After his nine-game absence, Teddy Purcell returned to the Kings’ lineup Thursday, played 11 minutes, 29 seconds, and had two shots on goal. Purcell started out on the fourth line but moved up to the third line later in the game, in place of Scott Parse. I asked Terry Murray today whether Purcell would stay in the lineup…
MURRAY: “I’m going to keep him in. Teddy showed enough there. He tried to do some good things with the puck. He turned it over, I know, a couple times because of a possession attitude, and wanting to do something right, but I’m going to keep him in here against a high-skilled team tomorrow.”
Somewhat strangely, even though Purcell’s power-play acumen was one of the stated reasons for his return to the lineup, Purcell did not get a power-play shift against Buffalo.
Rich any news on this JJ situation? I think it may be the most popular thread ever hahaha

If he’s in for Ivanans, that’s an upgrade.
If he’s in for Parse, that’s a downgrade.
[Reply]
Playing TP is less of a liability than having Ivanans in the lineup.

“But I’m going to keep him in here against a high-skilled team tomorrow.”
By that definition, Ivan should sit again. Hmmm…

I agree Purcell played decent enough to get another shot.Drago wouldn’t do us any good against a team like that.(that’s not a slight on Ivanans)

Forget the JJ stuff. I think they have moved on so I think we need to move on too. This is not a gossip blog but a hockey blog.

Guess there was no real reason TM sat Parse for Purcell last night. I figured Rich would ahve put that in here if TM had said something. Hopefully there’s no problem for TM with Scooter’s play. Guess we’ll see in Detroit.
[Reply]
Murray should go with the same lineup against Detroit.
[Reply]
I get the feeling TM does a lot of things on a hunch, and rationalizes if called on it. I’d say this is more an observation than criticism.
[Reply]
Cynic: I think the explanation was that he wanted them to play their natural positions. Teddy at RW and Parse at LW
[Reply]
I thought Purcell had a good game. Leaving him in vs. Detroit is a no-brainer. Ivanans can just fly ahead to the next city
[Reply]
Whatever happened to the idea of Richardson on PP? Like I said once before in an other thread, if Purcell is doing everything he is asked to do, it’s still only in practice. Meanwhile, Richardson is doing everything he was asked to do in real games.
[Reply]
It is a no brainer and should have been a no brainer against detroit and St. Louis last week also…

I thought Purcell played stronger on the puck last night than he has in the past and had some good passes to create some scoring opportunities. I think Teddy has improved since we saw him last time.
[Reply]
Oh well,
The 40 year rebuild continues.
[Reply]
Really? What does DL think of Parse’s college coach? Ooops, wrong thread.
[Reply]
TP improved? I’m not sure who you guys are watching. I see no improvement at all. He wasn’t moving his feet, did not see him crash the net (maybe once, when he took a shot) and couldn’t hold on to the puck. Granted he only played 11 minutes last night (thank god), but he sure did not make the most of them 11 minutes.
[Reply]
Well, knowing TM, it’s really no surprise that Purcell didn’t get any pp time.
[Reply]
I saw nothing special from TP last night—actually saw nothing, period. It was like any other game he’s played. I did notice the turnovers however those don’t seem to bother the coach too much. Let’s give him eternity to figure it out.

JayMiller,
Yes, it’s true. If you only want to see the negative plays, you’ll only notice the negative plays.
If you’d open your mind a bit, you would have seen Ted with a couple of decent scoring chances that he created for himself along with a couple of turnovers.
That’s why he moved up to the Zeus line later on in the game. Not because he caused couple of turnovers.

I thought Purcell played a fairly solid game. Got a couple “whoas” out of me on a few shifts with some nice passes- including 2 sweet backhand dishes (from “G’s Office”) on the same shift within about 6 seconds of one another. (granted- one shift does not 60 minutes make.) But Moller’s chance in particular was tasty. The late game scoring chance from the slot simply bounced over his stick- is that everyone is screaming was a flagrant turnover?
[Reply]
TP did as expected; Puck play off the board was slow, blowing two cycle chances. His defense was was fine.
[Reply]
Good points, I think I will definitely subscribe! I’ll go and read some more! What do you see the future of this being?
[Reply]
Teddy must have pics of Terry in a gimp outfit on Sunset Blvd. That’s the only reason he would continue giving this guy chances. Once again Teddy played his best hockey on the 4th line with Moller, so Terry decides to put him on the 3rd line (where he had his turnovers). I’m trying to find the logic in that decision.

please lets all give praise where praise is do.
scott parse deserves to be on the L.a kings and in the nHL.
TEDDY purcell is not NhL ready or able to play in game situations.
at least not yet; plain and simple
i dont want to have or watch teddy purcell play the way that he plays, he’s a hazard.
can we all come to an agreement on that?
[Reply]
parse over purcell is a nobrainer
the kind of decision that makes you say “Purcell, who?”
He’s a hazard like road blocks and spike strips on a freeway during rush hour traffic.
i dont understand what the heck they see in this player.
during practice he might be “gretzky” but during the games he’s
pepe la pew because he stinks it up.
[Reply]
purcell played pretty well i thought. he manufactured a couple of good chances for himself.
[Reply]
I say we save Purcell until we have a 5 on 3 power play, 30 seconds left in the game and the other team has its goalie pulled.
[Reply]
I want Williams to come back already =[

I counted TP’s turnover a couple of times too. It seemed he was trying to keep the puck with his techinic, not much of body contact or hard check. I guess what he was trying to do is stealing the puck but not battling for it. He’s got to show more passion or even anger in order to stay in NHL. Offensively, he showed some creativity though.

One turnover was on a horrible pass… badgoaltending… check your names stats this year and you will see a vastly bigger problem than TP
