Today's notebook/watch party

Kings notebook (Jan. 23)

If you’re near Burbank, or the general area, there’s a Kings watch party at Barney’s Beanery starting at 4 p.m., with the Kings Ice Crew in attendance. I’ve lived in Southern California my whole life and never been there. How sad is that? Head over there and let me know how it is…

Finally, here are Terry Murray’s thoughts about the rematch with the Red Wings. The teams last met on Jan. 7, the game in which the Kings generated 52 shots on goal but lost 2-1.

MURRAY: “You know, we had quite a discussion about that one the next day, in the postgame review with the team. But that will be brought up, absolutely. I thought our game was pretty good there, and we have to bring that same kind of an attitude. I think what’s important, when you play a team that has the reputation of Detroit, is that you want to go out and play to win.

“I think the other side of it enters into the equation too often, as a player, when you’re kind of that underdog. You’re looking not to make mistakes; you’re looking not to lose the game. To me, there’s a big difference. You’re composed, you’re skating, you’re driving, you’re doing things with a lot of confidence, and on the other part of it, you’re sitting back on your heels and waiting to see how the game unfolds and letting it come to you. I don’t want to play that way here tonight.”

I live really close to Barney’s…

I think the overall theme for the Kings should be “opportunity”. There are still a lot of games left in the season, but today’s game is a golden opportunity for the team to distance themselves from a waning, but always dangerous, hockey powerhouse. Getting that mental advantage can really help on this road trip, not to mention winning a “4-point” game.

i hate it when people look at me weird when i ask them to put the kings game on. they’ll have like 10 tvs all on the same espn channel or whatever, yet no one will change just one of them to the game for me.

The Barney’s Beanery in Burbank opened last year or maybe in 2008 so I’m sure it’s new to lots of us!

Well it is no longer a place that hates gay people, but you can always go there and relive the last meal before Janis Joplin’s fatal heroin overdose.
