “Lidstrom has two goals and they pissed it away like weak beer through a frat boy.” too good, man too good. ok, i’ll stop. (side hurting)
[Reply]
Checked the Wings board b7 and yes, they are having a meltdown! Interesting parallels to us though. Howard is their Purcell, they want the experiment to end and Stuart is their JJ. And their top players are old and washed up now. So, we get another Kings win tonight and a Detroit fan meltdown! Can it get any better?
[Reply]
Stop the Puck,
The Playoff are a different animal altogether. If this team continues to develop I like our chances, and for all those asking for Kovi, I think we would be better off seeking a trade for Jussi Jokinen (1.7mil per year until 2011 15G & 22A)or Ray Whitney (16G & 23A). These players are both better 2 way players and likely to fit into the system and will require less in trade value and cap space. I say we give Frolov one last chance to sign for 4 mil/year or less if not move him (draft pick(s), or Hickey maybe Williams) for Jokinen and/or Whitney. Fro you need to sign before the deadline you know how DL thinks.
[Reply]
detroit falling apart…?
well…y’know…i would never count them out…even if they needed 10 pts. in five games to make the playoffs…when they get healthy…and i guess that would be the biggest ?…when…(is it in time…?)…i can’t imagine them not in it…
but it’s good to see how the mighty are queasy…at least, for now…
[Reply]
It feels good to be a Kings fan these days, finally.
[Reply]
waveinair,
Thank you, now my night is complete. lol
Its a good night to back the Kings!
[Reply]
Looks like most comments are on the mark. The Kings’ Road is through Denver.
[Reply]
Just spent 30 minutes reading the PHX-DET game threads on http://www.kuklaskorner.com and http://www.wingingitinmotown.com... and then reading the LA-DET game threads. Totally worth my time.
[Reply]
If the Kings take care of their own business they will be fine. I guess a lot of us do not have confidence in the Kings. I do not have the time or energy to worry about the other teams in the league.
[Reply]
Who cares who we’d play, just make the postseason!
I’d have to say Tippet is coach of the year at this point. TM would seriously have to balance us out a bit better — like stop skating a slow, weak-defensively fourth line.
Detroit are struggling, but like Variable said, they have key injuries. So let’s hope they fall too far to be able to catch us.
I love Fro, but he should be happy with Zus type money. 4 mil.
[Reply]
Has Dino been offering 4 mil to Fro? I haven’t seen that anywhere, but is it so?
Our fate is in our hands. We’re gonna have to be beaten out of the playoffs.
I just want us to stay healthy and play our best. And — please, God! — no more eleven straight losses at the end of the season.
[Reply]
I don’t want to rain on the parade, but here goes…
First off, it’s great to go into Toronto and leave no doubt in anyone’s mind who deserved to win this game, and it is indeed good to see a positive offensive effort bolster the score on a night when Quick seemed to have plenty of trouble.
Now that it’s out…The Leafs played like crap, and the Kings are better than they played. The Leafs gave them primo opportunities to put the game away in the 2nd period, and I thought the game kinda got away from them. It should have been 7-1 or something like that, after the 2nd period, but I think the Kings ended up having to play more defense in their zone than they should. The good news is that they played a tremendous third period–exactly what the second half of the second period should have been like. The first? Glad they got out of it 1-1. Suffice it to say, they’re going to have to bring it to Columbus Thursday, because they’re not going to win playing that loose.
On the up side, Doughty and Brownie were awesome. They’re the kind of guys who will find a new level in the playoffs. I also felt kinda bad for their goaltender–the poor guy ate a ton of rubber because that defense is BAD.
Kessell? ffftt!
[Reply]
Oh, yeah…the power play. Glad they finally scored a couple goals on it, but the Leafs penalty kill is horrible! I was happy to see the Kings moving their feet without the puck, though…I think it makes all the difference for this team (killers aren’t going to make any mistakes unless they have to move.)
[Reply]
Cristobal
Both Fro and Zeus make 4 this year.
The Leafs have real problems this year but I am not sure how may out there are watching the ‘Hawks Oil game. Edmonton has officially given up I think. It is very sad to watch. I usually do not feel sorry for other teams but I do pity them; I guess because Vis was a favorite.
Oh wait…they just scored…let me switch windows again…if any team ever lacks for scoring, just turn your attention for a minute!!
[Reply]
We just beat a team that has 2 4th lines and 5 2nd 3rd line players and 1 1st line player. also we beat a team that was missing their best defensive defenceman… we beat one of the worst teams in the league where out #1 goalie played horrible.
Yes we scored 5 goals but…this was not very good.
[Reply]
You said it, JT. They played well enough to win, capitalized offensively, but could have played better all the way around. The third period was the disciplined period.
I’ll take the win, but I’ll guarantee you they need more discipline Thursday.
[Reply]
IT and Kenny –
Toronto is Avery young team, but does have some talent. Kulemin, for instance. Maybe we played down to them a bit, but maybe that’s not a bad thing. I haven’t seen this one yet, but maybe we lacked focus at a few key times — goals against followed. But was it also a case where our guys played looser (a good and bad thing) because from radio (and the comments on here) certain players played the way we remember them playing — namely Brown. Now, I’ve often been critical of TM, but here is one reason why; I’ve seen many players regress and lose confidence under Murray. Ultimately, if it’s just a learning curve thing where these guys are learning to round out there games and become great 2 way players? — fine; but if a permanent mailaise sets in? — Not fine.
In the end, it’s a game and these guys should be having fun. Not to say that they shouldn’t be working hard — but if you look at the great athletes they all had a great time being great.
In the end, I just hope these guys become some of the leagues finest. I know they have it in them — I’ve seen it.
I’m rambling…
Just remember when the Kings played great with Palffy and would go to Columbus (early 2000′s Columbus) and lay a stinker.
Be Content, my friends.
[Reply]
They were pretty loose, until the 3rd period, in which they played a fairly tight game. They need to carry that third period attitude into Columbus.
[Reply]
I get the feeling that when we make the playoffs Fro is gonna earn his money/contract. I hope he tears it up. Oh yeah good game from what I heard on the radio.
@ Copper thanks for the tip, I set my DVR.
[Reply]
Kenneth,
Kessel? That would take abit. Even bad teams ask for way to much for a young player, and for whom ever typed Evengi Malkin was a free agent at the end of the year is wrong, he won’t be until the 2014-15 season. Forget Kovi he was a nice thought, but with the depth we have we should be looking at adding 25-30 goal character guys that play D as well. I would really like to add one more face off specialist as well. I would rather load up the team to have a scoring 4th line than get Kovi at 10 mil a year. Didn’t we learn from Jason Allison all the eggs in one basket equals rebuild. The only reason to add a guy like that is if it is the last piece to win the cup.
[Reply]
I just came from the Wings’ “official” site and reads their fans’ posts about the Coyote game.
My nerve! Those “fans” are MOST unforgiving.
[Reply]
Luc20Rules, I was attempting to express my lack of awe for Kessel.
